also looking at the original article it mentions the UK version of the privacy policy for game chat being worded different.
Again does make me wonder what one is more accurate since actually "bricking" the system completely does seem like something which would definitely be a concern to have in an EULA wheres things like account related stuff or online content not functioning on modded hardware seems more in line with how things usually work.
again hoping there's eventually some clarification.
@Deerock69 This is one of the key things for me, the switch is currently the only dedicated handheld console with similar devices being closer to portable PCs including Microsoft's own one from the looks of it.
i am curious to see what the rumoured sony one ends up being like, to be honest i would actually be more than happy with sony entering the handheld/hybrid space again since it would be nice to have other options in the dedicated console space and if by some wonder it does end up doing well enough to be any kind of competitor then if anything that feels like it would be an overall positive.
@Jeronan Psportal seemed like it would have been the perfect thing for me but unfortunately i didnt have any luck with remote play via wi-fi it always felt like there was some kind of small but annoying issue preventing things from working well.
its one of the reasons why i wish it had some kind of option to directly connect to the console similar to how the wiiu gamepad worked for when remote playing locally (since it was less about being able to play outside the house and more about being able to play via a handheld screen while relaxing)

Would love a "definitive" Majoras Mask since its probably my fave 3d Zelda.
@DjinnFighter definitely interested in that Gex collection especially since i think theyre adding new camera controls or something.(forgot where i read it, think it was in one of the trailers but dont quote me on that)
would be neat in that case since i found enter the gecko to be a neat game brought down by a really bad camera, i think deep cover gecko did improve on a few aspects in that regard already though.
I remember watching a lot of giantbombs stuff a good while back and still enjoying watching the classic quick looks (like the various flight sim ones where part of the fun is seeing how long it takes to get the plane off the ground due to how complex a lot of them were)
it feels like a lot of the people i remember from the site either left or in the case of Ryan Davis he sadly passed away (at only 34 too) im not sure where all of them moved to but i think Jeff still streams on twitch and the like.
in terms of the internet and discussion it did feel like the more social media grew as a concept that discussion became wider to the point it also felt a lot more abstract, instead of discussions between people it felt like people arguing against vague amalgamations of concepts rather than things people actually said and it did kind of feel like a lot of that bled into general games journalism and its discussion alongside generally having no choice but to play to online algorithms in order for things to be noticed, the rise of ai "slop" content on the internet also feels like it didnt help the situation one bit (quite the oposite)
@Jhena (just my personal take ahead) With kazooie i think one thing which i enjoyed over others was its simplicity and structure, at least in collect-a-thon standards, with games like Tooie, DK64 and even yooka layle they felt a lot more ambitious in terms of throwing in different gameplay styles (as was the style at the time) but IMO lost some of the simplicity and general "tightness" of its design, which (again IMO) was important since a lot of the appeal came less from the platforming which wasnt quite as refined as something like Mario 64 but felt more built around the exploration to a point where it was almost more "adventure" than "platforming" with stuff like new moves being the keys to finding more collectables and even opening up more exploration, again it was these aspects i found the most tightly designed in the OG.
Again apologies for somewhat of a ramble, hoping you enjoy your time with tooie since there is still a lot i enjoyed about it.
@BringleWorkshop Honestly yeah i would definitely buy the heck out of the original snes version released in a form you could buy/keep (ideally physical) maybe if there is a remake it would be cool to have the original made available similar to how the original trials of mana was released as part of the "collection of mana" or even included with the remake kind of like how radical dreamers came with chrono cross or the orignal atelier marie was released alongside the remake.
Curious is this is something which shows up after the update or if it can show up any time when booting since i was able to update okay and have been playing it since then (launch model, hard power down after most uses) but this has me somewhat paranoid of turning on my system now.
edit:nice to see it updated and hopefully it will fix it for those that got it with minimal issues.
@JohnnyMind yeah the stick of truth is another game which comes to mind which does timing and qte based stuff in combat well, in that games case it feels like it has a lot in common with paper mario when it comes to gameplay elements (fitting too given the shows construction paper roots)
There have been a bunch of interesting ways in which games work timing elements into combat too such as legend of dragoons "additions" and shadow hearts series "judgement ring" mechanics, but yeah inspiration can breed evolution with some of the biggest aspects of games or gaming coming from itteration (including the switch itself) so yeah im in agreement on avoiding companies having too much of a monopoly on features.
@FishyS
The wii games still being available to redownload is at least a little more reassuring especially since with how little future proofing it felt like it had with it existing in its own space, no account system, purchases not carrying over to other systems (such as virtual console games) heck, FUNDS didnt even carry over, the fact that games can still be redownloaded feels impressive considering all that was against it, wheres nowadays the stores will hopefully be more "unified" for example hoping switch-1 games will have a section of the switch 2 store (hopefully separate since the eshop is crowded enough as it is)
While ideally full-physical would be available as much as possible (even if it is in a limited supply for collectors or something) and digital still has a long way to go i do feel like key-cards and virtual game cards are small baby steps for digital in that they do help with some of the issues (reselling and whatnot for key cards and virtual game cards for liscence management)
NSO is still a concern for me due to games being rendered unplayable if delisted but thats a whole other conversation.
the environment music issue being fixed is a nice one especially given how much of the area music has a focus on building up to climactic moments (the "Sawano drop") it was an issue not present in the wiiu one iirc and now its nice that these parts wont be missed out because you end up angering a nearby plant.
Like you pointed out with Playstation the option is their (with a good few games being free if you purchased them through the "psone classics" line of games back on ps3/psp/vita) and it would be great if nintendo also offered the same option since there are a bunch of games i would buy the ever loving heck out of if they were purchasable.
@electrolite77 Honestly its been nice to see these kinds of discussions like in your posts with me i have a rather safe stance on the whole thing in that i feel its fine to criticize the price, criticize nintendo about said price and be as vocal as you want as long as you arent looking down on people or calling them things like what the letter in the article mentioned . in the same way that it feels like sometimes on the other side (especially on here) you have those who throw around lables like "trolls" "whiners" "haters" "entitled" "spoiled" or words to similar effect when criticism is brought up, and it often feels more like blanket statements towards those unhappy or vocal about the pricing even when they arent targeting those who are just wanting to get a switch 2.
Really in the same way as what im getting from what you have been saying (correct me if im off the mark) is that a big part is just being respectful to other sides in this discussion (and there are many sides)
(also to all who it may apply, remember to vote!) also also: apologies if this post comes across as somewhat of a ramble.
I remember one reason why i was able to appreciate the trials of mana remake for what it did was because the original was also made available on switch through the mana collection, though in this games case the actual gameplay was completely different .
Though then again i feel like my fave remakes are the ones which manage to stand as their own game rather than being something to "replace" the original, its also why im happy when publishers and devs go out of their way to "preserve" the original either through emulation (preferably collections or anything that lets players purchase the game) or through remasters.
though the thing with ports/remasters/emulation is that sadly not everything is equal and it feels like some newer versions of games introduce issues which were not in the original, an example being things like the modern ports of FFVII-IX which have the issue of high resolution sprites on original resolution backgrounds creating a clash which was a LOT less noticable in the originals to the point where i vastly preffer the look of the psone versions, sometimes its relatively minor things such as missing or different visual effects which can also go a long way in how a game looked and some can be lost in modern conversions .
as you mentioned though there are things like the context of a game being released having an effect though i will say that a few of my fave 90s/2000s era games i didnt get to play until years later either through imports or things like the virtual console (or "psone classics" on ps3/psp/vita) simply because i either didnt have the system (never had a snes, had a mega drive) or because in the case of many rpgs from the snes through to the end of the ps2 era never originally made it to europe though i guess living through that era i was able to somewhat put my mindset back to how i would feel back then, even so games like chrono trigger, Tales of the abyss, Wild arms 2 etc joined my fave retro games despite having no childhood nostalgia.
but yeah i do feel like preservation is an important thing since it means that remakes dont have the added expectation of needing to "replace" these games and can stand on their own/offer a new take.
@SabreLevant can feel like if anything more can go wrong with older games like this wheres modern games feel a bit more "future proof" at least thats what im getting so dont quote me on that but at the very least it feels like some newer game engines are designed so its easier to have games run on multiple systems.
@Smithicus it was one of those games which was considered flawed as a game but had a lot of unique ideas and an interesting enough concept (along with making good use of its main character) that for some the flaws could be overlooked.
Does make me curious how the sequel would have fared if it was finished and released.
@NintendoBMA @Elbow With legends i would much prefer it if it got a legacy collection like the other Megaman series games since not only would it mean that legends 2 and the tron bonne game could be included but it could also be on more platforms than if it was just on NSO (alongside the usual benefit of being able to keep the games)
@Ogbert Yeah definitely agree, PlayStation had a vibe to it, and while the vibe did change from the ps1/ps2 era to the psp/ps3/vita era those latter ones had their own vibe to them. i guess you could say the latter ps4 and current ps5 era is rather "vibe-less"
I am hoping astrobots success can at least lead to them bringing back some of that old spark and funding more games like it, i would trust team asobi with a new ape escape or jumping flash after seeing astrobot (especially since arent they the last remnants of "japan studio"?)
As for nintendo i really dont feel like theyve lost their identity if anything their switch releases while having some "safe" games did give us some very creative games as well, such as Mario wonder, which despite having some aspects i wasnt as big a fan of did feel like a big step in the right direction when it came to revitalising 2d mario after nearly 2 decades of "new" super mario bros (not saying the NSMB games were "bad" just that they felt overly safe using the same world themes in every game)
@larryisaman Honestly for me im happy that switch (and switch 2's) "gimmick" is being able to play how you want for the most part since everyone has preferences in how they play games and when it came to looking back at wii it felt like for me there were a lot of times when the controls felt like more of a barrier of entry to enjoying some amazing games, for example i remember mario galaxy 1 and 2 for their creative level designs and how they used gravity rather than the parts where you had to point and shake the remote (if anything a lot of the heavy motion controlled segments were my least fave parts like the bird levels in 2)
@JohnnyMind Yeah while i find the ps5 itself a fine system it does feel like a lot of the spark that previous sony systems had is gone and a lot of that has to do with less of the kinds of games mentioned.
honestly i miss sonys handheld systems, while they made some mistakes with vita (expensive memory cards, lack of support, no TV-out) i still found it one of my fave handhelds alongside the psp (heck they even had an early version of what would become known as the "hybrid" console idea popularised by the switch in the form of the psp-go "cradle")
Definitely wouldnt say no to a successor to those systems both as an additional option when it comes to dedicated handheld "consoles" (as opposed to the more portable PC like nature of steam deck and the like) but also competition is always good.
@AJWolfTill Thats another i would love to see also, especially with the increased scale possible to show off some wicked rad jumps like weve never seen before (also wouldn't say no to excite truck)
@DonierGunad one of the QOL things which i would love to see in vagrant story is being able to quickly swap between weapons since i remember playing through it you ended up with a bunch of weapons for different situations and iirc you had to go to the menu every time.
@Puddle Visually something close to that Star ocean 2 remake only with full 3d camera in towns/dungeons i feel would work in xenogears since both used the 2d-sprites-on-polygonal-background look.
Really for me as long as the remasters dont introduce problems not in the originals like some do then im cool since really im just happy to have these games on switch and any additions are merely a bonus.
Battle speed up is nice though since i do remember the battles feeling somewhat slow in the original.
Europe/Japan one here for showing both kids, even if the way they are overlaid on the backdrop looks a bit off.
Both feature the little monkey fella so thats a plus on both.
Prefer both to the style they are going for with the rebirth since the 90s anime look i find more striking than the CG stuff on the reboot.
@N00BiSH i guess some of it can come down to where they've been viewing the preview footage/screens along with the quality of said footage/screens themselves and it will become more apparent.
even then the real show-stopper is more that the game is both running 24 racers on the course at once and that the elements outside the course are now all interactive environments with collision and whatnot.
@KidSparta Yeah it does feel like there is more to it, plus its not uncommon for a lot of the first party games to hide some pretty big elements from initial reveals and showcases.
@Anachronism Yeah just looking at advertising from back in the day too it felt like if anything "graphics" were an even bigger push im sure you remember the "bit wars" or at least know or them, now they only exist in legend but i remember those days!
@JohnnyMind Yeah while i understand how these are definitely pokemon like creatures with guns it does feel like the "pokemon with guns" label kind of gave some the idea that it was a gameplay description when from what i hear of it the game is more of a survival game (seen it compared to ARK as mentioned in the article) though havent seen too much of it so am unsure how much catching and fighting factor into the gameplay loop.
@Ultimapunch yeah while i would much prefer full physical i do feel like these are better than a code-in-a-box at the very least and can still be purchased if the game is delisted from the online store.
Comparitively with something like NSOs legacy content if its delisted then its unplayable or with cloud gaming where you need to be online for the game to even function this method does feel like one of the better options when it comes to digital since as you mentioned it can also be re-sold and have more variable prices.
Again i do feel like ideally the game should be on the card whenever possible but this does at least improve on some of the flaws inherent with digital.
@Pillowpants a different composer so it has a very different feel to some of the others.
The composer did some of the tracks for FFX such as the thunder plains theme and besaid island, the ost,s to the FFXIII games, some of the FFVII remake/rebirth tracks, world of final fantasy and alliance alive among others.
it has a very distinct sound to it and heavy use of motif's i personally really enjoyed it.
@OldManAdrius I can understand the kind of thing you are talking about, some aspects of gaming people can have trouble with especially when it comes to controllers, whether it be a physical issue, one based on habit or something related to obsessive compulsive tendencies its always nice when there's options to potentially alleviate those issues.
i also know how quick people can jump on others when they have a specific issue with something, its like how you get people accusing others of "whining" or "nitpicking" over a problem like this.
@axelhander yeah for me ideally extensive button mapping, including the ability to UNMAP certain things should be included in as much games as possible though it can feel like a crap-shoot on what can be changed with certain games especially on console, like a game will let you remap certain buttons but some features can only be mapped to certain buttons like triggers which some ones cant be changed, at the very least having system level button mapping is a good start and im happy that switch 2 seemed to change it to a game-by-game basis instead of just having presets.
@Banjo- im feeling kind of mixed, on one hand a lot of it is what i was hoping for in a successor in that its a more powerful switch with other improvements, though im definitely hoping the price situation settles down.
was unsure about the whole "switch 2 edition" stuff though from what i gather it seems like a bunch of games will be getting free updates for games which dont have any new content (i think its where that Xenoblade X 60fps mode will come into play, i think a few other games are getting it including scarlet and violet though considering how deep some of the tech issues seemed to run in that im curious how much is fixable) though it would have been nice if it did the ps5 method as an option where something like kirby forgotten land you could get the performance upgrade free like other games and the extra stuff was DLC kind of like iirc what FFVII remake intergrade did (you could get the 60fps upgrade for FFVII remake and then buy the Yuffie chapter as DLC)
while not the biggest fan of the keycard stuff i actually feel like letting players manage licences with that whole virtual gamecard is a nice option alongside the usual "primary/secondary" console thing (looking back at the psn outage a while back on ps5 it seems like quite a few people even forgot to activate it as a primary system ) with a key point being that they are at least optional for those who preffer the primary/secondary console method using online.
again am hoping some of this stuff can be cleared up in the future though its a complex situation and im definitely not in the best mental state to even try and process some stuff lately (also partially why this message is so rambling)
@dres one game im curious to see how it handles dynamic stuff like fps and resolution is dragon quest builders 2 considering it aims for 60fps but starts to chug when you build large structures, will be interesting to see if it holds that 60fps better on switch 2 through virtue of hardware.
@Thomystic yeah while im not really a fan of this method it does seem like it at the very least still lets you play the game when offline after its downloaded like other digital games which is preferable to things like the NSO online-checks or cloud games.
one of the things i would have loved to have seen improved in the series was more on the smaller scale, things like making interiors more distinct. sun and moon did feel like an okay balance in that regard in that while it had fewer houses than the older games it felt like nearly every building (outside of the pokemon centers) was unique.
@Jarl76 yeah one of the things i feel makes a big difference with mario kart is while 8 looked absolutely stunning the sweeping landscapes themselves were backdrops so i imagine they wouldn't need to worry about things like collision detection or whatnot where's with world there looks to be a LOT of interactive elements such as grind rails and other stuff which needs to be accounted for.
While there were parts of the direct i wasn't the biggest fan of the system itself definitely feels like a major jump over the original switch when it comes to capabilities.
The console itself seems capable and im curious to see what kind of games it opens itself up to though theres also the drawback of how a lot of games will likely need mandatory downloads and installs (at least going by the "key card" stuff on the JP site)
At the very least the virtual game card thing seems to mention that they are keeping the ability to play games offline for anything that isnt on NSO.
Price related stuff seems excessive in places not helped by stuff like Tariffs,
Games wise not too many first party releases but Mario kart and DK do look interesting, happy to see third partys jump in a the ground floor though.
Chat stuff seems like a step forward for nintendo at the very least though still feels like theres a lot of catching up to do, will most likely just use discord personally but nice for those who will use it.
Gamecube stuff for me was a big monkeys paw moment mainly because its only available on subscription and no option to buy/keep, though thats more my thoughts on NSO as a whole.
Overall mixed feelings about certain things but hoping for the best.
@OorWullie It does kind of feel like while with home consoles theres been some diminishing returns, with handheld consoles it does feel like the jump is a lot more noticable, i remember picking up the vita back in 2012 and found the jump in visuals from consoles like the psp impressed me more than the ps3>ps4 jump, then going on from vita to switch and it looks like going from switch 1 to switch 2 will have the same effect, as you mentioned it will feel like a LEAP in terms of visuals.
@Diowine L yeah does make me curious about the third game (and also rebirth) since having the full trilogy on a dedicated handheld console would be awesome.
@Truegamer79 With the first part of remake it wont take too long to finish but i can see rebirth taking an extremely long time to finish especially if going for everything since the scope is so much bigger, thats not even getting into the third game.
though for me i didnt regret my time with them (as frustrating as trying to 100% explore the gongaga region was)
@Joriss for me i do find it easier to focus for longer periods of time on a handheld at least, its one of the reasons i held out on re:fantazio since it feels like a switch 2 release down the line would be a safe bet.
@MaseSco honestly im hoping skies of arcadia ends up getting the remaster treatment, basically having the gamecube content with the dreamcast audio quality in HD.
Both because it would also get the game out to more people since it would likely be multiplat alongside the advantage of being able to keep the game.
@Not_Soos i do remember finding the tank controls in croc easier to get used to than tomb raider since tomb raider kind of felt like a 3d equivalent of those "cinematic" platformers like Flashback where jumping was done in a very specific way, croc feels more like a regular 3d platformer with tank controls and as tank controls go i found them some of the easier ones to use with things like being able to quick-turn and whatnot.
i am curious to see how the modern controls feel since i remember it feeling like there were points in a level where tank controls felt surprisingly natural such as lining up some of the more tricky jumps, it felt more like the levels were built around the controls compared to something like Rascal (another psone platformer with tank controls) where iirc the tank controls were put in the game later as per request of the publisher or something like that while the levels and gameplay was designed without them.
@Truegamer79 @Ultimapunch It does feel odd that outside of NSO theyve been making more attempts to help future-proof digital content such as virtual game cards offering another way to keep access to games offline outside of the usual "primary console" settings.
yet with the Legacy content it feels almost the opposite, while preferable to streaming since the games are being played natively, it being subscription-only can still cause issues such as games being delisted rendering them unplayable (wheres with eshop games people could still play them if they had bought them)
in other topics you would often see people comparing it to the likes of PS+ or gamepass but with those services games that are being played natively can be bought independent of the service (including the psone and ps2 games on PS+)
i do like the idea of legacy gaming content being made more available via official means and am not against the idea of the service existing since it does work for many people, all i wish is that it wasnt the only way to access many of these games on switch and that there was the ability to purchase as an option like with similar services.
Really from what ive seen the only flaw with the remaster is that it uses the PC/saturn soundtrack which was missing quite a few music tracks.
though given how much care and love the devs have put into the package as a whole it wouldn't surprise me if they did end up adding the music down the line.
other than that its great to hear the remaster turned out well and am looking forward to replaying the game (replayed it a few years back on psone and still enjoyed it)
@-wc- yeah it does feel like some games do feel like touchscreen would just be the perfect fit but oddly dont. while for the most part i preffer using buttons for menus and whatnot because im more used to it when it comes to things like creative tools such as the stage creator in smash i preffer the touch option.
if it is a mouse mode it would be good for things like Mario maker when in TV mode (since TV mode is more "social" and sometimes its fun to watch someone create or make a stage together) or something like as an option if square ends up doing something like putting FFXIV on it.
@-wc- I imagine handheld mode since tabletop mode and TV mode would work with a theoretical "mouse" mode.
though in handheld mode you would be able to use the touchscreen for anything which would require the (speculated) mouse feature.
to be fair though while its yet to be seen if the mouse mode is real i dont think the inability to use it in handheld mode would rule it out since after all not being able to use a feature in one of the modes didnt stop the touchscreen.
still only about a day or so until confirmation on whether it is a mouse.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Update Now Live (Version 1.0.2), Here Are The Full Patch Notes
the environment music issue being fixed is a nice one especially given how much of the area music has a focus on building up to climactic moments (the "Sawano drop") it was an issue not present in the wiiu one iirc and now its nice that these parts wont be missed out because you end up angering a nearby plant.
Re: Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Now Boasts 300 Playable Titles
@Member_the_game
agreed 100%
Like you pointed out with Playstation the option is their (with a good few games being free if you purchased them through the "psone classics" line of games back on ps3/psp/vita) and it would be great if nintendo also offered the same option since there are a bunch of games i would buy the ever loving heck out of if they were purchasable.
Re: Mailbox: Switch 2 Price Drops, Remake Replacements, Pokémon Acquisitions - Nintendo Life Letters
@electrolite77
Honestly its been nice to see these kinds of discussions like in your posts
with me i have a rather safe stance on the whole thing in that i feel its fine to criticize the price, criticize nintendo about said price and be as vocal as you want as long as you arent looking down on people or calling them things like what the letter in the article mentioned . in the same way that it feels like sometimes on the other side (especially on here) you have those who throw around lables like "trolls" "whiners" "haters" "entitled" "spoiled" or words to similar effect when criticism is brought up, and it often feels more like blanket statements towards those unhappy or vocal about the pricing even when they arent targeting those who are just wanting to get a switch 2.
Really in the same way as what im getting from what you have been saying (correct me if im off the mark) is that a big part is just being respectful to other sides in this discussion (and there are many sides)
(also to all who it may apply, remember to vote!)
also also: apologies if this post comes across as somewhat of a ramble.
Re: Mailbox: Switch 2 Price Drops, Remake Replacements, Pokémon Acquisitions - Nintendo Life Letters
@EarthboundBenjy
I remember one reason why i was able to appreciate the trials of mana remake for what it did was because the original was also made available on switch through the mana collection, though in this games case the actual gameplay was completely different .
Though then again i feel like my fave remakes are the ones which manage to stand as their own game rather than being something to "replace" the original, its also why im happy when publishers and devs go out of their way to "preserve" the original either through emulation (preferably collections or anything that lets players purchase the game) or through remasters.
though the thing with ports/remasters/emulation is that sadly not everything is equal and it feels like some newer versions of games introduce issues which were not in the original, an example being things like the modern ports of FFVII-IX which have the issue of high resolution sprites on original resolution backgrounds creating a clash which was a LOT less noticable in the originals to the point where i vastly preffer the look of the psone versions, sometimes its relatively minor things such as missing or different visual effects which can also go a long way in how a game looked and some can be lost in modern conversions .
as you mentioned though there are things like the context of a game being released having an effect though i will say that a few of my fave 90s/2000s era games i didnt get to play until years later either through imports or things like the virtual console (or "psone classics" on ps3/psp/vita) simply because i either didnt have the system (never had a snes, had a mega drive) or because in the case of many rpgs from the snes through to the end of the ps2 era never originally made it to europe though i guess living through that era i was able to somewhat put my mindset back to how i would feel back then, even so games like chrono trigger, Tales of the abyss, Wild arms 2 etc joined my fave retro games despite having no childhood nostalgia.
but yeah i do feel like preservation is an important thing since it means that remakes dont have the added expectation of needing to "replace" these games and can stand on their own/offer a new take.
apologies for the rambling nature of the post.
Re: Star Wars: Episode I: Jedi Power Battles Post-Launch Patch Now Available, Here's What's Included
@SabreLevant
can feel like if anything more can go wrong with older games like this wheres modern games feel a bit more "future proof" at least thats what im getting so dont quote me on that but at the very least it feels like some newer game engines are designed so its easier to have games run on multiple systems.
Re: N64 Platformer 'Glover' Is Getting Its First Patch On Switch Next Week
@Smithicus
it was one of those games which was considered flawed as a game but had a lot of unique ideas and an interesting enough concept (along with making good use of its main character) that for some the flaws could be overlooked.
Does make me curious how the sequel would have fared if it was finished and released.
Re: N64 Platformer 'Glover' Is Getting Its First Patch On Switch Next Week
@NintendoBMA @Elbow
With legends i would much prefer it if it got a legacy collection like the other Megaman series games since not only would it mean that legends 2 and the tron bonne game could be included but it could also be on more platforms than if it was just on NSO (alongside the usual benefit of being able to keep the games)
Re: Sony Vet Shuhei Yoshida Says Nintendo Is "Losing Their Identity" With Switch 2
@Ogbert
Yeah definitely agree, PlayStation had a vibe to it, and while the vibe did change from the ps1/ps2 era to the psp/ps3/vita era those latter ones had their own vibe to them. i guess you could say the latter ps4 and current ps5 era is rather "vibe-less"
@larryisaman
Honestly for me im happy that switch (and switch 2's) "gimmick" is being able to play how you want for the most part since everyone has preferences in how they play games and when it came to looking back at wii it felt like for me there were a lot of times when the controls felt like more of a barrier of entry to enjoying some amazing games, for example i remember mario galaxy 1 and 2 for their creative level designs and how they used gravity rather than the parts where you had to point and shake the remote (if anything a lot of the heavy motion controlled segments were my least fave parts like the bird levels in 2)
@JohnnyMind
Yeah while i find the ps5 itself a fine system it does feel like a lot of the spark that previous sony systems had is gone and a lot of that has to do with less of the kinds of games mentioned.
honestly i miss sonys handheld systems, while they made some mistakes with vita (expensive memory cards, lack of support, no TV-out) i still found it one of my fave handhelds alongside the psp (heck they even had an early version of what would become known as the "hybrid" console idea popularised by the switch in the form of the psp-go "cradle")
Definitely wouldnt say no to a successor to those systems both as an additional option when it comes to dedicated handheld "consoles" (as opposed to the more portable PC like nature of steam deck and the like) but also competition is always good.
(wall-o-text ends)
Re: Mario Kart World Players Are Already Uncovering Hidden Vehicles
@AJWolfTill
Thats another i would love to see also, especially with the increased scale possible to show off some wicked rad jumps like weve never seen before (also wouldn't say no to excite truck)
Re: Review: Lunar Remastered Collection (Switch) - Two Of The Most Charming RPGs Ever Get A Fair, If Flawed, Port
@DonierGunad
one of the QOL things which i would love to see in vagrant story is being able to quickly swap between weapons since i remember playing through it you ended up with a bunch of weapons for different situations and iirc you had to go to the menu every time.
Re: Mario Kart World Players Are Already Uncovering Hidden Vehicles
@-wc-
Is this beloved series also known for being very fast? something they could flex that 120fps with too?
Re: Review: Lunar Remastered Collection (Switch) - Two Of The Most Charming RPGs Ever Get A Fair, If Flawed, Port
@Puddle
Visually something close to that Star ocean 2 remake only with full 3d camera in towns/dungeons i feel would work in xenogears since both used the 2d-sprites-on-polygonal-background look.
Re: Review: Lunar Remastered Collection (Switch) - Two Of The Most Charming RPGs Ever Get A Fair, If Flawed, Port
Really for me as long as the remasters dont introduce problems not in the originals like some do then im cool since really im just happy to have these games on switch and any additions are merely a bonus.
Battle speed up is nice though since i do remember the battles feeling somewhat slow in the original.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Survival Kids (GBC)
Europe/Japan one here for showing both kids, even if the way they are overlaid on the backdrop looks a bit off.
Both feature the little monkey fella so thats a plus on both.
Prefer both to the style they are going for with the rebirth since the 90s anime look i find more striking than the CG stuff on the reboot.
Re: Digital Foundry Digs Deep Into Mario Kart World's Tech And Specs
@N00BiSH
i guess some of it can come down to where they've been viewing the preview footage/screens along with the quality of said footage/screens themselves and it will become more apparent.
even then the real show-stopper is more that the game is both running 24 racers on the course at once and that the elements outside the course are now all interactive environments with collision and whatnot.
@KidSparta
Yeah it does feel like there is more to it, plus its not uncommon for a lot of the first party games to hide some pretty big elements from initial reveals and showcases.
@Anachronism
Yeah just looking at advertising from back in the day too it felt like if anything "graphics" were an even bigger push im sure you remember the "bit wars" or at least know or them, now they only exist in legend but i remember those days!
Re: Surprise, Palworld Dev Isn't Fond Of The 'Pokémon With Guns' Description
@JohnnyMind
Yeah while i understand how these are definitely pokemon like creatures with guns it does feel like the "pokemon with guns" label kind of gave some the idea that it was a gameplay description when from what i hear of it the game is more of a survival game (seen it compared to ARK as mentioned in the article) though havent seen too much of it so am unsure how much catching and fighting factor into the gameplay loop.
Re: "We MUST Resist Buying These Game-Key Releases", Says GamesMaster Host
@Ultimapunch
yeah while i would much prefer full physical i do feel like these are better than a code-in-a-box at the very least and can still be purchased if the game is delisted from the online store.
Re: Review: SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered (Switch) - A Solid Port Of A Great JRPG
@Pillowpants
a different composer so it has a very different feel to some of the others.
Re: Switch 2 Allows Players To Create Per-Game Controller Profiles
@OldManAdrius
I can understand the kind of thing you are talking about, some aspects of gaming people can have trouble with especially when it comes to controllers, whether it be a physical issue, one based on habit or something related to obsessive compulsive tendencies its always nice when there's options to potentially alleviate those issues.
i also know how quick people can jump on others when they have a specific issue with something, its like how you get people accusing others of "whining" or "nitpicking" over a problem like this.
@axelhander
yeah for me ideally extensive button mapping, including the ability to UNMAP certain things should be included in as much games as possible though it can feel like a crap-shoot on what can be changed with certain games especially on console, like a game will let you remap certain buttons but some features can only be mapped to certain buttons like triggers which some ones cant be changed, at the very least having system level button mapping is a good start and im happy that switch 2 seemed to change it to a game-by-game basis instead of just having presets.
Re: Opinion: A Few Too Many Questions & Unwelcome Surprises Are Taking The Shine Off The Switch 2 Reveal
@Banjo-
im feeling kind of mixed, on one hand a lot of it is what i was hoping for in a successor in that its a more powerful switch with other improvements, though im definitely hoping the price situation settles down.
was unsure about the whole "switch 2 edition" stuff though from what i gather it seems like a bunch of games will be getting free updates for games which dont have any new content (i think its where that Xenoblade X 60fps mode will come into play, i think a few other games are getting it including scarlet and violet though considering how deep some of the tech issues seemed to run in that im curious how much is fixable) though it would have been nice if it did the ps5 method as an option where something like kirby forgotten land you could get the performance upgrade free like other games and the extra stuff was DLC kind of like iirc what FFVII remake intergrade did (you could get the 60fps upgrade for FFVII remake and then buy the Yuffie chapter as DLC)
while not the biggest fan of the keycard stuff i actually feel like letting players manage licences with that whole virtual gamecard is a nice option alongside the usual "primary/secondary" console thing (looking back at the psn outage a while back on ps5 it seems like quite a few people even forgot to activate it as a primary system ) with a key point being that they are at least optional for those who preffer the primary/secondary console method using online.
again am hoping some of this stuff can be cleared up in the future though its a complex situation and im definitely not in the best mental state to even try and process some stuff lately (also partially why this message is so rambling)

Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Is Getting A Free Performance Upgrade On Switch 2
@dres
one game im curious to see how it handles dynamic stuff like fps and resolution is dragon quest builders 2 considering it aims for 60fps but starts to chug when you build large structures, will be interesting to see if it holds that 60fps better on switch 2 through virtue of hardware.
Re: Nintendo's Switch 2 'Game-Key Cards' Somehow Manage To Make Codes-In-A-Box Worse
@Thomystic
yeah while im not really a fan of this method it does seem like it at the very least still lets you play the game when offline after its downloaded like other digital games which is preferable to things like the NSO online-checks or cloud games.
Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Is Getting A Free Performance Upgrade On Switch 2
@SillyG
yeah i enjoy entering buildings in rpgs.
one of the things i would have loved to have seen improved in the series was more on the smaller scale, things like making interiors more distinct. sun and moon did feel like an okay balance in that regard in that while it had fewer houses than the older games it felt like nearly every building (outside of the pokemon centers) was unique.
Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Is Getting A Free Performance Upgrade On Switch 2
@Jack_Goetz
Xenoblade 2 in particular im hoping can get a boost especially with handheld mode.
Stepping out into the vast fields of Gormott definitely had a lot of the wonder sucked out when it was hard to make out stuff in the distance.
Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Is Getting A Free Performance Upgrade On Switch 2
@Justifier
im hoping that at most with some of the bigger expansions the price is closer to something like buying DLC of equivalent content.
Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct?
@Jarl76
yeah one of the things i feel makes a big difference with mario kart is while 8 looked absolutely stunning the sweeping landscapes themselves were backdrops so i imagine they wouldn't need to worry about things like collision detection or whatnot where's with world there looks to be a LOT of interactive elements such as grind rails and other stuff which needs to be accounted for.
While there were parts of the direct i wasn't the biggest fan of the system itself definitely feels like a major jump over the original switch when it comes to capabilities.
Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct?
Sort of in the middle.
Re: The Switch 2's Screen Isn't OLED, But It Will Support 1080p/120fps Gameplay
@OorWullie
It does kind of feel like while with home consoles theres been some diminishing returns, with handheld consoles it does feel like the jump is a lot more noticable, i remember picking up the vita back in 2012 and found the jump in visuals from consoles like the psp impressed me more than the ps3>ps4 jump, then going on from vita to switch and it looks like going from switch 1 to switch 2 will have the same effect, as you mentioned it will feel like a LEAP in terms of visuals.
Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade Is Making The Leap To Switch 2
@Diowine L
yeah does make me curious about the third game (and also rebirth) since having the full trilogy on a dedicated handheld console would be awesome.
@Truegamer79
With the first part of remake it wont take too long to finish but i can see rebirth taking an extremely long time to finish especially if going for everything since the scope is so much bigger, thats not even getting into the third game.
though for me i didnt regret my time with them (as frustrating as trying to 100% explore the gongaga region was)
@Joriss
for me i do find it easier to focus for longer periods of time on a handheld at least, its one of the reasons i held out on re:fantazio since it feels like a switch 2 release down the line would be a safe bet.
Re: Super Mario Party Jamboree Is Getting A Special Switch 2 Edition This July
@Dev-N
imagine if the choicest voice returns!
am also hoping the "upgrade" fee for these things wont end up being too much and will be closer to just buying DLC for a game.
Re: GameCube Games Confirmed For Nintendo Switch Online On Switch 2
@MaseSco
honestly im hoping skies of arcadia ends up getting the remaster treatment, basically having the gamecube content with the dreamcast audio quality in HD.
Both because it would also get the game out to more people since it would likely be multiplat alongside the advantage of being able to keep the game.
Re: Review: Croc: Legend Of The Gobbos (Switch) - A Solid, If Unspectacular Retro Adventure
@Not_Soos
i do remember finding the tank controls in croc easier to get used to than tomb raider since tomb raider kind of felt like a 3d equivalent of those "cinematic" platformers like Flashback where jumping was done in a very specific way, croc feels more like a regular 3d platformer with tank controls and as tank controls go i found them some of the easier ones to use with things like being able to quick-turn and whatnot.
i am curious to see how the modern controls feel since i remember it feeling like there were points in a level where tank controls felt surprisingly natural such as lining up some of the more tricky jumps, it felt more like the levels were built around the controls compared to something like Rascal (another psone platformer with tank controls) where iirc the tank controls were put in the game later as per request of the publisher or something like that while the levels and gameplay was designed without them.
Re: Rumour: GameCube Revival Planned For Nintendo Switch Online
@Truegamer79 @Ultimapunch
It does feel odd that outside of NSO theyve been making more attempts to help future-proof digital content such as virtual game cards offering another way to keep access to games offline outside of the usual "primary console" settings.
yet with the Legacy content it feels almost the opposite, while preferable to streaming since the games are being played natively, it being subscription-only can still cause issues such as games being delisted rendering them unplayable (wheres with eshop games people could still play them if they had bought them)
in other topics you would often see people comparing it to the likes of PS+ or gamepass but with those services games that are being played natively can be bought independent of the service (including the psone and ps2 games on PS+)
i do like the idea of legacy gaming content being made more available via official means and am not against the idea of the service existing since it does work for many people, all i wish is that it wasnt the only way to access many of these games on switch and that there was the ability to purchase as an option like with similar services.
Re: Review: Croc: Legend Of The Gobbos (Switch) - A Solid, If Unspectacular Retro Adventure
Really from what ive seen the only flaw with the remaster is that it uses the PC/saturn soundtrack which was missing quite a few music tracks.
though given how much care and love the devs have put into the package as a whole it wouldn't surprise me if they did end up adding the music down the line.
other than that its great to hear the remaster turned out well and am looking forward to replaying the game (replayed it a few years back on psone and still enjoyed it)
Re: Nintendo Shares New Image Of Switch 2 Ahead Of The Big Day
@-wc-
yeah it does feel like some games do feel like touchscreen would just be the perfect fit but oddly dont. while for the most part i preffer using buttons for menus and whatnot because im more used to it when it comes to things like creative tools such as the stage creator in smash i preffer the touch option.
if it is a mouse mode it would be good for things like Mario maker when in TV mode (since TV mode is more "social" and sometimes its fun to watch someone create or make a stage together) or something like as an option if square ends up doing something like putting FFXIV on it.
at least we will finally get more info soon.
Re: Nintendo Shares New Image Of Switch 2 Ahead Of The Big Day
@-wc-
I imagine handheld mode since tabletop mode and TV mode would work with a theoretical "mouse" mode.
though in handheld mode you would be able to use the touchscreen for anything which would require the (speculated) mouse feature.
to be fair though while its yet to be seen if the mouse mode is real i dont think the inability to use it in handheld mode would rule it out since after all not being able to use a feature in one of the modes didnt stop the touchscreen.
still only about a day or so until confirmation on whether it is a mouse.
