E3 2021 is finally over, and we're still digesting the ins-and-outs of all the announcements. Nintendo's Direct presentation offered a little something for everyone, from the return of smaller-scale fan favourites to fresh peeks at Breath of the Wild 2 (no proper title yet, though), not to mention A NEW 2D METROID COMPLETELY OUT OF THE BLUE! Good times.
It's now time to unwind a little and discuss our weekend gaming plans. A few members of the Nintendo Life team have done just that below, so feel free to give our entries a read and then join in with your own via our comment section. Enjoy!

Editor's note: Don't like Metroid? Bit of a washout for you this week, I'm afraid. Sorry!...

With all the Metroid Dread hype going around – especially within the Nintendo Life team's online chats – a few of us have realised we'd like nothing more than to revisit Metroid 1 through 4 to get ready for the big release later this year.
As such, I'm hoping to get some time with the original Metroid this weekend and will be cracking out the trusty NES Classic to do just that. I've never played it before and fear that it'll crush me, so part of me wishes I had a copy of its GBA remake, Zero Mission, to give me a more gentle experience. Still, I'm looking forward to finally giving the series a fair shake!

I barely played any games over the past week, for obvious reasons, so I plan to return to Golf Story again. It's charming, funny and extremely chilled out to play. I'm also going to pick up FAR: Lone Sails in the sale; I've been meaning to play it and the excellent E3 reveal of its upcoming sequel was a timely reminder.
As for whizz-bang 4K gaming I'll try again to go back to Resident Evil: Village. It's also possible I'll get out the Wii U for some Metroid: Zero Mission; yes, like many others I'm planning a 'lore run' through the games, albeit the best version of each game.

Nintendo released a brand new Tetris 99 theme on Friday based around Miitopia so I'll of course have to spend a few rounds unlocking that — I'm not allowed to miss Tetris events otherwise the Tetris police come knocking.
I'm sure like others on the Nintendo Life team I've spent the entire week thinking about Metroid and I'm planning to replay the entire series. I actually finished the Famicom Disk System version of Metroid a few weeks ago so that's one crossed off, suppose it's time for Metroid II! I've played Samus Returns numerous times since it came out so this time I'll give some love to the Game Boy original.

E3 2021 came and went, with no news of the New Nintendo Switch in sight or everyone’s favourite Umbra Witch. Yet what was on display already saved the second half of this year for yours truly. Quite a few gems out on the eShop this week, especially if you’re a shmup fan: MushihimeSama is the first of several quality Cave shooters finally on the way to the Switch, Seicross remains a personal Nichibutsu favourite and Rangerdog is the best Parodius Konami never made. Dunk Lords wonderful Switch conversion puts NBA Playgrounds to shame from the get go. Hope to jump back into Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity for the new DLC content while continuing The Legend of Zelda: A Link To the Past live streaming sessions.
Game of the week is Wrestling Empire. Again. Unprecedented and commendable free post-game support from the legendary Mat Dickie ensure there is never a dull moment in or outside the ring.

This week I would mostly like to read the copy of Ask Iwata that's been sitting on my desk for weeks now, and another book unrelated to video games. That would be nice.
Also, catching up on the essential pre-Dread Metroid titles, of course:

Hello folks! Hope you're all well. So, own up… Who else is playing a bunch of Metroid games this weekend? Well, this guy definitely is! ['Metroid', you say? Is that some sort of Igavanialike? - Ed]
After the announcement of Metroid Dread, I've gone back to the GBA to play through both Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion. Once I'm done, I'll move onto Metroid: Samus Returns before finishing with Super Metroid. Yes, I know it's completely out of order… I know, okay?!
Other than that, my journey through the Halo campaigns is almost at its end. I'm at the start of the divisive Halo 5: Guardians (a good game, in my opinion, just not a good Halo game), so I reckon I can polish it off this weekend. Have a good one, all!

Hello. This weekend I’m gonna be blasting through a few different bits and pieces for review on Switch, including THQ’s revamped Destroy All Humans, but, if I manage to crowbar in a little chill time somewhere, I’ll be pulling out and dusting off all the old consoles and getting my emulators up and running for some retro Metroid action. I’m sure I’m not the only person planning to play through the series in chronological order in the wake of Metroid Dread’s surprise E3 reveal (and I may have got a little overexcited during that amazing trailer), I just wish the whole lot were more readily accessible on the current crop of Nintendo consoles to save me digging around in my absolute shambles of an attic.
Have a good weekend whatever you’re up to or playing!

This week I have been playing A TON of The House In Fata Morgana, and here's a sneak preview: I just got one of the eight endings. I think it's one of the "you messed up" endings, though, so there's a lot more game to get through.
I've also been playing Subnautica for the first time, after getting scared away when it first launched because all the fish tried to eat me, and it's pretty bloody great. Also, Chicory! I really hope Chicory comes to Switch some day!
Zion Grassl, video producer
After about 35 hours with the Paper Mario-esque Bug Fables, I finally finished off its final chapter earlier this week. So I was pretty pumped to flip through my backlog this weekend and pick something new to play, but with the way E3 swayed my heart, I’m pretty sure I just added more games to the pile. With the announcement and all of the hype surrounding Metroid Dread, I figured it’s finally time to give this series a shot!
Thankfully I already have Metroid: Samus Returns on my stack of shame, and I really haven’t played many of the other 2D Metroid games (I know, right?), so obviously I have to start with Zero Mission. I booted it up the other day and am making decent progress. However, I found out the hard way that the save battery in my cartridge is dead, so I’m keeping my GBA SP plugged in until Mother Brain bites the bullet!
As always, thanks for reading! Make sure to leave us a comment below with your gaming choices over the next few days...

Ghost of Tsushima.
Waiting for Mario Golf.
Data East Collection and Megacat Studios Collection on my Evercade.
1. Assassin's Creed 3 on the Switch
2. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
3. Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance
Mario + Rabbids
BotW (Korok hunting)
Age of Calamity DLC
Bayonetta 2
If I’ve been given the gift of time.
Miitopia and New Pokémon Snap mostly. I’m also playing Tetris 99 for my two daily offline tickets (I have the physical edition but no NSO subscription) to unlock the two remaining themes, and I’ll likely keep hoarding maybe 120 tickets or so for when they inevitably make the other themes available with standard tickets (including the Miitopia one making the rounds this weekend).
I also played and since finished Kuukiyomi: Consider It 3. These games are so brief, but so out of left field that I can’t help but nab each one (albeit on sale).
I’ve also been meaning to complete the rest of the Game Builder Garage tutorials but they bore me to sleep (really!) with the endless waffling.
And I’ll try to get around to completing Abzû pretty soon as I understand that it’s a fairly short game, and it would be nice to etch the tiniest of dents in my backlog.
Taking a break from the MHR grind finally, and dipping into some Indies - Astalon and Coffee Talk. Possibly also booting up Drac X Chron on Vita, as Astalon is making me crave even more Castlevania action.
For anyone who enjoyed Curse of the Moon, or NES Castlevania, I highly recommend Astalon. It does have some rogue lite to it, but like Hades, death is sorta tied to the story, plus every time you die you can spend your Soul Orbs (xp) on leveling up stats / gaining new skills. And like Curse of the Moon, there are multiple characters to play as.
Oh, and almost forgot, working on Famicom Detective series too in between the others.
Ratchet and Clank and axe attorney
New Pokémon Snap
And continuing my Village of Shadows run in RE8
Luigi M 3, Super metroid, DBZ xeno.
Went back to finish off all the Challenges in Mario + Rabbids.
Then played Metroid Fusion on WiiU VC.
Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate
Not much video game time for me this weekend. Played a bit of Doom 2 just now, and picked up Limbo in the sale so might give that a spin. Other than that, trying to fight my Slay the Spire addiction on ipad.
This week I will be mostly playing
Pokémon Black
Age of Calamity
Indeed, it's time to visit Tetris 99 once again... as I always (and, mea culpa, only) do when they have a new crossover theme to unlock. Might drop by SMBU's spirit event, too. Otherwise, stuff from the familiar Terraria, Xenoblade 2 and Starlink to the recently acquired CyberTaxi, Hyperspace Delivery Service and Vampire's Fall: Origins. On other platforms, odds of more Endless Frontier, God Eater and Ace Attorney as well as a potential variety of PC backlog items from Assasin's Creed and Witcher to FFXIII and Just Cause.
I also just got bitten by Yu-Gi-Oh bug again, so I might squeeze in a couple story duels in Legacy of the Duelist, a couple mop-up duels in Nightmare Troubadour (story long finished, but I still seem to be missing almost half the recipes, and the card list is stuck at 99% with all the packs complete - or is it some password-locked "distribution" stuff left and I'm not meant to collect it normally at all?) and even a taste of Duel Links on mobile.
Zack and wiki (wii) - I’m finishing up the final 3 levels. After that I’ve beaten and ranked 99 games since 2017 and will play a special games that won through a vote as my 100th game.
Legends of heroes: trails in the sky (pc) - as my 100th game I’m gonna play this after it won in a vote on a discord server I’m in. Excited to play it.
Uncharted 2 (ps4/5) - probably gonna play this as game 101.
Metal slug anthology/MS:XX (psp) - ordered these and I’m excited to replay them.
Probably more Super Animal Royale (which would be a great fit on switch) and Outriders. I will also put switch on charge ready for Mario Golf, so will probably end up playing something that grabs my attention off of the E-shop.
I'm finishing up my Game Builder training and I'm going to start making my first game this weekend. Stay tuned!
Mushihimesama!
Glad to see Goncalo Lopez give it a mention. I expect Damien Feran is probably playing it too?
By the way, I think a fun video would be to get Alex and John to play Mushihimesama on Ultra and see their reactions.
Final Fantasy XII for me mostly.
But I’ve finally got downloads working again (dns trick) so I might try out the Ys IX demo, the new Samurai Shodown DLC character and Pac-Man 99 too.
I played these games for this weekend. 🤓

1. The Sims 4 PS4
2. Yonder The Cloud Catcher Chronicles PS4
3. Yokai Watch 3 Tempura 3DS
I continued my progress of The Sims 4 PS4 to see my muscular dudes i have created. 😁
I played a little bit Yonder The Cloud Catcher Chronicles PS4 and have unlocked 1 Sprite from a stone monument.
I keep playing Yokai Watch 3 Tempura 3DS and have accumulated more than 110 hours gameplay. The reason i keep playing this game because i have fallen in love with this Merican Yokai Damajor Nine (Slugger).

He is a handsome muscular Baseball player Yokai. 😍

I put him as my main team as leader and his level already lv. 68
Ooooh...!!!!
Just now i got KK Brothers (Koma Knomads) after completing a sub quest. 😃
I'm going to finish Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D this weekend and then start a 2D Metroid series replay (what a novel idea!). I've never made any real progress in the original game before so I'll download Zero Mission on my Wii U and finally see what Samus's first adventure is like.
Also I've nearly finished Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition. But not quite. It's very long.
Just finished the final boss in Salt and Sanctuary this morning.
Later I'll be playing Dragon Quest XI.
I'll probably play the whole Metroid 2D series as well XD. I beat Zero Mission not long ago, so I guess I'd go to revisit Samus Returns, then Super Metroid, and finally Fusion.
However, I was also playing the entire Zelda 2D saga too, and after the first one, ALttP and Link's Awakening remake, I'm now half way through Oracle of Ages, and ready for some Minish Cup love (and ALBW, of course).
I guess this will be a year focused on Zelda & Metroid XD. Not a problem!
Probably mostly Animal Crossing and Doom Eternal.
Oh wow, I got reminded of Metroid Prime Federation Force yesterday too, had on the old 2015 E3 event.
This weekend, planning to play World of Tanks Blitz because the game gave me three days of premium for free, and maybe Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 and some Doom Eternal. On the PC side of things, Mirror's Edge.
I want to try to get around to playing these, I may play a few other games in addition to these. I have Sonic Battle on my mind.
Hope everyone has a great weekend and has fun playing their games.
Metroid marathon! I'll be playing the whole series Prime and other m included. Obviously that'll take more than a weekend but I've got until october for Metroid dread so that's plenty of time.
Still enjoying Ori and the will of the wisps. Returning to Age of Calamity for DLC. Played it a bit already and there’s a ton of new content to get stuck into.
Unfortunately no time for games until Sunday evening then a blast thru streets of rage 2 on easy, skate character xxx
I have no idea! I’m unsure what to do with my weekend tbh an it’s already started. I’ve just been wandering around in Breath of the Wild trying to get the Hinoxes and Taluses I missed for Kilton’s (so?) medal thing. Aimless wandering definitely fits the theme of this weekend.
Age of Calamity for the Switch and some XB1 stuff like Halo 5. Wave 1 of the Age of Calamity expansion pass seems to have a fair amount of content meanwhile with XB1, I'd guess Halo 5 activity plummets after Halo Infinite launches so enjoy Halo 5 multiplayer while it lasts.
I'm thinking about finally entering the world of Kingdom Hearts but I still have to finish Bravely Default Second End Layer and Hyrule Warriors: DE...
Gonna play some more Yakuza (started recently on the Xbox) and Dragon Quest Heroes though.
Treated myself to these two yesterday as a reward for meeting some goals in my personal life this week despite a lot of anxiety around them! Will be mostly playing them and Horizon Chase Turbo.
BTW UK gamers, Tetris VS Puyo Puyo 2 physical is on sale at Amazon for £21.99 atm and £24.99 in GAME.
Just received Miitopia for my Birthday today!
So I imagine I'll be playing that most of the weekend, with maybe a side of Super Metroid to celebrate the announcement of Dread~
Going to finally finish Steamworld Quest then replay Super Metroid for the first time in a while
All about Mass Effect for me this weekend. I have just preordered both Metroid Dread and Shin Megami Tensei V though. Can't wait for those. Have a good one folks!
Going to play some more Samus Returns I think.
Never seem to really get it going even though I'm actually enjoying it quite a lot. It's a bit weird, but probably down to the gameplay being a bit complex (with map, different abilities unlocking and so on).
Sakuna: of Rice and Ruin is my main game at the moment, but I'll probably dip into a lot of other games just to see them. I mean that literally, since I just had cataract surgery. This not only fixed my near blindness but has given me perfect vision (in one eye) for the first time in my entire life. It was mindblowing seeing Sakuna the first time after surgery, and now I want to see ALL THE GAMES!
Metroid Zero Mission, am lost trying to find the power bomb, it's not a Metroid game if you don't get lost occasionally. Think I've almost finished the game so Super Metroid will be next.
Also Kaze and the Wild Masks now as I've managed to get the update to download after clicking the continue button about 15 times. Fancy some MK8 Deluxe too.
I picked up Mario+rabbids on sale and can’t put it down. Seriously a top 5 switch game(gameplay-wise at least)
@JasmineDragon Congratulations on your successful surgery: enjoy seeing every thing that you see!
Not a whole lot, as I'm waiting for Mario Golf next week. I did beat Okami HD this week, so now I'm just puttering with small games for now, like Pure Pool and my Arcade 1ups.
Well I tried going back and playing Super Metroid after Tuesdays big reveal. It's such a great game in so many ways that I hardly believe anyone would have much negative to say if it released today! My one hang up, and the reason I've never finished it is that I cannot wall jump, I've tried for hours and I just can't do it.
So instead this weekend it's back to Resident Evil 4 and finally wrapping up Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story! Wish me luck friends!
A little bit of everything: ACNH, Never Yield, Need for Speed, Rocket League, Travel Mosaics.
My daughter and I are playing ibb and obb, on sale, so far a fun co op platformer, great visuals, interesting puzzles.
Downloaded the Immortals Fynex demo: wow, I want this game, but do I want to pay the price, and do I want to continually compare it to BotW. It seems like a lot of fun.
Speaking of downloads, any one else still having problems downloading? I did a chat with Nintendo support, and after a full reset and multiple tries, I finally downloaded a game, but it was a hassle. Just curious . . .
Happy gaming everyone!
Swapping between SMT3, American Fugitive, World Of Final Fantasy Maxima and Saints Row 3 thanks to some great e-shop discounts
Grid Autosport and Sayonara Wild Heart. Let's go!!!
Gonna be playing SMT IV and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle this weekend.
Might do some Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
I'm playing the waiting game... for Metroid Dread.
Doodle God (Windows Phone) - Almost done with this, had a blast playing it!
Battleship (Windows Phone) - I like playing this digitally, there are less plastic pieces to step on
Lines: The Game (Windows Phone) - Still making progress with this as well.
Crazy taxi
Mario kart tour
Inbetween the Exeter Chiefs and Bristol Bears matches and walking the dog......Hyrule Warriors AOC, Sonic the Hedgehog (sega ages), AC and TMNT in time on my beloved SNES. Apart from the England result, happy daze
I'm playing dead.
Still MH Risez finishing up the 5 stars
I've mainly been playing Final Fantasy X-2! So far so good! I've also been trying to finish super Mario Galaxy because it's been months since I started it lol.
AI the somnium files , snowrunner, minecrash dungeons because it always crash and need 4 speed .
Definitely on Age of Calamity DLC, and just bought a zero mission cart online so I guess I'm really main stream at the moment. Finished indie title Heaven's Vault this week
I started Metroid: Zero Mission the other day as a lot of folks did I'm sure. Currently about to fight Ridley. And yes, I plan to play all the 2D games in chronological order.
I returned to Animal Crossing: New Horizons just over a week ago, I'm just pottering around everyday slowly paying off my house, just one more upgrade to go. Also today I finally got K.K. Slider to visit for his concert and saw the credits. Nice. Though it's really just the beginning now I can renovate my Island proper.
Got the new theme in Tetris 99 and earned enough tickets to purchase the only one I was missing.
Also started the extra story recently in Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, feels good to jump back into this beautiful game. I so love the soundtrack, so relaxing.
Final Fantasy IX on PC, mostly.
Still having a blast with Metroid Fusion
Completing the first game of the Ace Attorney trilogy is my main priority. Last case is very strange. Then back to Octopath Traveler to clear the last chapters. Maybe some MH Generations.
Started Metro Exodus yesterday after the PS5 upgrade dropped. The game already looked good on my One X a year or so ago (but I didn't finish it) and now it's gorgeous looking and controls so well with Ray Tracing and 60fps. I'll definitely finish it this time.
I'm also playing Judgment on PS5 which I am really enjoying.
Haven't played Switch much this past week or so but I am slowly playing through Xenoblade Chronicles.
I also started playing GTA Liberty City Stories on my PS Vita. Such a great GTA game and it still looks good.
@dugan Thanks, I appreciate the sentiment! Definitely enjoying everything.
Breath of the Wild. I bought the expansion pack this weekend as it was on sale.
And yes, it feels great to return to Hyrule again!
New Pokémon Snap (completing all stars for all Pokémons)
Crash Bandicoot: It's About Time on PS4
@SouthpawGrammar
“Axe Attorney” 😄
Sounds like a character from Judge Dredd!
Monster Hunter Rise and maybe some Capcom Arcade games.
Good to see I'm not the only one bit by the Metroid bug here. I've gotten pretty far in Samus Returns, but I've always gotten distracted before actually beating it (both in GB or 3DS)
Just bought Metroid: Samus Returns last night and I am really enjoying it! Decided to get it because of the Dread hype!
I had myself a Nintendo fan boy day on the beach this past Tuesday! Between the direct and finishing the Ask Iwata memoir, amazing is an understatement.
I’m also still grinding through Monster Hunter Rise. I gave a fair shot to Game Builder Garage and Bioshock this week but they didn’t keep my attention. Rise until the Stories 2 demo comes out!
Wow I guess I’m not the only one inspired to go back and play some Metroid! 😊
I’ll probably dabble with Metroid or Super Metroid on NSO in the near future.
For now, I’m still enjoying Subnautica and happy to hear friendly @KateGray is “diving in” now, too! Maybe she or somebody can tell me where to find Prawn Suit parts bc I’ve been searching ocean-wide for them to no avail.
Also playing some The Flame in the Flood on the side, and that game has some legit great folksy blues music in it!! To the point where I feel guilty for paying so little for it in a recent sale! 😓
@JasmineDragon
It makes me so happy to read your update! It’s wonderful to hear things went well 😊
There’s so many beautiful sights to enjoy in these games we play... a butterfly-filled cavern in Hollow Knight comes to mind for me.
Enjoy! 🌈💖
Rune Factory 5. So good.
I'm just playing through Dragon Quest 11 in an attempt to get it finished up before Tony Hawk and Mario Golf come out later this month.
I've been waiting for a sale on Strife: Veteran Edition and it finally happened. I wanted it on Switch for that wonderful gyro aiming Switch is known for, and it was worth the wait. I'm only about 1/4 of the way through it, but this game was clearly ahead of its time (originally released in 1996), and extremely interesting as a fan of FPS/RPGs and immersive sims. Can't wait to play more!
MonsterHunter Rise!
Given Nintendo's E3 Direct has come and gone, as well as how hyped I am for Metroid Dread, I've started playing through Super Metroid once again. Outside of that, both Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and of course Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD will get some love as well. I'll also probably play some more New Pokemon Snap, while I'm at it.
nothing.
I decided to take a short break from playing video games. Instead, I will spend more time with my grandfather and read Proust, which I love to do every summer.
Restarted Rune Factory 4 on the N2DSXL. Biding time til RF5 release.
Playing Pure Pool as I wait for my copy of Game Builder Garage.
I’ve played Super Metroid and Axiom Verge somewhat recently, so I am good on Metroidvanias.
Still working on Rift Apart as I have barely had time to play games. Will I be able to get through that, INTERmission, and Chicory before Mario Golf or have I begun rebuilding a backlog?
Wish they would have released Zero Mission for the 3DS E shop.... Then i would have all 4 2D metroid games on my 3DS (even have the GB version of Metroid 2) ..... Oh well. Have it on wii u
@sorethroat Last week the weather here was amazing, so I also spent a lot more time just being with my friends and family (visitors and the dogs I live with, just being together outside in my forest here). That's what life is all about.
Now the weather is less inviting, so it's back to some Nintendo life...
Ruiner and that Persona 5 game on Switch, I always forget if it's S, Strikers, Scramble,...
And sadly, the real life struggle for my real freedom.
I bought 3 games on sale yesterday.
Alien Isolation
Metro Last Light
Contra Rogue Corps
Yep, Contra Rogue Corps. I'm playing it now as it happens and as I suspected I would, I'm enjoying it. It's quite possibly the ugliest game I've ever played but the awful graphics kind of add to its charm. I got it for under 3 quid on the Russian Eshop. At that price it's an easy recommendation.
So I'll be playing Contra RC, Mushihimesama, Hotshot Racing, Crysis and some Rocket League. Alien and Metro I'll save for later.
I had a VERY busy week between work, E3, appointments, and life in general, so not a ton of gaming unfortunately. Currently playing:
Switch: The World Ends With You: Final Remix - Currently on Day 5, Week 2. This game is weird. But a good weird. Definitely invested into the plot now.
3DS: Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia - In the final stretch of Act 5. Pretty sure I just have the final battle to go. Wish me luck!
Have a great weekend! Stay safe, and happy gaming!
Playing Smash, Celeste and Minecraft
Tetris 99 and Dragon Ball Fighter Z
@HannahRPG
Happy Birthday! 🎉🎂
I hope you enjoy Miitopia and have a fun weekend!
Metroid Samus returns and super metroid
Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart & Dragon Quest VIII (3ds)
Probably just Monster Hunter Rise.
I gave a thumbs up to all you cool cats and kittens who are jumping on Mario + Rabbids. That game is fantastic and the sequel is my game of E3.
Sighs and looks longingly at 2022
I started Metroid: Samus Returns (3DS) a couple weeks ago in between other things. I have been playing it more consistently and will be continuing with it. Now it is even more relevant with Dread coming out in the fall!
I’ll probably also end up playing something on the Virtual Console in the Wii U I bought for my kids to give to me for Father’s Day and my birthday. 😁. It also came with a physical copy of Mario Party 10 from the previous owner so I may try that with the kids even though I have heard it is not necessarily that great of an entry in the series. The last Mario Party game I played was rented from blockbuster for the N64 in the 90s.
Started 999 this morning. Only fooled around with it for 20min or so, but I am definitely going to play more. I really like going back through the gems of the DS library.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Asha in Monster World. If the weekend not end yet then I'll probably play a few hours of the Takeover.
@Tyranexx
Man I loved Shadows of Valentia. I was hoping to see another Fire Emblem Echoes title at E3
Tetris 99 to get the Miitopia board (though I couldn't care less about Miitopia, I love collecting the boards.)
Final Fantasy VII. No wonder the PlayStation dominated the N64. This is a classic, though I think I still prefer VI in the series.
Bloodstaind: Ritual of the Night. It runs on the Switch now and is a ton of fun.
Streets of Rage 4. What a fun beat 'em up!
Not Tonight is 90% off so I'll be playing that.
Mario Kart 8 with my cousin online, Doom Eternal The Ancient Gods Part One (I already completed it, but I need to grab one more collectible from one of the levels. Amazing expansion, insanely difficult), Super Metroid and Smash Bros.
Mostly samus returns. But I'll also be playing loads of little stuff like namco museum, NBA jam, and who knows what else I'll dabble in.
With Metroid 5 on the way, I'm playing through the series again. I'm playing Zero Mission on GBA, Super on NSO, and Returns and Fusion on 3DS. It's such a amazing series. I'm pretty excited for Dread
I'm also playing Super Monkey Ball 2 at home on GameCube.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Playing FF7 Remake but I do plan to play the metroids and paused for a few hours to run through Zero Mission. Was shorter than I remember it being. Debating whether to replay Samus Return (finished it 18 months ago) or go straight on to Super Metroid which Ive still never completed. Will then do fusion if course.
I finished Yoku's Island Express a few days ago, now I'm just filling out the map and cleaning up a couple side quests. Unexpectedly one of my favourite games I've played recently, and it's often steeply discounted on the e shop. Other than that I'm looking forward to starting Golf Story today
Thought about getting Sonic Mania on the eshop sale, but it is free on Epic Games next week so I'll wait for that. Usual Splatoon 2 for me this weekend in between watching the Euros and Copa America.
Have a good weekend everyone.
I started Return of the Obra Dinn last week, but I need a good chunk of uninterrupted time to sit down and fully understand what is happening in that game, which I don’t have this weekend. Rivals of Aether sunk its hooks into me, so I’ll probably be dipping in and out of that. Happy weekend, everyone!
@Teksetter Thanks for the thoughts! Hollow Knight is definitely a game I want to revisit now that I can see properly.
Mushihimesama, and while the TV is in tate i might as well play some Crimzon Clover, too.
Strange Brigade with the family and friends, my New Game+ run on Switcher 3 when I need some sword-swinging, and Subnautica for my quieter moments.
Strange Brigade fills a much-needed gap in the Swifch library as a fun, competent, and extremely varied third person shooter. The campiness and mix of Goonies / Indians Jones / Living Dead is right up my alley and the performance is top-notch on the switch.
No complaints about load times or visuals. Controls are snappy and the gyro aiming is great if a little restrictive.
I’m happy to put down money for a pay-once, keep playing multiplayer experience like this over live subscription games any day.
Yes, I had the same idea as everyone else after seeing the Metroid Dread reveal. I am going back through the main series, starting with Zero Mission (I played through the original NES game a few months ago).
Besides that, I am playing:
Dragon Quest 6 (DS)
Dragon Quest 11s (Switch)
Soul Calibur 6 (PS4)
ratchet and clank rift apart. mlb 21 the show
I'm mainly going to continue my playthrough of Dragon Quest XI S. I have 4 out of 6 of the orbs I need to go to Yggdrasil, so I'd going to aim to collect the last two this weekend!
Currently playing The Touryst. Not a bad little game so far.
Started Advance Wars on the GBA again, this game is so good. Can't wait for the remake on the switch.
I've been playing my NES Classic, as well as No More Heroes 2.
@Silly_G How is Snap 2? Is it fun?
Story of Seasons, mushihimesama and the messenger for me. Plan on mostly reading and writing today. Bought a bunch of games in the e3 sale but I have to work tomorrow so...still should be a nice Juneteenth weekend.
@Classic603 I reached the end credits just a little while ago. VERY decent Fire Emblem entry, probably one of my favorite to date! Its differences from most other FE entries are a strength for the most part. I just wish so many didn't overlook it (and other 3DS gems, such as Ever Oasis and Metroid: Samus Returns) since it released a few months after the Switch hit shelves.
@Tyranexx
I loved the return to roots, taking out the waifu styling lol
Working working working working working, I've set my PS5 up and transferred data from my PS4, working working working working.
I got Tonic Trouble for the N64 in the last few days so at least that.
ZERO MISSION! - except I don’t have a ds charger and my ds ran out of battery… so I turned to axiom verge to scratch the itch. Back to kicking Metroid butt on Monday when the cable turns up!
Mass Effect. Never played the originals, going through Legendary Edition with Renegade Femshep.
Trying to beat super Metroid and breath of the wild before October
Subnautica: Below Zero. I just completed the first Subnautica a couple weeks ago, and it was incredible. These have quickly become some of my favorite games. Highly recommended!
@Tempestryke : A lot more so than I thought it would have been. I hadn’t started playing it until a few weeks after buying the game on launch day as I suspected it would have been the sort of game that I would only play sporadically over a long period of time, but I gave it a try and found myself drawn in enough to typically play for an hour or two at a time (having since clocked in around 18 hours, and I haven’t seen the end credits yet, though to be fair, I have been taking my time with the game, and the final map[s] are in sight).
There are day and night versions of some routes, and each route typically has up to three levels. You can go back and play previous levels, but there is usually little reason to do so as the higher levels include more behaviours, additional Pokémon, and sometimes an alternate route. Routes will typically play out the same way each time, but you gradually unlock abilities that allow you to harness the full potential of each route (such as the ability to toss fruit, glowing crystals that cause Pokémon to behave differently and/or attract them to specific locations, and later, to speed up the course at your leisure).
It’s a really nice looking game (it’s a bit of a battery hog in handheld) with quite a bit of replay value, and I would recommend not spoiling yourself with gameplay footage. I won’t spoil anything, but the boss-like stages are rather tedious though as they usually only contain a small handful of Pokémon and they tend to take a little too long to gain any momentum, but that’s a relatively minor gripe.
Finally, photo storage is pretty generous, and the game will prompt you to expand your storage when you are at near capacity (by permanently increasing the size of your save data) should you wish to do so. File sizes are pretty hefty though, so multiple user accounts may not be practical for families sharing a single console. The default size is 503MB, but mine is currently at 1GB, and I don’t know yet whether it can be expanded beyond that.
It’s a breezy paced game and won’t be for everyone, but it’s so full of charm and a surprisingly amount of detail that I think that even those in doubt will be won over. I give it a hearty recommendation.
I'm really enjoying Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart alot, this and re village are for sure my goty on ps5 this year
Also still playing ocarina of time
If there's some time left i'll play some mario kart 8 online and a switch between Super Mario Galaxy and snes Mario all stars
I managed to platinum Mass Effect 3 Legendary Edition and i just now wrapped up and platinum’d Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart.
Both fantastic games.
Next up I’m going retro playing Metroid : Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion on the WiiU - never played those in the 2D series, in anticipation for Metroid Dread.
Been playing Zoda's Revenge on the NES today as well as Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 on the SNES. It wasn't exactly planned. In fact I had planned something very much the opposite: Crisis Force and Fire Emblem 4.
@Silly_G Oh cool, thank you for the well detailed description.
@Donutsavant I have a hard time with wall jump too. Space jump is much easier and intuitive.
Mushihimesama
I'm playing the Game Builder Garage demo for now but am hoping to get back to Star Ocean:FD R soon before I suffer from memory erosion lol-- I'm just past halfway with it, and it's high time I go hard on my characters' skills and final party for endgame.
@Classic603 I'm mixed on the marriage/children mechanics. I didn't really mind it in Awakening as it sort of made sense from a story perspective, but it seemed really out of place in Fates.
@JasmineDragon that’s lovely, congratulations on your successful surgery
1. BOTW
2. Mario Rabbids
Been carrying on with my first ever Metroid playthrough on the NES online service. I have all the power-ups now and just beat Kraid, so it will be on to Ridley tomorrow.
I've also just bought Ring Fit Adventure, so I did my first world this evening - it's a pretty good workout for a couch potato like me and I'm hoping it will help me get out of my current lack-of-fitness rut.
Finally, I downloaded the Trials of Mana demo to see whether I want to take advantage of the current sale on that one. It's promising so far, and the music alone is gorgeous, so I suspect I will bite on the sale.
Non-Switch-wise, I've been playing the original Suikoden on my Vita and I really need to get back to my Horizon: Zero Dawn playthrough...
@Tyranexx
Yeah I completely agree. I really enjoyed it in Awakening, it felt more natural. In Fates it felt awkward and like it was creepy fan service. But I only played through Fates once, maybe it's better than I'm remembering
Mario Kart 8. Been trying time trials and getting progressively worse. Then online and…yeah. 😐
Also: Rabbids > Rayman
Playing Metro Last Light Redux (eshop bargain) and Pikmin 3 Deluxe this weekend.
@Classic603 I played through both main branches of Fates but never bothered with Revelation. While some of the child units are indeed amazing (depending on the pairing), the whole pocket realm thing was not a good way to explain it all. My Castle in general had a few uses, but a lot of it felt like an unnecessary extra.
Got my daughter ACNH and she’s diving into it, which got me back on mine. Three months away was nice, now I’m excited about playing it again.
Crysis
TSA
And maybe some Splatoon 2.
I've been playing some Octopath Traveler recently, and, yeah, it's great. I don't know why I waited so long! Cookie Clicker too, as it's not something you really 'beat'.
I will be playing New Pokemon Snap! 65 hours in and haven't stopped enjoying it!
It's my birthday today and father's day tomorrow so I will be playing the games my kids and wife got me; GHOST OF TSUSHIMA on PS5 and LUIGI'S MANSION 3. Both of these games have been on my must-play list for a while now.
@TheHumbleSavage
I have four Rabbids Wii games (Raving Rabbids 1 & 2, TV Party, Go Home).
They are indeed ugly, crazy and annoying but their games are kinda interesting.
@Dm9982 never heard of astalon but now i wanna try it
@Pickledkong64 I saw it pop up on “Coming Soon” on eshop, and it looked interesting. Checked reviews when it came out and largely they were around 80% / 8/10 or above that, so I gave it a chance and bought it on a whim. Def not disappointed! Are there better MV style games on eshop? Sure. But few do a Curse of the Moon look and mechanics, even fewer do it nearly as close to CotM. DanGen was def channeling IGA when they made and designed it.
It does have a rogue lite aspect to it, but it’s nowhere near as harsh as most rogues. More in line with standard NES difficulty, aka you’ll probably die a few times before ya make it to and beat the first boss. But thankfully there are some modern QoL stuff, like warp points to get you right back to that boss.
It can be difficult clearing the path to the boss, and unlike CV titles, save points do not restore your health, but serve as a point where you can continue if you need to stop playing. They also serve as story points if you eat a meal - the save points are Campsites.
I finally got around to Thomas Was Alone, and not surprisingly, I'm loving every minute of it!
I just finished Super Metroid on NSO (I've been playing intermittently since January), but now we have news about Dread, I've been thinking of playing the other entries in the series. But I think I'll have to go to emulate them, the only place in my city I've seen GBA cartridges they don't have any Metroid ones and import them would be too expensive for me t.t
Nonetheless, since it's Father's Day, I'm pretty sure I'll be mostly playing Clubhouse Games and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with my family.
@hyperballad Yeah, I feel like Nintendo really missed a trick there... if they'd had a collection of the first four Metroid games ready to go as a shadow drop on the eStore when Dread was announced, it would basically have been a license to print money for all of us who missed out on getting one or two of them at the time.
every 2-3 months i get into a mood where i only can get into zelda games, and well it is here. playing BOTW now but considering majoras mask or ocarina both on 3ds
@AmplifyMJ Thank you, I'm loving my life right now!
So far just Mario+Rabbids. But think I might mix it up with some Thumper, Yooka-Laylee, and/or Hollow Knight tonight.
I bought the Castlevania Collection during the last sale and am now at the final boss of the first game. I'm also revisiting Cadence of Hyrule and am playing some Griftlands.
Raging Loop and gonna start Batbarian. Plus Hearthstone.
I stormed through Zero Mission on my Wii U on Thursday and Friday.
Saturday was my move, so I had to put the video games away until everything is in its new home.
Onward to Metroid Prime! Hoping to replay the entire series before October.
@Teksetter I found aaaaall the Prawn Suit parts in one place... and I'm sorry to tell you it's the big explodey spaceship in the middle of the sea!
@KateGray
Thank you for the schoolyard tip!
If you mean the wrecked mothership Endeavor, I'm worried because I never explored it before it exploded! I floated all around it in my radiation suit afterward hoping to find an entrance, but no luck. I'll do a more careful check the next time I play.
I'm afraid I'm quite stuck without that prawn suit - I can get down to 1300m in my cyclops, but it's HUGE and hard to pilot.
Hopefully I won't have to restart the game! I almost wouldn't mind, though, now that I'm more familiar with it.
@Teksetter it did explode, but go to the front and you'll be able to get in the wreckage! I didn't explore until it exploded either. Just make sure to have your radiation suit on
@KateGray
I finally went back to the Aurora (during the daytime for a change, duh) and promptly found the big area you told me of. Found the Prawn Suit plans, a cool kitten poster, a motherlode of batteries, and even shut down the radiation leak! What a game changer!! Stygian depths, here I come!
Makes me wish I was more thorough earlier in the game. (@_@);;
Thank you once again!
@Teksetter Glad I could help! I haven't got much further than that point, and I don't have the Cyclops, either... so good luck
@KateGray
Good luck and happy swimming to you, too! If you find time to keep going in the game and ever get stuck, don’t hesitate to drop me a line. I’m no Nintendo Game Counselor and certainly can’t compete with google, but I’d be happy to try & return the game tip favor. 😁
