We technically already had a red eShop with the Mario Anniversary celebrations a couple years back so I'm not too thrown-off by the change myself, though I ultimately would prefer the orange look just by virtue of the nostalgia I have for it.
if it being red can somehow make it run smoother on Switch 2 though then I accept it with open arms XD
of course the one time I'm actually timely with updating my Switch and this happens π
My Switch is from late-2021 (and thus has the better battery life compared to a launch Switch) so if @Serpenterror's examination is correct then I should be fine to update to 20.0.1 without issue but goodness gracious this is not what you want from an already controversial update π
@hyliandood Perfect, thanks for letting me know! I've got a bunch of Mega Man/Picross games archived for later use and was worried it'd be hard to find them after this update XD
Haven't gotten around to updating yet myself but I've got one question in regards to this: if you have a bunch of games archived (i.e. digital games you've bought, downloaded and then archived for download later on), do they show up for redownload in this menu now? I've gotten very into the habit of archiving stuff in order to save on general space with my Switch and I'm curious as to how that works now XD
On the one hand, these two games specifically are effectively giving you brand new DLC packs on top of general system-wide buffs as opposed to BOTW/TOTK only having performance boosts so the higher pricepoint does make sense.
On the other hand though....$20 is a lot considering you already have to have bought the games beforehand for it to come into effect in the first place. I imagine its this way to prevent people from just buying the Switch 1 versions and upgrading rather than buying the shiny new Switch 2 edition but yeah its uh....hrrrm to say the least.
still gonna upgrade my copy of Kirby and the Forgotten Land though because its one of my favourite Switch games period XD
300+ games in and they still haven't added Chrono Trigger, 0/10 smh
Jokes aside, as someone who primarily subs to NSO for the retro titles, the service has really managed to build up a great selection of games this past half-decade or so. Undeniably started off very shaky with only NES/SNES games for the first three years and the dodgy emulation quality of N64 with the introduction of the Expansion Pack, but between the massive variety of consoles to pick from (with even more on the way thanks to GameCube on Switch 2), generally super solid emulation quality for everything besides N64 and a very admirable fearlessness to add more obscure picks from older systems has really endeared me to the service overall π
well this is probably gonna be the best excuse I have to finally finish Blazing Blade off huh XD
Even though I haven't yet finished the previous GBA Fire Emblem as of now, I still really loved what I played of FE: Blazing Blade overall (well everything besides the core tactics gameplay I should specify π ) so I'm definitely interested in giving Sacred Stones a go in the future!
While it was enjoyable getting to peek behind the curtain for the development history of a bunch of different generations, those leakers stepped far beyond reasonable boundaries by also obtaining the personal info of GF employees so I can't say I have any sympathy for them in this scenario whatsoever. When Nintendo decides to go after a leaker (especially for a leak of this magnitude), they usually end up getting their way so I'd say its pretty much a matter of when rather than if at this point.
more fuel to the fire that they really wanted to call the Switch 2 the 'Super Switch' but were too deathly afraid of repeating a Wii U-type situation XD
This is such a fantastic ad though. The original SNES ad is one of the most iconic Nintendo trailers of all time so seeing it recreated (at least as much as possible with the games of today) is absolutely delightful π
@DarkTron I think what saddens me is that, at least with my local one, they do tend to put things below MSRP every now and then (most 1-year-old and beyond switch games have about β¬10 knocked off of them for instance) but now that every other major gaming shop has basically fled the coop, they kind of have free reign now to do as they please π₯²
if only my own local retailer followed suit π EU does tend to get better overall deals for games by virtue of it encompassing so many different territories so its nice to see that continue when the world needed it the most (well, depending on where you live anyways XD).
well this is certainly one hell of a dampener on things XD
I imagine there's a whole lot of reasons why this is the case now (heightened cost of making games, recent international tariffs, general greed, etc.) but it still really stings to see Nintendo, who up until this point were one of the last big companies to keep things at a lower overall price, stoop to $70+ games.
The discrepancy between Mario Kart and DK has me a little optimistic the premium price won't be the standard, but Nintendo is very acutely aware of how popular their games are so I wouldn't hold out hope on that end π
@DarkTron If that pricing is accurate then I can honestly work with that; I'm not in any real rush to get a Switch 2 at the moment so I'll be able to build up the funds for it over the next couple months before nabbing it around Christmas time.
aaaaaaah, so this is why they didn't bring WW/TP HD to Switch XD
100% called that Gamecube NSO would be Switch 2-exclusive but it still feels surreal to see it actually, finally happen. Three games at launch is a bit pathetic but those games are definitely high-quality and stuff like Chibi-Robo and the Pokemon games coming later down the line sweetens the deal a fair bit more.
it ain't a new 3D Mario like I was expecting, but who am I to say no to such a great ape? π This looks like such a fascinating adaptation of DK into 3D as well, with a heavy emphasis on destructable environments and generally beating the s*** out of anything that looks at you funny, very big fan of what I've seen so far!
Personally predicted a late-August release timing myself so early-June is definitely a pleasant surprise, though the lack of any pricepoint is baffling for it being this close to release XD
Nintendo making a Zoom clone for the Switch 2 OS was not on my bingo sheet whatsoever but I can't lie: it seems like they've actually done a pretty bang-up job with it! Doubt it'd be something I use or anything but built-in voice/video chat is awesome regardless.
I can't even begin to imagine how toxic something like Splatoon or Mario Party will get with it though XD
SAKURAI'S NEXT GAME WAS KIRBY AIR RIDE 2 THAT ABSOLUTE MADMAN Never played the original but I know people have wanted this for decades at this point and to see it be Sakurai's next game after SSBU fills me with an overwhelming amount of joy.
A new Mario Kart is typically not the most exciting thing for me since its an inevitability with every Nintendo system but HOLY F*** DUDE THIS LOOKS RAD.
The expressiveness, the gimmicks, the sheer quantity of playable characters and all the free-roam stuff on top? MK World looks like a proper evolution of Mario Kart after years of MK8 being pretty much the peak of what came before!
if only I had this back when I was working my last 9-5 job smh
always a big fan of NL's April Fool's gags but this might be one of the best ones yet (Felix with the Steve Jobs-esque outfit especially was killing me XD)
bloody hell, they must REALLY be committing to Nintendo Today being the main way they'll be delivering news outside of Directs now because this is a pretty massive bombshell to just drop on a tiny little mobile app XD
also the release date being a week and a bit after BotW's 10th Anniversary is a nice touch π₯
Nowhere near as good as the last proper Direct but still a really good time, especially given how this is essentially an appetiser for what's to follow in a week's time. Prime 4 getting a full gameplay reveal was definitely the highlight for me (even if the lack of a release date pains me beyond belief XD) but the rest of the Direct was no slouch either with stuff like that Dotemu Marvel beatemup, another AI The Somnium Files game and brand new Rhythm Heaven and Tomodachi Life games for the first time in pretty much over a decade. A pretty solid 7.5/10 and I cannot wait to see what the Switch 2 Direct has in store for us in a week's time!
A brand-new Marvel-centric beatemup in the year of our lord 2025 would've already been enough to pique my interest, but the fact its coming from the same devs behind Scott Pilgrim and TMNT Shredders Revenge make this an easy Day-One purchase for me, cannot wait XD also I love all the MvC references they chucked in with the character sprites, great touch
after all these years, we're finally gonna be able to beat the beat once more π Never played Rhythm Heaven before myself but I know how die-hard the fanbase is for the series so to finally see a wholly new entry after so long is delightful. The 2026 release date is....bizarre but other than that it looks like a great return for the series (even if the TTS voices were a bit offputting XD).
Having the exploration and battling portions be separated like this is such a genius way of incorporating PLA's ranking system into a modern-day game like PLZ-A and it makes me really excited to see how the real-time battle mechanics are gonna end up playing out. Still buggering annoying that they didn't show off any new Megas (even teasing one off-screen at the end it seems) but I don't mind waiting just a little bit longer if need be XD
ohhhhhhh my god dude, every single worry I might've had about Prime 4 just went out the f***ing window, this looks absolutely PHENOMENAL π
Love the new jungle setting, love the psychic-based ability set and I especially love that badass crimson suit they teased at the end. Metroid Prime has fast climbed up to being one of my favourite gaming series ever and MP4 looks like it'll continue the series streak of banger after banger release π
with that being said though, WHY IS THERE NO RELEASE DATE
Fully expecting a massive gameplay/release date reveal for MP4 (though am personally not as confident on Prime 2/3 remasters being announced alongside it), which would already make the Direct a banger in my eyes, but it'd cool to finally see some highly requested remasters like WW/TP, F-Zero GX and others finally come to Switch as well before the generation is over.
oh and there is one more thing I wanna see in tomorrow's Direct.... Capcom has been a consistent presence in basically every Direct of the last year LET ME HAVE THIS π
Oh wow, a full-blown regular Direct? Even taking into account the recent rumours, I was sure that if one were to happen that it'd be a Partner Showcase or something (i.e. a presentation without 1st-Party announcements) so this is a great surprise.
As for hopes/predictions then, more Metroid Prime 4 info feels like a given and it'd be cool to see some remakes/remasters to round out the Switch 1's final year as the main console (plus anything coming out on Switch 1 will also be on Switch 2 so it's not a big deal either way XD). Excited to see how they choose to send off one of the best Nintendo systems of all time π«‘
I think the likelihood of a 'one last hurrah' Switch 1 Direct of any kind (general, Partner Showcase, Indie World, etc) ultimately hinges on when the Switch 2 actually comes out. I'm firmly in the camp that believes it'll release around the end of Summer at the earliest so I definitely think we'll get some smaller remakes/remasters announced for Switch 1 to pad out the release schedule in-between (plus everything on Switch 1 is gonna be playable on Switch 2 so its not a huge deal either way). Still not entirely convinced this would be done through a Direct rather than a random Twitter trailer drop though but we'll just have to wait and see I guess XD
Nobunaga's Ambition is one hell of a pull for a service like this but I honestly really like it, even as someone who has absolutely zero knowledge of/experience with the series. I've always had high praise for how willing NSO has gotten with adding intensely niche/obscure titles from their featured systems as of late and this latest lineup is a fantastic example of that once again. It sucks that this is essentially making up for the fact that SNES NSO is also losing a game on the exact same day with Super Soccer but I'm thankful they went a bit extra on the games to compensate at the very least.
also now that Koei Tecmo is back on board with NSO can we get the other two NES Ninja Gaiden games too please and thank you XD
I'll never forget the pain I felt back in my younger years when Pokemon partnered with Mega Blocks for sets instead of LEGO so to see this finally get rectified is a dream come true. Ultimately the actual quality of the sets themselves are going to be the deciding factor here (please for the love of god be actual regular sets instead of painfully kid-centric builds) but for the time being, this is everything I could've hoped for.
Over the last long while, I've grown incredibly fond of the concept of 'remakes' that basically start the same as the original piece before spinning off into something completely different and DK94 is probably one of the earliest and best examples of it in terms of gaming. A wonderfully thought-out reinvention of the original DK arcade game's core mechanics/ideas and one I am thrilled to finally be able to play after all this time!
MARIO'S PICROSS BABY YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I LOVE PICROSS πππ
I had a feeling they'd go pretty extravagant for MAR10 Day in terms of potential NSO drops but even I wasn't expecting something this good. Not only do you have Mario's Picross which is a banger in its own right (and also something that appeals to me and me specifically XD) but also possibly the most requested Game Boy game for the service that isn't Pokemon in DK94. Amazing lineup and I'll definitely be tackling both of these in the near future!
Far better paced than the last couple though lacking in any one 'WOW' moment like a new Mega for Z-A or a new entry in one of the spinoffs (though Champions can be seen as a successor to Stadium if you squint). Z-A is looking supremely interesting from the little we've seen so far and that's all I was really hoping to see going in so yeah: not too bad if you ask me.
ITS ACTUALLY A FULL-BLOWN SEQUEL TO XY I CANNOT BELIEVE MY EYES π Absolutely not what I was expecting Z-A to be like whatsoever but in the best way possible. The gameplay seems to be a natural progression of PLA's half real-time/half turn-based mechanics into a fully Xenoblade-esque R-T system, Lumiose seems like it'll be a blast to get lost in and AZ IS BACK AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Suffice to say I am extremely excited for this and cannot wait for it to come out in most likely November π
POKEMON STADIUM LIVES I've always been curious as to whether Game Freak would make an official battle simulator in the modern age given how popular Showdown is and its great to see them finally doing it a la older games like Stadium, Battle Revolution, etc.. It being for mobile as well does worry me a bit but if GF are handling the planning of it then I'm pretty confident it'll be a fairly interesting experience!
It was an inevitability more than anything but still nice to see confirmed regardless π
More Legends Z-A news will be more than enough for me in regards to this livestream but I do think this is the last-chance saloon for mainline Pokemon on NSO because I'm gonna be real here: if it doesn't get announced here, its not happening until the Switch 2 comes out at the earliest XD
I've gotten so many great bite-sized deals over the past number of years thanks to Gold Points, be it small DLC or even cheap full games so this saddens me immensely. I'm very curious as to why they're culling it now of all times and not the numerous years its been in effect for Switch 1 but regardless, its a tragic sight to see indeed π
Castlevania is a series I have become ungodly obsessed with over the past year-and-a-half; what started off as just a passing interest in the franchise has morphed into a full-on fixation with anything and everything related to it. And yet, despite this deep-seeded adoration for the series....I'm not sure if I can open my heart to the idea of a new one.
Konami are certainly in a better state now than they were during the 2010's, but this is still a company who avoids anything resembling a risk like the plague and thusly pretty much everything good they've put out over the past bit has been either remakes/rereleases of older titles (Castlevania itself being a prime example) with most of their actually new stuff falling well below the mark (see everything Silent Hill related that isn't the SH2 Remake) so I'm highly skeptical as to whether they could actually make a CV game that lives up to the series' storied heritage. Plus the specification of it being 'AAA' has alarm bells ringing in my head because, in my eyes, that doesn't read like it'll be a 2D game (yknow: what people actually want?).
Time will only tell I suppose but yeah: cautious optimism with heavy emphasis on the 'cautious' part π°
Kinda surreal to see a proper new Mario Kart after all this time (MK8 alone was with me for my entire teenage existence XD) and it seems like the visual style is pulling from Wonder's more 'official artwork accurate' look too. Way too early to really say much else as of now but yeah: wild to finally see the first brand new Mario Kart in over a decade XD
Nintendo is the funniest f***ing company of all-time oh my god π€£π
Can't believe they'd just shadowdrop something as monumental as this at 1PM in the afternoon but I'm not complaining because god this system looks rad as hell. Still not entirely sold on the name being just 'Nintendo Switch 2' but I imagine I'll get used to it in time β¨
Absolutely heartbroken if this does end up being the case. While its not a series I tend to talk about all too much, Punch Out is easily one of my all-time favourite Nintendo series ever made (right alongside others like Pokemon, Splatoon and Kirby). Nothing plays like Punch Out does with its rhythm/puzzle based combat and over-the-top opponents and, while I can definitely see the hesitance to do something with it given how so much of the series was built off of the most blatant of stereotypes imaginable, outright franchise abandonment would be terrible. If this is where the series ends (for the foreseeable future at least), then I can at least rest easy with the knowledge that they went 3/3 on banger gamesπ₯

Re: It's Official, LEGO PokΓ©mon Sets Are Finally Coming Our Way Next Year
FINALLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY πππ
I'll never forget the pain I felt back in my younger years when Pokemon partnered with Mega Blocks for sets instead of LEGO so to see this finally get rectified is a dream come true. Ultimately the actual quality of the sets themselves are going to be the deciding factor here (please for the love of god be actual regular sets instead of painfully kid-centric builds) but for the time being, this is everything I could've hoped for.
Re: Review: Donkey Kong (GB) - One Of The Game Boy's Very Best
Over the last long while, I've grown incredibly fond of the concept of 'remakes' that basically start the same as the original piece before spinning off into something completely different and DK94 is probably one of the earliest and best examples of it in terms of gaming. A wonderfully thought-out reinvention of the original DK arcade game's core mechanics/ideas and one I am thrilled to finally be able to play after all this time!
Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's Game Boy Library With Two More Titles
MARIO'S PICROSS BABY YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I LOVE PICROSS πππ
I had a feeling they'd go pretty extravagant for MAR10 Day in terms of potential NSO drops but even I wasn't expecting something this good. Not only do you have Mario's Picross which is a banger in its own right (and also something that appeals to me and me specifically XD) but also possibly the most requested Game Boy game for the service that isn't Pokemon in DK94. Amazing lineup and I'll definitely be tackling both of these in the near future!
Re: How Would You Rate The PokΓ©mon Presents Showcase For February 2025?
Far better paced than the last couple though lacking in any one 'WOW' moment like a new Mega for Z-A or a new entry in one of the spinoffs (though Champions can be seen as a successor to Stadium if you squint). Z-A is looking supremely interesting from the little we've seen so far and that's all I was really hoping to see going in so yeah: not too bad if you ask me.
Re: PokΓ©mon Legends: Z-A Trailer Confirms Starters And Mega Evolutions, Coming Late 2025
ITS ACTUALLY A FULL-BLOWN SEQUEL TO XY I CANNOT BELIEVE MY EYES π

Absolutely not what I was expecting Z-A to be like whatsoever but in the best way possible.
Re: 'PokΓ©mon Champions', A New Battle-Focused Game, Announced For Switch And Mobile
POKEMON STADIUM LIVES

I've always been curious as to whether Game Freak would make an official battle simulator in the modern age given how popular Showdown is and its great to see them finally doing it a la older games like Stadium, Battle Revolution, etc.. It being for mobile as well does worry me a bit but if GF are handling the planning of it then I'm pretty confident it'll be a fairly interesting experience!
Re: PokΓ©mon Presents Announced For 27th February 2025
It was an inevitability more than anything but still nice to see confirmed regardless π
More Legends Z-A news will be more than enough for me in regards to this livestream but I do think this is the last-chance saloon for mainline Pokemon on NSO because I'm gonna be real here: if it doesn't get announced here, its not happening until the Switch 2 comes out at the earliest XD
Re: Nintendo Is Discontinuing Gold Points, One Of The Switch's Best Incentives
I've gotten so many great bite-sized deals over the past number of years thanks to Gold Points, be it small DLC or even cheap full games so this saddens me immensely. I'm very curious as to why they're culling it now of all times and not the numerous years its been in effect for Switch 1 but regardless, its a tragic sight to see indeed π
Re: Poll: Is It Finally Time For Castlevania To Rise Again?
Re: Nintendo Will Hold A Switch 2 Direct Presentation In April
oh goddamnit I was watching the NA trailer for this initially and the way they do dates I thought this was scheduled for February 4th initially π
If it's anything like the Switch Presentation of January 2017 though? Yeah we're in for one hell of a ride come April 2nd π€©
Re: New Mario Kart Teased For Switch 2
Kinda surreal to see a proper new Mario Kart after all this time (MK8 alone was with me for my entire teenage existence XD) and it seems like the visual style is pulling from Wonder's more 'official artwork accurate' look too. Way too early to really say much else as of now but yeah: wild to finally see the first brand new Mario Kart in over a decade XD
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Trailer Gives First Official Look At The New Console
Re: Nintendo's Punch-Out!! Series May Be Dead And Buried For Good
f***ing TKO out of nowhere goddamn π
