While the game itself looks alright, I agree with the previous comments that this homage is way too on the nose. Plus, Retroware is kinda shady considering their associations.
Both of them are good, but I'm going to have agree with the others on the European version. It's tightly composed and I find the emphasis on an adventurous tone a little more inviting.
However, I'll give credit to the NA/JP art for accurately communicating the hectic fights you get in with other wildlife.
"...I made many mistakes in how I handled the communication with the Kickstarter community..."
Hey Jools, habitually blocking people and backers on social media for merely asking about updates tells a different story than the misunderstood indie dev you're trying to portray yourself as.
@Poodlestargenerica Complaining about someone being rude after mocking people (who were reasonably upset over the way a game they helped fund was developed) seems a little hypocritical.
It's remarkable how dumb the management at Embracer Group is. Buying 20 game studios a year and expecting them all to recoup those costs was destined to blow up in their faces.
Of course, their solution is to lay off the devs, essentially negating the point of acquiring them in the first place.
@Guile @Shambo @BananaMetallurgica I also immensely enjoyed this game (as my profile picture suggests). It's one of my favorites from the 3DS library.
Nintendo did a great job of capturing the feeling of tactfully moving the submarines through hostile waters in the original game. Sub Wars also did an excellent translation of that gameplay into the first-person perspective. The addition of morse code and a traditional multiplayer mode, arguably, made it an even more immersive experience.
The first two games had solid gameplay but only passable campaign modes, which a hypothetical third game could flesh out into something more elaborate. It's one of the reasons I hope Nintendo will eventually make a sequel for Switch.
I remember reading the skeptics who said Switch was going to bomb when its reveal trailer dropped and, after the Wii U's failure, I couldn't help but believe the pessimism.
A horrendous logo/tagline combo makes this ones of the worst rebrands I have seen in recent memory.
The current Bandai Namco logo had a serviceable design with an appealing red-yellow mix. Of course, the solid red colors and distinct bold fonts of both companies pre-merger are just too iconic to overcome.
With this redesign, I wouldn't have made any connection to Bandai Namco had it not been for the name. It looks like some second-rate social media app. It lacks personality, it's needlessly streamlined, and fails to build upon or continue its predecessors in any way.
I bet this edition will look nice but I hope it does a bit more than just slap the Mario brand on Labyrinth, maybe like adding power-ups to spice up the gameplay.
It awesome that Bethesda and id Software are now one of the most consistent third-parties releasing their games on modern Nintendo consoles.
I missed out on series like Doom for many years and now that I gotten the chance to play them, it's become one of my favorite gaming franchises.
I often hear Quake generalized as "Doom in 3D", and that has me excited to try it out. Hopefully, Quake will be another game to join my list of favorites.
It's nice to see 3D Realms with a solid line-up of retro shooters. I kinda had the feeling that the aftermath of D.N. Forever had damaged them irreparably.
@Beatrice I know there's several answers to your question but I wanted to offer my perception of it.
From what I recall, it was seen as of the best 3D Sonic games post-Sonic '06.
Now that a decade or so has passed, it's game design has been reevaluated for the worse. Criticisms towards its level design and the Wisps are among them. Sonic Generations definitely reinforced some of these arguments for others.
The main aspect that most agree on was that the story was rather poor. It tried to dial back prior complaints of the franchise taking itself too seriously by going for a simple light-hearted plot with an abundance of comical moments.
People believe this part of the game aged the worse out of all other aspects of the game. They also note that this set the standards for future Sonic stories which resulted in blunders like Sonic Lost World so people also complain of its lasting legacy as well.

Re: Poll: Which Dormant Nintendo Franchise Would You Most Like To See Return?
@Stamina_Wheel I'm totally with you on Steel Diver. I am a big fan of the original and Sub Wars did such a fantastic job fleshing out the concept.
It would be a real shame if Nintendo lets Steel Diver die after they just started scratching the surface of the series' potential.
Re: Reminder: Today Is Your Last Chance To Redeem eShop Cards On Wii U And 3DS
@Thief Futuridium EP Deluxe, Race The Sun, XType Plus, The Fall, and Ballpoint Universe.
I was also interested in picking up Tengami. However, that game was removed from the eShop as well.
Re: Reminder: Today Is Your Last Chance To Redeem eShop Cards On Wii U And 3DS
I went to buy a bunch of games off the Wii U eShop last night and I found a good portion of them on my wishlist were delisted.
I hope Nintendo and other developers involved don't let the Switch eShop get struck with the same availability issue at the end of its life.

Re: Yacht Club Games To Share "Groundbreaking Announcement" In Upcoming Twitch Broadcast
I like to think that this mega announcement is some Nintendo collaboration like the Crypt Of The Necromancer devs did.
But a 16-bit styled Shovel Knight 2 would also be pretty cool too.
Re: Microsoft Buys Activision Blizzard, Now Owns Call Of Duty And Crash Bandicoot
There's at least one upside to this. Now Raven Software is free to make a new Heretic/Hexen game.
Re: A New Smash Bros. Would Need A Smaller Roster, Admits Sakurai
If the next Smash Bros. has all the fighters from Brawl, I wouldn't mind a roster reduction.
Less fighters can benefit the game by giving the developers more time to focus on other modes like Adventure or Online.
Re: Another Namco Title Has Joined Hamster's Arcade Archives On Switch
Just some Namco trivia. Phozon was made by the game designer of Super Pac-Man and Pac & Pal.
My understanding is that Toru Iwatani assigned him to work on these games as a kind of training exercise.
Iwatani would later call those Pac-Man titles as being boring but he was happy to give the designer experience in game development.
Re: Free Alternate Costumes Are Coming "Very Soon" To Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl
Spongebob's marching band outfit will make a great addition. I would even mod the audio files so Sweet Victory plays every time he wins.
Re: Pac-Man Museum+ Brings 14 Games In The Series To Switch
This is fantastic. I've been waiting for an official release of the Pac-Land arcade on Nintendo consoles for years.
It's also great that this compilation is bringing back the original Namco Museum experience with an arcade to walk around in.
I just hope we can get Pac-Man Championship Edition DX in a future D.L.C. or update. That will make this collection feel truly complete.
Re: Hamster Adds Another Namco Title To Arcade Archives On Nintendo Switch
I'm interested in playing this, mainly because Toru Iwatani once said that this is his favorite video game, even more than Pac-Man.
Re: Nintendo Talks About Its Future - Reconfirms Next Gaming System Is Coming In "20XX"
I hope the next console brings back a secondary screen in some way.
It can be called the Double Switch, or DS for short.
Re: PlatinumGames Delays Sol Cresta, Hideki Kamiya Says A December Launch Is "Not Possible"
Comments reciting Miyamoto's "delayed game" quote incoming.
Re: Review: Pikmin Bloom - Pokémon GO's Sister Title Is A Glorious, Glorified Pedometer
It's funny to think that a pedometer Pikmin game would turn out to be more entertaining than Hey Pikmin!
Re: Talking Point: Five Years On From The Frenzy Of 'NX' Becoming The Switch

Really glad that we were all wrong!
Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online Sega Genesis / Mega Drive Game Ranked
As others have already said, Shinobi 3 is absolutely amazing. It's easily my favorite Sega Genesis game of all time.
I wish Sega would make a new title for this generation but I guess they're too busy focusing on Sonic.
Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Final Fighter Is... Kingdom Hearts' Sora!
The mad lads did it. They somehow got Disney to give them the keys to Kingdom Hearts.
Re: Konami Competition Tasks Indie Devs With Reviving Its Classic IP
It almost appears that Konami is regretting burning the bridges with their past talent and are desperate to find replacements.

Re: Dying Light Platinum Edition Is Heading To Switch
Playing that Super Mario Bros. Easter egg will feel right at home on Switch.

Re: The Quake Remaster Is Out Now On Nintendo Switch
@OorWullie I'm not sure if Heretic or Hexen will ever come to modern consoles.
I heard the two series got tangled up in some legal predicament between Zenimax/id Software and Activision/Raven Software.
However, it's possible I suppose since Heretic and Hexen are somehow both available on GOG.
Re: Tomorrow's Pokémon Presents Will Be Pokémon's Longest Ever Direct-Style Showcase
I'm looking forward to seeing more of Pokemon Legends: Arceus. It's probably one of the most intriguing Pokemon games I've seen in recent times.
Re: Round Up: Realms Deep 2021 - Every Game Coming To Nintendo Switch
It's nice to see 3D Realms with a solid line-up of retro shooters. I kinda had the feeling that the aftermath of D.N. Forever had damaged them irreparably.
Here's to a new golden age for the company.
Re: Tetris Effect: Connected Is Dropping Onto Nintendo Switch Soon
Similar to the the Tetris Effect, there's the Switch Effect where you dream about your favorite games coming to Nintendo Switch.
This game was among the most recurring dreams I had.
Re: Sega Extends Jakks Pacific Partnership For More Classic And Modern Sonic Merch
@YoshiAngemon Sorry, I got them mixed up. I also heard people call him Silver Sonic but I think that's a fan nickname.
Re: Sega Extends Jakks Pacific Partnership For More Classic And Modern Sonic Merch
A Mecha-Sonic toy in the current age? That's pretty neat considering Metal Sonic served as its replacement.
Re: Memory Pak: The First Time I Saw The Rocket In Tetris
A few years ago, I used habitually play the NES version which featured a victory screen past the rocket shuttle.
It had a amusing fake out where you see U.F.O. on the launchpad but, instead, St. Basil's Cathedral takes off into space.
Re: Netflix Teases Fourth Season Return Of Castlevania Animated Series
I wonder how this series is going to move forward without Ellis.
He deserves to leave but it's probably going to be hard to find a new writer whose scripts can be reconciled with his.

Re: Rumour: Neopets Could Be Coming To Switch
It's kinda ironic that these things are called "NeoPets" as most people nowadays seem think of them as a relic of the early 2000s.
Re: Gallery: Every PAC-MAN 99 DLC Theme - All 29 Custom Skins For PAC-MAN 99
Surprised no one mentioned that the Brick and Frame themes are based upon the Block Town and Pac-Man's Park mazes from Pac-Mania.
The Colorful theme is also the maze from Pac-Man Arrangement.
Re: PAC-MAN 99 Announced Exclusively For Nintendo Switch Online
@Slowdive Right? Pac-Man 40th anniversary was pretty underwhelming.
The best thing we got was the Pac-Man Championship Edition demake and that was based upon a ROM hack from a decade ago.
Re: No Joke, PlatinumGames Is Releasing Sol Cresta On The Nintendo Switch
It seems Japan loves pulling a kind of April Fools joke where they present something as a mock up and reveal it's real later on.
Example: the April Fools trailer for The Ring/Ju-on crossover.
Re: Review: Balan Wonderworld - A Charmless, Confusing Fossil From The Creators Of Sonic
I can't help but feel that the "What were they thinking?" line was an AVGN reference.
Re: Random: 'DJ Pikachu' Is Now A Thing, And He's Just Released A Remix Of Classic Pokémon Tunes
He's the DJ Yella of the Pokemon universe.
Re: DOOM Eternal's Part Two DLC Will Be Unveiled Later This Week, Teaser Trailer Goes Live
@RiasGremory Maybe once they're done with all of the DLC packs, they could release a bundle edition or something like that later on.
Re: Review: Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time - Better Late Than Never

Re: Review: Apex Legends - A Great Game Hamstrung By A Compromised Switch Port

Re: We Might See A Female Slayer In A Future DOOM Game
Just as long this hypothetical character isn't physically objectified, I'll be down for it.
Re: Controversial Rising Sun Design Removed From Street Fighter II's Re-Release
@BloodNinja The secret levels are full of Nazi soldiers from Wolfenstein 3D. I think the joke is that it's only natural for them to end up in Hell.
There's a secret exit in Map 15 that will take you to one of them.
Re: Controversial Rising Sun Design Removed From Street Fighter II's Re-Release
Not really a big deal. In fact, it's for the best.
The Doom II port on Switch had already de-Nazified its sprites and textures in the secret levels and not many seemed to mind then.
