Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Is Getting A Free Performance Upgrade On Switch 2

dres

@Jack_Goetz
@Mgalens

The Xenoblade Chronicles games had this dynamic resolution going on, so it could drop really low when there was to much going on for the Switch hardware to handle.

While it would be nice with some true enhanced versions of these games, I wonder if they would not automatically perform a lot better on the Switch 2 hardware?

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - dynamic 504p - 720p in docked, and 378p - 540p in handheld.

Maybe these game will never have to drop the resolution on Switch 2? And perhaps all Switch 1 games will run in docked mode all the time?

That could result in stable 720p resolution in handheld on Switch 2. We will see.how it turns out.

Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Is Getting A Free Performance Upgrade On Switch 2

dres

Great to here. Would have been fantastic if Nintendo had worked with third party developers on a free update to improve performance of the 100 most demanding Switch games for Switch 2.

That would have been a nice surprise at launch.

I wonder if some of these more demanding Switch 1 games would still benefit from the Switch 2 hardware regarding framerate dips, that we see in some titles, without any involvement from developers? Would they not automatically run a bit smoother than on Switch 1?

Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct?

dres

Overall an ok presentation.

I was quite disappointed that they did not announce more enhanced Switch 1 titles for Switch 2. Especially more third party titles.

I really hope we will see more Switch 1 titles get the enhanced treatment in the future. Keep them coming!

I need upgrades for DOOM, Mortal Kombat, Wolfenstein, The Witcher and so many more. I really hope that most developers will make it as a free patch for their games.

Re: Talking Point: After Three Months, What's Your Zelda: TOTK Completion Percentage?

dres

I am still at 50% in BOTW. Have not played that for two years. But I will get back to it and finish it some day. I still really like the game.

Eventually I will also get to play TOTK in the far future. Maybe the remastered version on the Switch 3? :-) I am looking forward to it actually, but I also know I will need to take a long break from Zelda after I have finished BOTW.

Currently I am busy with Baldur's Gate 3 on GeForce Now. What a game as well! But I also know that I will need a break from that at some point, and then I will return to BOTW and hopefully beat it!

Re: Talking Point: Should Sonic Frontiers Be Delayed? We Discuss Its Bizarre Debut And Fan Reaction

dres

So I am a big Sonic fan, but my expectations for this game has been very low since the first footage was revealed.

This is what I wrote back in December after they released the first video, and my opinion has not changed after what they have shown recently. But other Sonic fans was really after me for my negativity then. I just hope that I am wrong and they will be right and this game will be great.

This is what I wrote then:

"Way to realistic looking for a Sonic game. They already tried this with Sonic 06, and it was horrible.

For a Sonic game, this looks really empty and boring. Nothing is going on.

It's like the developers wanted to make a realistic looking open world game, and made these nice looking sceneries and locations. Then management just put Sonic in there.

This does not look and feel like a Sonic game. The esthetics are all off.

If a Mario game looked like this, people in here would go nuts. I do not know what SEGA was thinking?

It looks neat and clean, if it wasn't a Sonic game. Make another game then, and leave Sonic out of this!"

Re: Capcom's Next Street Fighter Game Won't Be A PlayStation Console Exclusive

dres

No SF6, No Tekken, No Soul Calibur. No Virtua Fighter.

You sometimes wonder if these japanese publishers are run by morons who just do not like money? Why skip the best selling console, and leave all the market and money to WB for Mortal Kombat?

And if MK11 could be ported to Switch and SF4 ported to 3DS, then all these games can also run on Switch with some minor downgrades. There are no excuses.

Re: Konami Terminating Super Bomberman R Online, Will Move Forward With "New Projects"

dres

@Serpenterror
Stadia and Google never said they wanted to be the Netflix of gaming. That was the general media that said that.

Stadia's problem has never been their business model, but only the lack of content on the service.

Stadia has a total free tier, were you need to buy every game. And then they have a subscription tier called Stadia Pro were you get access to a library of games and new games every month.

Stadia Pro is similar to Netlfix and GamePass, but it just doesn't offer enough of exiting content compared to GamePass. Content is the problem here.

GamePass does also not give you access to all the games on the Xbox Store. Not every publisher wants all their games to be part of a subscription service.

On Stadia you could get access to a lot of games with the Stadia Pro subscription, and then buy games were the publisher simply did not want to be part of a subscription. But Stadia Pro just didn't offer enough compared to GamePass.

Re: Konami Terminating Super Bomberman R Online, Will Move Forward With "New Projects"

dres

@link3710

You can't own a live service game anyway, so what is your point here?

These kind of games actually fits very well to a service like Stadia.

The game was free to play on Stadia. You only needed a Google account and then you could play it instantly everywhere you wanted, if you had decent internet. Witch is required for a live service online game anyway.

No waiting for download and install. Just click and play

Re: EA Reportedly Pursuing Sale Or Merger

dres

@ModdedInkling @GrailUK
Absolutely nonsense what you people are writing.

The FIFA licence does not matter at all. Sport fans just wants a good game and authenticity. And EA is keeping the licenses of the clubs and the players, witch is the important part here.

The reason that FIFA legacy is still selling fine on the Switch, is not because of the FIFA brand, because then people would just have kept to the first version on Switch. It is only the updated data on players and clubs that changes every year that matters to people, and why they buy this crap again and again. EA will still be doing that in the future.

Yes. Sales will take a little hit the first year, but after that people will recognize that FIFA has become EA Sports FC. "EA Sports" as a brand is strong as well among football fans

The future original licenced games from FIFA will become some mobile crap that some people will buy in the beginning, and then realize it is not what they were expecting. Then they will find out about EA Sports FC.

History has shown, that it is the game that matters. Not the brand.

Come back in two years. I will be right about this, and you will be absolutely wrong. EA Sports FC will still be the biggest and best selling football game on the planet.

Re: FIFA Will Work With Other Developers To Launch Brand New Football Games

dres

@nocdaes

I think EA secured all the licenses for players and club football through FIFPro? And that deal hasn't changes, as far as I am aware of? But EA will not be able to make any World Cup special mode or editions anymore.

So the new EA Sports FC games should not be much different from previous FIFA games, except the branding on the box. And if that is the case, then EA will be doing just fine. They do not need the FIFA license at all.

FIFA on the other hand, greedy and arrogant as they are, really do not have a strong position now. They will loose a lot of brand recognition over this in the future, and I do not think their football game will be any good. But let's see. Competition is not a bad thing at all.

Re: FIFA Will Work With Other Developers To Launch Brand New Football Games

dres

Very arrogant statement from FIFA. They really think they were responsible for the success of the game series. It shows exactly why EA had to split with them.

For once I am totally on EA's side here, as the slightly lesser evil organization / cooperation.

Regarding computer sports titles, the game always wins over the branding. History has shown that again and again.

Does anyone still play Championship manager these days, or is this brand totally dead?

FIFA will have a hard time, finding a decent developer for their games, that is also willing to pay that license fee EA declined.

If EA was to loose the license for all the clubs and player names, they would be in more trouble. But they do not. The FIFA brand itself is of lesser value than that.

Re: Review: Dark Deity - A Shameless But Satisfying Fire Emblem 'Homage'

dres

@PharoneTheGnome

I would rather see a Warhammer Fantasy or similar universe / time period in these tactical games.

While still utilizing those western heigh fantasy races and style, old unreliable muskets, cannons mixed with magic and steam punk like devices, would make a really interesting tactical setting.

I find the Warhammer Total War games very exciting because of all these options. Only having access to bows, crossbows and catapults in these kind of games is a bit boring.

The exelelent game Wargroove had Muskets Units, witch was great. But I would have liked to see even more units of this type.

Re: PSA: Remember To Update Your Joy-Con, As Well As Your Nintendo Switch

dres

Without a system notification, most people are probably running around with outdated Joy-con firmware. Many will not even know what a Joy-con updates is.

A fraction of Switch users are following sites like NL and gets some info about this. But Nintendo is not doing much to spread this information. It almost seems like they do not really care about this.

It would be interesting to see some statistics about how many Switch users actually do have the latest Joy-con firmware installed.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Sticks With Mario Kart 8 Through 2023, But What About Switch?

dres

I never really saw any need for MK9 in this generation.

The Wii U is close enough to the Switch regarding power and performance, and MK8 is almost the perfect Mario Kart game. A MK9 on Switch hardware would probably be to similar and not feel like a real generation jump ahead for the series.

Also, because MK8 is still hugely popular and sells really well, it just doesn't make sense for Nintendo to release MK9 yet.

By extending the life of MK8 with these DLC's, Nintendo has made the right decision, and is waiting with MK9 for a new stronger console, were they really can make the next generation of Mario Kart, and make it standout in comparison to MK8.

Re: That Mysterious Voice In The Sonic Frontiers Trailer? Turns Out It's A Familiar Friend

dres

@Fujimoto-San
I did not like the dragon fight at all. It was totally out of place. But it was at least a very small part of the game.

New Donk City wasn't my favorite either, but it still had some Mario element here and there. It worked ok in the end.

This Sonic trailer form SEGA, is the same as if Nintendo had only released the dragon fight parts for the first trailer of Mario Odyssey. People would have hated it.

I hope what Bizzyb is saying is true. And this is just a small part of the game.

Why do people get excited about this crap. Open boring and empty locations for Sonic to run around in? Sure, it looks neat and beautiful, and the graphics are very realistic. But it doesn't work for a Sonic game.

Re: Random: Xbox Celebrates The GameCube (And The Dreamcast!) On Their 20th Anniversary

dres

Ahh.. Dreamcast. The most magical console. I remember the time I saw the first advertising for it, and I just had to own it right away.

People do not realize how fantastic it was with 128bit graphics in a home console back in 1998. It was so ahead of it's time.

A pity that so few people gave it a chance, because of ridiculous hype that was surrounding the PS2 and it's "Emotion Engine". It turned out to be nothing special compared to the Dreamcast.

Re: Dotemu 'Apologise Unreservedly' As Streets Of Rage 4 DLC Is Unavailable On Switch

dres

@Znake

This could easily be Nintendo's fault and their slow review process. We do not know, but it's sounds like it from what the developer says.

Yes, you can probably make a better plan, but some things are not easily planned.

If Nintendo's review process is taking them longer than usual and as expected, what can you do as a developer? Should you wait with the release on all platforms or just say "screw you" Nintendo?

I would definitely not wait for Nintendo.
If it is Nintendo who are to slow, we should just blame them, when other industry rivals are much faster at this process.

Again, we should not blame anyone, until we actually know who are responsible for this delay. Your first comment is absolutely inappropriate, when you do not know what is actually going on.

The developer has in the past really put the Switch version of this game before other platforms. So I would not assume it's their fault, but of course I can't be sure about that.

Was that download error actually firmware related? Has that been confirmed?

I got the error without upgrading my firmware the last time, and the fix also did not require a new firmware download either, but was fixed server site.

My guess is, that it was more of a coincidence that this server bug at Nintendo happened at the same time of a new firmware rollout on the Switch?

Re: A Plague Tale: Requiem - Cloud Version Confirmed For Switch

dres

I love how cloud gaming is running on Stadia and GFN. Smooth and responsive like on local hardware. I am using these services a lot next to my Switch.

The cloud games on Switch is sadly not running as great. To much latency like on xCloud also. Hopefully it will get better.

Re: A Plague Tale: Requiem - Cloud Version Confirmed For Switch

dres

@Kreko
Do you know what cloud version means?
Every game, no matter how demanding, can be brought to Switch or any other platform over the cloud.

You are streaming the game, and is not really using the hardware of the switch to run the game. It's like watching a video on YouTube. Just needs good internet connection.

And currently I do not think that Sony is supporting third party cloud publishers like Nintendo does. Sony has their own cloud platform in PS-now. So that is probably why this cloud version of the game is not coming to PS4.

The day PS-Now gets PS5 support, and Sony brings the PS5 version of the game to the PS-Now service, the cloud game will also be available on PS4.

Re: PSA: Yes, Your DS And 3DS Cartridges Will Eventually Deteriorate, But Don't Panic

dres

And people keep telling me that I am a fool to trust cloud gaming.

Well, yes the services I use like Stadia or GFN can be shut down.

But my physical game collection will also not last forever. And with digital games, you are only buying a license for the game, that can be altered or be withdrawn afterwards. So what is really the difference here?

Game ownership is a illusion!

Re: Immortals Fenyx Rising's 'The Lost Gods' DLC Adds New Top-Down Gameplay, Out Today

dres

Fantastic Game. Best game that Ubisoft made for years, and one of the best games on Switch. People should really support this, so Ubisoft makes more of this.

These DLC's are small games on their own, with different settings and can be played independently without having played the main game. It's and interesting take on DLC.

Especially this new one here changes the game totally, from a Zelda like game to a more Diablo like game. I like these experiments, Ubisoft. Keep them coming.

Re: Random: Nintendo Has Uploaded Its Switch Online Trailer (Again), And It's Still Getting Disliked

dres

@Zeldafan79

As Ghost_of_Hasashi already said, the NES and SNES games are not cloud games that needs to be streamed. You download them and can play them all offline. They are local games just like all the games you buy digitally on the E-Shop.

Once a while you need to be online though, for Nintendo to check that you are still subscribing to their service. A license check. This is only required every 7 day or so, and if you are away from home for a long time and this happens, you just quickly connect to your Phone with WiFI hotspot to let the license check happen. Doesn't use much data at all and is no big deal.

This is how it works when you "rent" the games though a service. GamePass is working like that as well. It's all still all local games running on your hardware, that you need to download. But a license check is always required from time to time.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo 3DS Features That Should Really Be On Switch

dres

If all these interface features from 3DS or Wii U would have any affect on the speed, performance and smoothness of the Switch UI, then no thanks.

The interface of 3DS and Wii U is slow and bloated. I think Nintendo has learned that "Simple and fast" is a better way to go.

People should start to realize that all these features comes at a cost. If these features would be simple to implement, without adding to much overhead to the overall speed and performance of the interface, Nintendo would have done it already.

Re: PlayStation's Ken Kutaragi "Never" Considered Nintendo To Be A Competitor

After Nintendo turned Sony down, Sony went to SEGA of america. And they also almost made a deal about a console together. SEGA of Japan turned that down as well.

http://www.usgamer.net/articles/sega-and-sony-almost-teamed-up-on-a-console

So we could have had a Nintendo or SEGA PlayStation today? Who knows? At least SEGA would probably have had a big benefit of such a partnership.

After Sony got ditched by both Nintendo and SEGA, they went solo on the project. And it really turned out well for them.
