Kudzu came to this reviewer during a significant birthday celebration. The day was filled with echoes of our past. There was the music on the radio – uncanny remixes of early-to-mid-90s techno songs that used to hype up pre-teen candyfloss-fuelled visits to funfairs. And there was Kudzu and its unsubtle similarity to all-time...

The NL review is pretty spot on. Very nostalgic and well-built game. I find it odd the review mentions "emulation-style slowdown" as a negative when it actually hit just right and brought me fully back to Link's Awakening on the GBC. The game provides the right feeling for a GB game without getting stuck in the ghosts of design past. For example, backtracking is a little tedious after being spoiled by modern games, but the length of the game and map design keep it in check. There are a few minor complaints as NL mentions, like an uncanny lack of player sound effects, but overall it's very good.
The atmosphere is an awesome achievement for this format. The music is superb, area title cards are oozing with character. I only wish I could spend more time in the world they built. Would love to see another entry in this universe.
