Re: Worry Not, The Sonic Movie Trailer Has Been Fixed Now

Monkeido

I'm pretty sure the movie with a proper Sonic is long done and the abomination Sonic was just a marketing ploy (an effective one at that, already saw people saying they would go watch it, just to support them because they "listened to the fans").

The delay is either to make the re-do seem more realistic, or just to move it to a more quiet month, instead of the same month as Frozen 2.

Re: The Top 10 Best-Selling Games For Wii U, 3DS, Wii And Nintendo DS (As Of March 2019)

Monkeido

@hihelloitsme You do realise they had to make two games and not one for Wii U/3DS compared to Switch by itself. Also, the 3DS is still being sold actively right now, so this would make it the Switch/3DS era.

3DS was released 2011 and Wii U in 2012, so 8 and 7 years ago respectively. The Switch was released in 2017.

Taking Mario Kart as an example:
16.69 million (Switch) - 2 years
26.7 million (Wii U + 3DS) - 8 years

4 * 16.69 = 66.76 million (in 8 years)

So no, they don't have to keep selling like this to beat the Wii U/3DS era. If they kept selling like this, software numbers for a game like Mario Kart would even beat Wii + DS combined (60.8 million), even though those are much older (than the 8 years I used in the calculation) and were obviously a big hit with 'casuals'.

Re: Feature: Getting Reacquainted With Zelda: Link's Awakening, An Irreverent And Often Very Silly Classic

Monkeido

"he adds, before saying that because it was on the Game Boy – a console which, even in those early days of the industry, skewed towards a younger audience – the team felt it could get away with this child-like silliness."

I don't see this anywhere in the interview, but maybe I'm just blind? Or did you get that from this:
"Tezuka: It was for the Game Boy, so we thought, “Oh, it’ll be fine.” (laughs)"

Still seems like quite a bit of assuming to me.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 13th February

Monkeido

@AlexSora89 I understand it makes sense and I know all there is to do is wait. I know being an Animal Crossing fan also means you shouldn't whine about things and just be "chill" (just like the games), but it's hard to deny I felt really disappointed to get nothing about AC in this Direct.

Also, if you hadn't said "not the amiibo ones", that's exactly what I would've thought you meant. ^^'

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 13th February

Monkeido

@AlexSora89 I never played Kingdom Hearts tbh, even though I'm quite the Disney lover, but I understand your point. ^^

In the end, I know myself well enough, that I know I wouldn't have complained at all if Nintendo showed some Animal Crossing gameplay, but they didn't, so then I start to nitpick about other games I care about. I will enjoy the Link's Awakening remake and will probably think it's amazing, even though I think it could've been even better (which IMO is only a compliment to Nintendo).

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 13th February

Monkeido

@AlexSora89 That would be pretty nice. In the end, I can't deny I'm just glad this gem will get played by a lot of new people. ^^

I also already know 99% sure I will thoroughly enjoy it, it just disappoints me a bit when I know Nintendo could've really made it amazing.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 13th February

Monkeido

@AlexSora89 I hope so. And honestly, the graphics won't make or break the game for me, I even think the original Gameboy version still looks great, so I'll enjoy it regardless. ^^

EDIT: For me it's more about the fact that I know Nintendo could've made a top-down game that looks absolutely gorgeous.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 13th February

Monkeido

@AlexSora89 Argh, you basically reminded me that Tunic, an indie game (afaik), looks better than the remake for Link's Awakening.. by a major company like Nintendo.

@Anti-Matter Yes, you can. After stealing anything and going back to the shop, you'll be instantly killed though. You basically have to make sure the shopkeeper is facing up (from what I remember), while you go out the door with one of the buy-able items in your hands.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 13th February

Monkeido

@Spudtendo Edited my post as well

I definitely agree with you and in no way do I think it looks bad and as I said, I'll definitely buy it. I was even playing through the DX version on my 3DS a few weeks ago, so I'll happily play this remake. Would probably excite me a lot if indeed they added new content. ^^

Oh, one more thing I have to say:
Link's Awakening is also the only Zelda game where you have the option to steal from the shopkeeper. Something I managed to find out as a little kid and be amazed by. Though to be fair to my younger self, I was stuck on the first part for ages (not knowing English back then also didn't help), so I basically tried everything I could and still loved the game while being stuck. ^^'

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 13th February

Monkeido

I found the Direct very meh, but I can see I'm in the minority here.

Link's Awakening is one of my most loved Zelda games, but first showing some awesome anime-style intro and then showing how the game actually has a fairly generic 2.5D look was disappointing. Does it look fine? Yes, it does. Does it look great and appropriate for the tone in Link's Awakening? Definitely not (I mean, just look at Link, when has he ever looked that "chibi-esque"). To be fair, I mostly wished it looked amazing, so I wouldn't feel so salty about not getting any Animal Crossing gameplay, but I will buy both regardless and do applaud Nintendo for remastering an amazing game that lots of people will have never played before.

Also Mario Maker 2 looks nice.

Re: Review: Grim Fandango Remastered - Still One Of The Greatest Point-And-Click Adventures Ever Made

Monkeido

I guess no gyro controls again? I really don't understand why all these point-and-click games don't at least add this as an option. I realise you have to re-center more than preferable (which you also have to do in a game like Splatoon), but it works great for World of Goo and should work fine for point-and-click games. Sorry for the rant, I just really dislike it, since I would buy most point-and-click games for Switch in a heart-beat, if only they had gyro controls. I guess it's at least good that you can play with the touchscreen.

Re: Review: Windjammers - One Of The World's Greatest Two-Player Games Finally Comes To Switch

Monkeido

@Shiryu According to that "common sense" the greatest multiplayer game ever made, which doesn't have any singleplayer content, would not deserve a 9/10 or 10/10, for the simple fact it wasn't "cheap".

There is no need to defend your review, I just found the tagline (or whatever those little added bits to the review title on the front-page are called) to clash with the final score. Again, that's just my opinion, no need to imply that your opinion is dictated by common sense, but mine isn't.
