Fighters Destiny was excellent. Tight controls with a unique spin on the genre. I rented it so many times back in the day and recently picked up a complete in box copy for a very reasonable price. Good times
@Arawn93 You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about, and are absolutely spreading misinformation.
Firstly - I have the European version and have put more than 10 hours into the game so far. And while it does have a note on the box that it requires a 7.47GB download, this is not the case at all. It only requires the day 1 ~900MB update exactly like the PlayAsia cart - they are very likely the exact same cart with different labels. My guess is that they may have originally gone with a code in a box but changed their minds and didn’t update the box art. I was almost ready to refund when I saw this on the box but actually did some research online to find out this is not the case, so why you are saying it here is baffling.
Secondly - this is absolutely not a “bare minimum port.” It’s actually not a port - it’s a remaster. And a great one at that (no it’s not a remake - no one said it was). All the main 3d models and enemies have been updated. All the backgrounds have not only been upscaled well but all the beautiful animated background effects have also been nicely upscaled AND converted well to widescreen format. Additionally the UI has had a clean redesign not to mention all the quality of life additions that make the game faster or easier to play through.
You can be upset that they didn’t do a full on remake, or that they didn’t market the game more. The Xenoblade series sells millions upon millions of copies whereas these games didn’t sell well at all and Origins never even received a PAL release. Expecting a Xenoblade Chronicles remaster budget is just straight up silly. The fact these have even been re released is a minor miracle in my opinion.
What’s here in this package is great. It’s not perfect. There are some performance issues in the move to the Unity engine. The loss of English VO is a bit disappointing (but if you actually know why, you can kind of understand why it’s not included). Would have been nice to re dub at least the first game…
I would say if anyone is on the fence about these games, the quality of remaster is not something that you should wonder about - they are great games and great remasters.
@RadioHedgeFund So you actually think that Nintendo are actively refusing that Rare developed Goldeneye Remaster because, sorry, what; they only want Goldeneye as part of their “retro offerings?” And to “preserve the original code?” They allow all the crappy shovelware and Hentai, but that beloved Remaster - Nope… Yep, that is some äśśBackwards thinking right there. And why would “legions of gamers” harass Nintendo about getting Remakes of any N64 games when RARE developed this Remaster!? If a Rare developed Microsoft Remaster releases on Switch, what has it got to do with Nintendo? All they’d be doing is making a truckload of money for doing absolutely nothing except saying, “yeh, ok you can put it on the Switch!”
And like I said earlier - All Rando McRandomson’s believes it’s ”easier” (your word) to publish the XBLA Remaster, thinking it’s only Microsoft and Nintendo that have a say in its release… Here’s a news flash: both of those parties have the LEAST amount of say when it comes to a 007 Bond game being released, even if is one from 25 years ago.
The funny thing is, Jason Schreier would absolutely love a story sticking it to Nintendo and standing up for the little guys. He’s built a career and a reputation on doing just that for years. If even he is willing to say that what she is saying is not the truth, then nothing Hellena Taylor says is worth listening to on this subject.
I never believed what she said first was the entire story, and at this point, I wouldn’t believe a damn thing she says at all.
I was hit hard this morning on a more important matter regarding this outage in that I could not use Parsec to remote in to my workplace PC. It's only just been resolved in the last hour or so - there are far more important sectors being impacted by this outage than Nintendo Switch Online services
The auto brightness toggle is a good tip, but advising readers (and viewers) to switch off vivid mode is a little irresponsible when even the folks at Digital Foundry say it looks better with it on.
There’s no description as to what the “vivid” mode actually does (I highly doubt it’s akin to the crappy modes found on TVs as it’s much more subtle), but there is a theory doing the rounds that it’s expanding the RGB spectrum of colours a little to account for the new OLED tech - which in my opinion is enough to keep it on for good.
The Smash fighter reveal is 3 days before Metroid Dread launches. I’m going to say that was done on purpose and the last fighter will be a Metroid rep.
Either a Chozo character or the EMMI <— That would be insanely awesome
I wasn't planning on it, but I think I'm going to get this at launch. Watching the trailer a few times since E3, it just looks like so much fun - there's just something about it, that old school fun factor that most games these days just don't seem to have. The arcade version is also held in high regard, so I hope the Switch port translates well. I love the Cruis'n theme song too!
You know what needs a reprint? The Samus Returns Amiibo duo. That squishy Metroid sold out in the blink of an eye and I’ve never seen them at retail since.
Man there’s so many whinging impatient people in this comment section 🤦♂️
This is looking pretty spectacular. Doom 2016 was an amazing game, so this is definitely worth a look. I wish they had announced a release date before all of these sales though... It’s releasing so soon after I’ve just spend hundreds...
It’s actually not that our internet here is terrible (well, in some areas it absolutely is). At work I can get speeds of over 100Mb/s down, and at home I can up to 60.
It’s because the servers and infrastructure for cloud gaming haven’t been set up here by anyone just yet. A decent cloud gaming experience requires your connection to be somewhat close to the server it’s streaming from. More than likely the reason is because we have too small a population, on too large of an island for streaming technology to be viable here. Our land mass is almost the size of America but with less than 10% of the USA’s population.
It sucks, because I’d like to try out streaming tech. It’s really about money at the end of the day.
Looks like they’ve added some trees in that first image. I wonder what the ground foliage looks like after this patch. Also hoping performance has been improved too. If so, then I’ll look to purchase now. Although they could have saved some good will by delaying the game until it ran well.
@TheHeck I didn’t “trivialise the experience of those who have the issue.” You’re assuming the wrong thing. I’m actually trivialising the entire American way of life where they sue literally everyone and everything for the smallest of grievances.
I also like how you took my anectode about myself and everyone I know not having a Joy-Con problem and then made a massive jump to implying that I think COVID doesn’t exist or “it’s a little out of proportion.” Like what? How did you even get there? I actually think COVID-19 is the biggest threat to humanity in our generation.
And why do you quote my “little out of proportion” line when I relate it to Joy-Con drift and then attribute it to your made up stance of mine on COVID-19!? That’s not how you argue. You can’t take something of mine that I say about one thing and quote it in relation to something completely different. 🤦♂️
Now, I can understand anyone who has an issue with a product they’ve bought complaining about it - I do it myself! That’s why I said - “it definitely should never happen in the first place, and people who have this issue definitely have a right to complain.”
So complain. Complain all you want. Everyone with the issue should complain. Not trivialising people afflicted at all. But don’t be surprised if you’re part the “vocal minority.”
This is a really click bait title headline. Nintendo didn’t actually say those words - they’re from the legal team who are suing Nintendo.
This drifting issue, I think, is blown a little out of proportion. I have had a launch Switch with 2 set of Joy-Con with probably 3000 hours between them and I’ve never had a problem. 2 colleagues at work both have a Switch and they’ve never had a problem. My niece has Switch - no problem, my nephew has a Switch - also no issues.
The thing is, if someone doesn’t have anything to complain about, then you never hear the other side. I think the ratio of drift:no drift is way higher than those afflicted with this problem would like to think. Granted it definitely should never happen in the first place, and people who have this issue definitely have a right to complain. Nintendo did apologise in an investor meeting, so they know it’s a problem. And they should be fixing any of these issues for free... which they are... but it’s America... so let’s sue everyone. And their dog. Free money for all (lawyers)!
“Team-Xecuter, the creators of the tools being sold,” “believing they have the right to mess around with Nintendo's property.”
Yes, you can mess around with your own Nintendo property all you like. Just do it privately, in the comfort of your home and don’t distribute or sell cracking software online. Stupid pirate morons.
Just want to say it’s awesome to see the always knowledgeable Jon Cartwright join my fav Nintendo site! 👍 Such a wonderful thing see. Hopefully he’s lending his awesome voice to NintendoLife’s videos. 😀
As for me, I just got my 120th star in SuperMario64 right before downloading Rebel Galaxy Outlaw. Looking forward to reading that review as I’m having a blast so far. I’ve also been dipping in and out of DK2. Yep this is a great weekend for gaming!
I always thought that Michel Ancel was the best thing at Ubisoft. It truly is a sad day knowing that his unique creativity will never grace another Ubisoft product. I had high hopes for his vision of Beyond Good and Evil 2, but my expectations for that game are now basically non existent.
I am intimately aware of what creative differences can do within a studio environment. If Michel has decided to leave production before his Magnum Opus is complete, this tells me all I need to know about the state of that game and how different and far from Michel’s original vision it has strayed...
I wish him all the best in his new endeavours. He’ll be missed in this industry for sure.
@GrailUK Fun fact about the BotW Shrines - the names are all anagrams of the specific developer who designed them. Who do think did the Magnesis Trial Shrine? 😉
On topic, I prefer the new name to Gods & Monsters. Gods & Monsters sounds so generic, like a mobile game title. The new name gives some wiggle room for the inevitable Ubisoft sequels.
After how good Virtua Racing was done on Switch it baffles me that they didn’t continue this line with a Virtua Fighter ‘remastered’ in the same way.
I wonder what sales were like for the entire Ages line. I would guess the titles that did well were either a) ones that had extra work done to them or b) Games that couldn’t be found easily anywhere else.
@SilentHunter382 And yet the click bait article is still here - without an update.
Personally, I’m not a fan of these regurgitated news articles from other sites without fact-checking or quotes of their own. I can wait a few extra hours if it means reaching out directly to an actual person to get the full story. I would expect NintendoLife would have a fairly decent reputation with developers?
...Jim Sterling says a lot of things in his videos. And it's because of these things that I don't watch his videos... This is literally from Jim Sterling's twitter:
Do you see how there is a quote there, whereas in his video he is just rambling incomprehensible garbage? There is a massive difference between what he has "quoted" in his twitter post, and what he "said" in his video.
@nessisonett I'm not sure where the term "StickerBRUSH" originated from... or how it became such an enduring term that never seems to go away. Definitely one of the best, most timeless tracks, but it's called "Stickerbush Symphony"
David Wise and Grant Kirkhope, in my opinion, are the very best in the business. Years of experience and industry leading work have cemented their legend that will never be erased. I love listening to their music, and have it on regular rotation.
Many people always seem to hearken back to the great soundtracks of DKC and especially Diddy's Kong Quest as the best ever, but I will blow the horn and beat the drum for Tropical Freeze's soundtrack as the greatest ever composed until it's bested (probably by Mr Wise himself). In saying that, there is no denying the colossal impact the original SNES games had on video game music in general. There are many incredible sounding, timeless tracks. I personally think David Wise's "Forest Interlude" from DKC2 may in fact be the most technically competent piece of video game music ever crafted. To extract those sounds out a 16bit console is mind blowing. I listen to it often, and trying to describe its magic would do it a disservice. Anyone who hasn't heard this emotional piece of music should definitely seek it out.
I'm always excited to find out what these two are working on next - perhaps a Mario+Rabbids & DKC sequel?
I will have this day 1, and I am excited, but this video did nothing to ease my musical fears I have of this game and only increased my anxiety that this game will fall short of the soundtrack expectations that have inherently come with it.
Perhaps a small French indie studio only has a small French reach (along with a small Sega budget), but I'm a little disappointed that the original music creators weren't given the entirety of the soundtrack so it would , without a doubt, have that original Streets of Rage flavour... The way Tropical Freeze was given entirely to David Wise, that soundtrack is an absolute masterclass in video game music composition... It pulls from the old, and remixes it with new, modern techniques and tries to steer clear of contentious music genres. In my opinion, Tropical Freeze is the absolute best soundtrack ever created for a video game.
I'm glad the composers aren't trying to "replicate" the previous Mega Drive games. That would be a mistake. However, in my opinion the music should have been a purposeful call back to electronic music of the 80s/90s. It should have been that electronic/synth music with a modern twist. Remixing some old classics with new technology. Every note should attempt pluck the strings of nostalgia using the music making technology of today... Not Dubstep.
I know that the original SoR soundtracks were trying to pave new ground and trying new unproven sounds, and they succeeded. That is why those games are timeless... But this game should not be trying to do that. It is a new climate across the video game landscape and Streets of Rage does not carry the same weight it once held.
I will be getting this day 1, but while I have heard some extremely promising music (the synth music in the Floyd reveal trailer is astonishingly good), I dunno, Dubstep over Streets of Rage levels just sounds horrible to my ears... Maybe I just don't like Dubstep... Like most people...
I am loving so many things about this long awaited sequel. It's looking like it will be a solid follow up to a beloved series and I am there day 1.
But I have to echo some of the concerns about the music - in particular this first stage (in my opinion) was not as good as previous games and left me wanting... The music from the Floyd trailer was so epic and hit hard in all the right spots, I'm a little worried the actual in game music won't be as good as the music made on 16bit hardware 25 years ago... I know this a "collaboration" of talented Japanese music artists, but perhaps it might have been better if Yuzo Koshiro produced the entire soundtrack himself with help, just as he had done on the originals.
I think there should be 2 ways to “pre buy” games on the e-shop, but that would get complicated and messy...
1. A non refundable “pre-load” where the game is downloaded and ready when the release date arrives.
2. A refundable “pre-buy” where nothing is downloaded to your system and you possibly receive “priority” in the download queue with the rest of the people who don’t “pre-order” games.
The problem in this instance is that once software downloads to your console, if you receive a refund, the software is still there... You can bet hackers and other nefarious types would take advantage of that.
The other option is to, you know, don’t pre-buy/pre-load/pre-order anything. 🤷♂️
@Mr_Muscle I just have to chime in because your ignorance is like nails on a chalk board. When The Witcher III launched on PS4 it was full price. When it launched on PC it was full price. And now that it launches on a switch, it’s full price too. These ports aren’t created by pressing the “make switch port” button. Give it a couple of months before the inevitable price drop, and next year it will probably be the same price as the other versions.
And your argument for which version is “better” is flawed. The word better is the dumbest word in the English language. Your only argument for why this version is “inferior” is because of graphical performance. I would argue this version is “better” (for me) because I might actually get to finish it, whereas I wouldn’t be able to put any time into other versions. I spend 10 hours a day working in front of computer screen (3d artist), the last thing I want to do when I get home is stare at a monitor or a TV screen.
I can fit an hour or so of game time in before bed, at lunch, or during my commute. Not everyone has the same living circumstance as you. Perhaps if you ever get a demanding job, wife and family, you might come to understand just how much of a game changer the concept of the Switch actually is for millions of people.
This list is a good indication as to why we’ll never get another Wave Race or 1080. Because as much as these games were highly coveted by “fans” and critics alike at the time, where is the love for them now!? How are they rated so low by the community when they are 2 of the best and most polished games on the GameCube...
Shame on everyone who rated those games so poorly.
Do people actually understand what a battery suck Bluetooth is? I actually have an extremely decent and expensive pair of over ear Bluetooth headphones and actually choose to wear wired (granted my wired pair is excellent too).
Does everyone remember when the Switch launched? The moronic haters were all like, “der the Switch only lasts 2 hrs undocked it sucks!1!” ...Could you imagine the PR nightmare if Bluetooth was included and the Switch only lasted an hour and a half undocked while you wore a pair of Bluetooth beats by Dre?
I’d actually love to see a battery test on a Bluetooth dongle that pulls power from the Switch... on a battery intensive game like BotW or Doom 2016, I think battery time would be well under 2 hours.
In a perfect world, the Switch would’ve launched as powerful as a PS4, have Bluetooth headphone support and have a battery that lasts at least half a day...
If Nintendo is indeed looking to make a big splash with a launch in China, this seems really smart of Ubisoft to position itself as the “party” game franchise much the same way Mario Party is positioned here. It looks fun too.
God I hate EA and their stupid PR bullsh!t.. There is not enough profanity in the English language for me to describe my disdain for this backwards a$$ company. EA proper is only interested in shoe-horning as much predatory micro-transaction crap into every game they release. I worry for the future of Respawn. I hope their contractual agreements are iron-clad.
So what is his reasoning for someone like me; someone who only owns a Switch and skipped out on the PS4 & XB1 (I’ll probably never fully game tethered to a TV ever again. The hell with visual fidelity). Someone who would buy a Titanfall, Fallen Order or a decently ported FIFA game on my Switch? Hell, a decent Sims port on Switch could get my wife to purchase one for that alone!
An interesting point to note about this scumbag CEO - Andrew Wilson is the executive who green lit and pushed the concept of Fifa’s Ultimate Team into the vile, predatory, greedy, gambling system that exists today. Spending pennies in game development to make millions in micro-transactions. There is no going back for EA. This is their business model now and it just won’t fly on a Nintendo console. So this scumbag CEO can spin all the bullsh!t he wants, but the fact is, the reason EA won’t release games on the Switch is because micro-transactions just aren’t as lucrative on the Switch as they are on other platforms.
I wonder what EA will do when their lootboxes become regulated. No doubt that will be the day Andrew Wilson retires.

Re: Xbox Acknowledges "The Journey" It's Been On To Revive GoldenEye 007

Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Responds To Online Backlash In Ongoing Dispute
The funny thing is, Jason Schreier would absolutely love a story sticking it to Nintendo and standing up for the little guys. He’s built a career and a reputation on doing just that for years. If even he is willing to say that what she is saying is not the truth, then nothing Hellena Taylor says is worth listening to on this subject.
I never believed what she said first was the entire story, and at this point, I wouldn’t believe a damn thing she says at all.
Re: Nintendo Switch Online Hit By Amazon Web Service Outages
I was hit hard this morning on a more important matter regarding this outage in that I could not use Parsec to remote in to my workplace PC. It's only just been resolved in the last hour or so - there are far more important sectors being impacted by this outage than Nintendo Switch Online services
Re: Video: Here's How To Change The Screen Settings On Your Nintendo Switch OLED
Re: Gallery: Nintendo Reflects On Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Ahead Of The Final Fighter Reveal
The Smash fighter reveal is 3 days before Metroid Dread launches. I’m going to say that was done on purpose and the last fighter will be a Metroid rep.
Either a Chozo character or the EMMI <— That would be insanely awesome
Re: Exclusive: Eugene Jarvis Talks Cruis'n Blast And The "Joy" Of Working With Nintendo Again
Re: It Looks Like Metroid's 'Dark Samus' amiibo Is Getting A Reprint
You know what needs a reprint? The Samus Returns Amiibo duo. That squishy Metroid sold out in the blink of an eye and I’ve never seen them at retail since.
Re: Capcom Broadcasting Resident Evil Showcase Next Week, Will Feature RE: Village And "More"
You know what I would I consider a megaton announcement from Capcom regarding Resident Evil? Gyro support for Resident Evil 4.
I still haven't purchased RE4 for Switch because of that omission.
Re: DOOM Eternal Blasts To Switch In December - Check Out The New Trailer
Man there’s so many whinging impatient people in this comment section 🤦♂️
This is looking pretty spectacular. Doom 2016 was an amazing game, so this is definitely worth a look. I wish they had announced a release date before all of these sales though... It’s releasing so soon after I’ve just spend hundreds...
Re: Aussie Gamers Are Locked Out Of Switch's Cloud-Based Future, It Seems

Re: The Switch Version Of The Outer Worlds Is Getting A Patch Next Week
Looks like they’ve added some trees in that first image. I wonder what the ground foliage looks like after this patch. Also hoping performance has been improved too. If so, then I’ll look to purchase now. Although they could have saved some good will by delaying the game until it ran well.
Re: Nintendo Reportedly Arguing Switch Joy-Con Drift "Isn't A Real Problem"
Re: Nintendo Reportedly Arguing Switch Joy-Con Drift "Isn't A Real Problem"
Re: Nintendo Wins $2 Million In Lawsuit Against Switch Piracy Hack Store
“Team-Xecuter, the creators of the tools being sold,” “believing they have the right to mess around with Nintendo's property.”
Yes, you can mess around with your own Nintendo property all you like. Just do it privately, in the comfort of your home and don’t distribute or sell cracking software online. Stupid pirate morons.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 26th)
Re: Rayman Creator Michel Ancel Announces Retirement From The Games Industry

Re: Ubisoft Game Rating In Taiwan May Have Revealed God & Monsters' New Name
@GrailUK Fun fact about the BotW Shrines - the names are all anagrams of the specific developer who designed them. Who do think did the Magnesis Trial Shrine? 😉
On topic, I prefer the new name to Gods & Monsters. Gods & Monsters sounds so generic, like a mobile game title. The new name gives some wiggle room for the inevitable Ubisoft sequels.
Re: Sega Says It Wants To Re-Release More Past Titles On Nintendo Switch
After how good Virtua Racing was done on Switch it baffles me that they didn’t continue this line with a Virtua Fighter ‘remastered’ in the same way.
I wonder what sales were like for the entire Ages line. I would guess the titles that did well were either a) ones that had extra work done to them or b) Games that couldn’t be found easily anywhere else.
Re: There Are Reportedly "No Plans" To Fix Deadly Premonition 2's Awful Frame Rate
Re: There Are Reportedly "No Plans" To Fix Deadly Premonition 2's Awful Frame Rate
...Jim Sterling says a lot of things in his videos. And it's because of these things that I don't watch his videos... This is literally from Jim Sterling's twitter:
http://twitter.com/JimSterling/status/1280886720939134979
Do you see how there is a quote there, whereas in his video he is just rambling incomprehensible garbage? There is a massive difference between what he has "quoted" in his twitter post, and what he "said" in his video.
Re: Feature: Ex-Rare Composers David Wise And Grant Kirkhope On Writing For Yooka-Laylee, Their Inspirations And Working From Home
@nessisonett I'm not sure where the term "StickerBRUSH" originated from... or how it became such an enduring term that never seems to go away. Definitely one of the best, most timeless tracks, but it's called "Stickerbush Symphony"

Re: Feature: Ex-Rare Composers David Wise And Grant Kirkhope On Writing For Yooka-Laylee, Their Inspirations And Working From Home
Re: Video: Meet The Main Composer Behind The Streets Of Rage 4 Soundtrack
Re: Video: Check Out 11 Bone-Crunching Minutes Of Streets Of Rage 4 Co-op Gameplay
Re: Nintendo Won't Be Required To Offer eShop Pre-Order Refunds In Norway Or Germany
Re: Review: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition - An Incredible Action-RPG Stands Strong On Switch
Re: Feature: Best GameCube Games
This list is a good indication as to why we’ll never get another Wave Race or 1080. Because as much as these games were highly coveted by “fans” and critics alike at the time, where is the love for them now!? How are they rated so low by the community when they are 2 of the best and most polished games on the GameCube...
Shame on everyone who rated those games so poorly.
Re: This New Device Lets You Use Airpods And Other Bluetooth Headphones With Your Switch
Re: Ubisoft Reveals A Brand New Rabbids Game For Nintendo Switch
If Nintendo is indeed looking to make a big splash with a launch in China, this seems really smart of Ubisoft to position itself as the “party” game franchise much the same way Mario Party is positioned here. It looks fun too.
Re: Switch Owners Choose To Play EA Games On Other Platforms, Says Company CEO
Re: Rumour: Switch References In Call Of Duty Site Code Start Chins A-Waggin'
Under the Nintendo Switch reference it also mentions “killswitch.” Sooo, confirmation that Activision wants to kill the Switch. 😜
