I already own about half of these. But always looking to get more games for my Switch.
Ding Dong XL is so boring
If you want a decent game currently under $5 and you have an open mind, I recommend This Strange Realm Of Mine
Currently 90% off and has barely any official critic reviews on Metacritic, but strong user reviews on the site as well as Steam
@Coach_A "Ding Dong XL is so boring"
Proof that size doesn't matter.
Not the most exciting list but that's what you'd expect for the price point. Downwell is really good for such a cheap game though.
@Coach_A Thanks for the heads up!! Just bought it.
@BenAV most of these are good. It's just the few outliers that make me wonder why they were even included to begin with.
Doom games are forever classic and still hold up today. Puzzle games like Golf Peaks and Toki Tori hold up as well, but for different reasons.
Earth Wars represents unique value too considering it sells under a different name and for 5x the price on PS4/PC/XB1.
Be good if you do a similar list for frequently heavily discounted games.
@AG_Awesome I'd be keen to hear your thoughts. It plays like a story-driven Doom with Minecraft-like graphics, but forges its own path with takes on philosophy
Toki Tori is so good. More people need to play it.
Can def vouch for Downwell - great game to dabble in from time to time and cool soundtrack.
Ding Dong is a great little game. I play it before bed almost every evening.
Seems a little weird that the first three are Doom. It makes me appreciate where they intentionally limit themselves to one game in a series.
Don't sleep on Gunman Clive and its sequel. Heck, Kamiko is great. Those are must plays, especially for their respective prices.
Own about 9 of those, which are good
. Not sure if I would ever play the others though.
I know theyre not normally under 5 but Bastion, Steamworld Dig, and Steamworld Heist are on sale so often for under that price point they might as well be included!
I can agree with PAN PAN for sure.
I’d also say that if you count sales, OXENFREE is my favourite game on Switch and I think it was $5 at one time?
If you ever see that on sale it’s an absolute steal.
@Coach_A lol I had about 3-4 hours worth of fun with it. It's just like an addictive mobile game. PSA, it was on sale when I bought it while on sale for$0.49. Retrospectively it's a 50c game
Loved Golf Peaks. Great little puzzler with a fantastically zen soundtrack.
Kamiko is a very solid hack-and-slash with good replay value (since 3 distinct playable characters).
Bury my love can be a bit slow; but it is poignant, sadly insightful into the extremely difficult and dangerous journeys of myriad people, and genuinely nerve-racking as you try to help guide your wife to safety.
All well worth a try.
@TimboSlice Oxenfree is a fabulous game, and this is the perfect time of year to play it.
@IronMan30 agree on Kamiko! More people should play this game.
@Coach_A Not trying to imply that they're bad games (I've bought quite a few myself), just more that I consider them to be like 6 or 7 out of 10 games. Decent games for the price if you want something cheap to play but not really up there with the better stuff on the eShop.
Yep, Doom is such a great Game, like the Switch Version and played through Sigil these days.
Is Duke Nukem 3D not also under 5 Bucks?
Doom 64 is also a really really great Port.
With the Ability to save everywhere it is much more fun and not so frustrating hard when a pit gets you or a spawning Demon strikes you.
@IronMan30 I just want to echo what you said about Gunman Clive. Have those games on my WIiU and 3ds and have beaten both many times. Such great games.
Anyone played Goblin Sword? I picked it up for about £1 and I love it. Simple d&d style platformer, and tremendous fun.
Great idea for an article/video, but would have been nice for it to feature the UK prices for each as well. (And I’d say Euro too for those readers/viewers!)
The Switch versions of the first three Dragon Quest games are absolutely terrible! The only good versions of those games are the original NES ones. The remakes look ugly and make the games so easy that they become boring. The first game is one of the best RPGs of all time because of the challenge and sense of fear and exploration that result from that. Stay away from the Switch versions of these games, which are just re-hashes of the ugly mobile versions.
Gunman Clive collection is brilliant.
The only one I played in this list is Kamiko, and it's crap.
Blazing Beaks - rogue-lite, twin stick shooting, dungeon crawler in which you control various water based birds. (Usually about £2)
Q-Yo Blaster - fantastic shmup, almost Cuphead style graphics, interesting levels and bosses, very fun. (Usually about 89p).
Crayola Scoot - brilliant for kids. Like a cross between Tony Hawks and Splatoon. Actually really quite decent. (Usually about £2.50 when it's in a sale).
Pikuniku - crazy puzzle platform adventure, funny, charming, delightful. (Usually about 99p in sales).
Hard West - cowboy based X-com style strategy game. Looks great and has a cool story too. (I paid £7 in a sale ages ago and didn't regret it, but it's almost always under £4 nowadays).
There are absolutely loads of great games on Switch for £3 and under especially in the sales.
@Jimmy_G_Buckets
I bet you do
Is Ding Dong XL Where you ding dong ditch your neighbors?
Also, I'm sorry but Dragon Warrior 1 is an awful game with poor level and grinding mechanics even back then. Its not worth a penny unless you like pain and misery.
