Nintendo has given a little peek at a brand new map coming to Splatoon 3 when the game splats onto Switch later this year, and it's one that's hidden under the game's main hub, Splatsville.
This underground area is known as the Undertow Spillway, an abandoned area underneath the city that's recently been renovated into a place perfect for Turf Wars. While metallic and grey throughout, stickers, overgrowing wildlife, and white writing are dotted throughout the area. And any paint you throw at your rivals and the ground pops against the more muted tones.
There are plenty of places where you can hide and gain advantages against your foes, and while the below clip doesn't show us any action, we get a good idea of what this new location will look like.
We'll probably get to see a few more stages before Splatoon 3's release on the 9th September, but there are plenty of other new things coming alongside some new weapons and stages. For one, it sounds like we might be able to have our own apartment in the game according to a tweet from Nintendo last month. We've also seen some brand new designs for the game's Octolings.
What do you think of the Undertow Spillway? Let us know your thoughts on Splatoon 3 in the comments!

I absolutely love how this looks, super impressed
Now THIS is what I'm talking about. I was worried the whole 'apocalyptic, grungy' aesthetic wouldn't be too well utilised since we had barely seen any stages with that kind of theming since arguably the first ever trailer. This ticks ALL of the boxes though and really does feel like something that could only be pulled off in 3, great stuff. Now whether it will stay a Wahoo World (great) or turn into a Goby Arena (garbage) by the time the game comes out remains to be seen.
This looks awesome, and the amount of love Nintendo have showed to this newish franchise is great, no wonder it sells so well.
I love the idea of underground stages this is sick
It’s a cool idea, just looks a little bare. Definitely prefer the splatoon 2 stages more so far
Can't wait to never play on this stage because of it never appearing on the stage rotation when I'm playing.
The lighting is so good, look at all those pillars in the background. Since the setting is far away from the other 2 games, here’s hoping for no returning stages in 3. Keep ‘em coming! (and waiting for the Direct)
Looks very carbon roller friendly…..how many days let’s goooooo🦑🦑🦑
It's masterful.
I'm into it. I like that they made the pillars out of glass for the stage. It looks awesome.
If anyone wasn't aware, the stage design is based on this.

Nice. Looks like short shooters could thrive there.. excellent
@Yosher Lately it does seem like Moray and Triggerfish are always in the rotation.
I really hope all the stages in Splatoon 3 are new. I realize a lot of people didn't that the original game because... Wii U. But for those of us who did, it was really lame how many stages in Splatoon 2 were recycled from the original.
Ooo I wonder if there'll be any flood mechanics on this stage? Periodically washing away the ink would be a great way of leveling the playing field if one team is dominating!
@Fizza Honestly I was also super scared that the new wasteland aesthetic was going to ruin it, considering both previous entries used the same 'Cool neon' aesthetic I guess, but this is actually looking good
@Otoemetry PLEASE NO DONT REMIND ME OF THAT STAGE 😭
@HoverPie do you mean the tropical resort one from the first game?
