Unless you've been living on a deserted island for the past four years (hey, lucky you — wish you'd stayed there now, right?), it's hard to miss how Switch has taken Nintendo back to the sort of mainstream success is achieved with the Wii two console generations ago. Wii U might have bombed commercially (although it had a pretty spectacular library of games), but its hybrid successor has put Nintendo back on top, attracting the most talented developers and the biggest names in the industry to put games on the console.
However, there remain some famous franchises and luminary studios that haven't come to Switch yet. No, we're not talking about ports from PC developers or mobile gaming giants bringing unlikely ports of their world-conquering MOBAs and clickers; rather, devs and publishers with a storied console history — which includes Nintendo systems — that haven't showed up to the Switch party for some reason.
It's a little odd when you consider how Nintendo attracted all sorts of third-parties during the Wii and DS era, even when it meant creating bespoke, lower-speced versions of tentpole games. Switch is keeping pace with Wii sales at the same point in its lifetime, but there are still some huge hold-outs. We're talking titans of the gaming world — some of the most profitable franchises in the history of the medium.
Perhaps publishers got stung by Wii U and missed the boat this time. Maybe they simply don't see the benefit of investing in Switch while they're raking in billions elsewhere. Perhaps they don't believe Switch players buy the types of games they produce...
Regardless of the reasons, we've picked out a half-dozen world renowned franchises that are not to be found on Nintendo's latest console. You can let us know in the poll at the very bottom which ones you'd most like to see on Switch.
Metal Gear Solid

We'd forgive you for thinking of Metal Gear primarily as a 'Sony' series thanks to the influence of the iconic Metal Gear Solid when it launched on PlayStation in 1998. However, the Konami-owned, Hideo Kojima-helmed stealth series has featured on multiple Nintendo platforms over the years, including the Game Boy Color, the 3DS and Wii (if you count Virtual Console releases with that last one). Metal Gear Solid itself was ported to GameCube in the form of The Twin Snakes and the very first game in the Metal Gear series came to the NES following its MSX2 debut. The mainline series may have set up camp elsewhere, but Nintendo gamers have had some splendid times with Snake, even if they've missed some of the big 'uns.

So how come Snake's not on Switch yet? Well, let's not forget that he is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate — he even has his own amiibo!
Still, the Metal Gear series is otherwise a curious no-show on Switch. While there has been a question mark over the future direction of the series ever since series creator Kojima and and the IP owners parted ways in 2015 (as did many key team members who left to work with him on Death Stranding at Kojima Productions), Konami has apparently been taking its time deciding how best to proceed with the series without its creator and original staff onboard.
To our minds, that sounds like the perfect time for a Switch port or two of older series entries, but there's no guessing with Konami. For every solid gold retro release they put out a turkey or a licenced pachinko machine, so it's tough to say what's on the cards.
We do miss sneaking around with Snake, though. There are plenty of other stealth games on Switch, but Metal Gear is still top dog when it comes to tactical espionage action. Do us a Solid, Konami — you've kept us waiting long enough, no?
Call of Duty

Activision's cinematic first-person shooter series has appeared on Nintendo consoles in some form since 2004 with Call of Duty: Finest Hour on GameCube, which arrived just a year after the Call of Duty franchise first locked and loaded. GameCube also hosted Big Red One before we saw versions of Call of Duty 3, Modern Warfare, Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3 on Wii. Then there were the numerous DS ports and spin-offs, too.
While the Nintendo ports — often running on more modest hardware compared to rival platforms — could never be considered the 'premier' versions, the fact that Activision supported those systems said something about their commitment to Nintendo's audience and the importance it placed on the platforms.
So why have they gone AWOL on Switch, despite putting not one but two ports on Wii U in the forms of Black Ops II and Ghosts? Well, getting stung by those last two thanks to the Wii U's low install base could be a factor — you get the impression that Activision might be employing the same brand of reactionary decision-making plaguing EA these days.
Perhaps the real reason lies in how games like Minecraft and Fortnite have shifted the PlayStation and Xbox demographics younger than they were in the Wii and DS days. Where Activision may have previously viewed Nintendo versions as worthwhile investments on platforms that historically attracted younger gamers — to hook them on the franchise before they graduated to one of the meatier, 'grown-up' consoles — these days the audience has shifted and they can win those young hearts and minds without leaving Sony and Microsoft's ecosystems. Everyone's a winner.
Except Switch gamers who don't own another console, that is. It's taken some time, but Switch has amassed a quality library of first-person shooters over the last four years. Realistically, we're not expecting a Switch port of Warzone or a downgraded version of the next instalment, but we'd still relish the opportunity to enlist with Captain Price again, though.
Tomb Raider

Never mind that Lara Croft debuted on the Sega Saturn — much like Metal Gear, the impact of Core Design's Tomb Raider on PlayStation back in 1996 made it seem that Lara belonged to Sony's stable of stars. Again, the fact is that Tomb Raider games have been landing on Nintendo systems ever since Tomb Raider on the Game Boy Color in 2000, and there was even a Nintendo 64 port in the works until Sony signed an exclusivity deal and tied Lara to PlayStation until the turn of the millennium.
We saw several games in the series though the GameCube / GBA and Wii / DS eras, although the Wii U received no Tomb Raiders of any kind. Crystal Dynamic's trilogy of games — Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015) and Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018) — all came and went on other platforms, but Crystal Dynamics apparently didn't want to do a half-hearted job with GamePad integration on Wii U.
Will we ever see Lara Croft on Switch? Well, that last trilogy of games was published by Square Enix, and that company can be a little all over the place sometimes. We have had winners like Octopath Traveler on Switch, plus a spate of Final Fantasy re-releases, so it’s not impossible Square could delve into its publishing back catalogue again.
Given the choice (if a brand new game is off the table), we'll take a Crystal Dynamics trilogy package along the lines of the Borderlands Collection or the BioShock Collection, please.
The Sims

The EA-published life sim series which spun out of Will Wright's SimCity games, The Sims might seem all light-hearted and zany on the outside, but it's a huge, huge deal in terms of popularity and profit. Starting in 2000, they're up to number four right now, but there are a metric ton of spin-offs and alternate ports and versions attached to this IP.
The Maxis-developed series has appeared (in some form or other) on GameCube, Wii, GBA, DS and 3DS... but not Switch. The Sims 4 can be found on PS4 and Xbox One... but not Switch.
Why, you ask? Well, you see we mentioned EA up there? That's most probably the reason. Despite being quick off the mark with support for Wii U (games like Mass Effect 3 and the excellent Need for Speed: Most Wanted U spring to mind), it appears that EA top brass were caught off guard with Switch and they're stubbornly refusing to believe there would be any meaningful return on investment. No doubt they'll jump onboard Nintendo's next console, which will then tank, and the whole stupid cycle will repeat again.
With games like Burnout Paradise Remastered and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered, we have seen some belated efforts to court Switch gamers (Apex Legends will be with us soon, too), but it's hard to muster much enthusiasm for a company that throws out scraps (three 'Legacy Editions' of FIFA in a row) and expects you to be grateful.
Now, if we were able to play a solid port of The Sims 4 on Switch, and perhaps name one of our sims 'Ernie Arts', and maybe lock them in a room with no toilet, we might be prepared to forgive and forget. The ball's in your court, EA.
Grand Theft Auto

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on DS was great, and the Game Boy Color received ports of both the original 2D Grand Theft Auto and its also-2D sequel, Grand Theft Auto 2; the latter, however, was the last time that a mainline GTA would come to a Nintendo console of any sort.
2004's Grand Theft Auto Advance is the only other entry in the franchise Nintendo fans have got their hands on over the years, which is a shame because, love it or hate it, GTA is one of the medium's defining franchises. We'd love to see it come to Switch in some form — if only an HD collection of some of the older entries (a dual pack of Vice City and San Andreas, for example, would be a very hot proposition). When you look at something as evidently scalable as GTA V — a game which started life on PS3 and Xbox 360 and has versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X scheduled for release by the end of the year — it's disappointing that Rockstar hasn't used a tiny fraction of its vast resources to assemble a version for Nintendo gamers. There must be dozens of Switches strewn across desks in Rockstar headquarters! Somebody, somewhere in-house must have toyed with the idea...
Unfortunately, the gargantuan financial success of GTA Online is probably the reason Rockstar can't find the enthusiasm to bring GTA to Switch, whatever the form. We've still got our fingers crossed that Nintendo nostalgia might get the better of someone up the food chain at Rockstar, though.
Ridge Racer

While not half the money spinner some of these other franchises are, Namco's quintessential arcade racer has a special place in our hearts and it's the final series we're desperate to see return in some fashion, and preferably to a Nintendo console. The series might have skipped Nintendo home systems after Ridge Racer 64 and spin-off R: Racing Evolution on the GameCube, but we also got entries on the DS and 3DS.
Arguably, Ridge Racer is yet another one of those 'hang on, isn't that a PlayStation series?' games, but we don't see any reason why Bandai Namco (best buds with Nintendo these days, remember) couldn't bring Reiko Nagase and her fleet of uber-shiny cars to Switch and add a dash of RR's trademark drifting and slick presentation to Switch's growing garage of racing games. The last entry to come to consoles was 2012's Ridge Racer Unbounded, so the series is due a revival.
There are other huge video game properties we could name which aren't on Switch either, although the absence of games like Warcraft or incredibly popular MOBAs like League of Legends is less conspicuous because they haven't traditionally occupied the console space.
Let us know below which of the hold-outs above you'd like to see on Switch, and of course any others you'd like to play on-the-go on your favourite handheld.

Big franchises missing from PlayStation:
Mario
Zelda
Metroid
Kirby
Pokemon
Trust me. You don’t want sims 4.
GTA is easily the most confusing omission since Saints Row is on Switch.
As for COD, I just don't know at this point. If we're lucky, we'll get a port of a newer one or a remastered old one. I loved Black Ops 2 on Wii U.
"6 games that cant run on switch"
I didn't know Ridge Race was a huge series.
If we're talking only Switch, Warioware and Rhythm Heaven.
I'd love to have a port of MGS HD Collection on Switch! (or better yet, the Legacy collection, but that's probably never gonna happen lol)
Man reading only about stuff we don't have really makes me feel even more bad about the Switch library. Thank god march has a few things in store for me.
I’d love for the tomb raider games the most but I’ve never played the others. Well apart from cod but I think I’d stick to pc for that
Where’s battlefield btw?Way better than cod!
@Expa0 Not these days it isnt afaik
Very odd to see it on this list
I’m currently playing through the tomb raider (and uncharted) games and I love them. I still think we’ll get a ps5 remastered trilogy with all the pc graphics and RTX but would be nice if switch gets the trilogy too. I might triple dip in that case as I love the reboot.
MGS 2 and 3 on vita made for a great portable game. I would even take a metal gear acid collection upscaled.
3 on 3DS got me to buy the circle pad pro.
The 360 and PS3 had GTA V. How have stockholders not howled in protest over ignoring approximately 80 million consoles?
@sandman89 Why not both? Both are great, especially zombies (Black Ops) and Rush on the Battlefield series.
@Doktor-Mandrake wrong. 6 games that can run on switch.
The most sensible title on this list is a remaster of Twin Snakes, but frankly Konami are weirder than Nintendo at their weirdest in terms of avoiding no-brainer business decisions. Call of Duty might come back one day, but the main drive is around the graphically demanding multiplayer more than it was 10 years ago when the series regularly appeared on Nintendo consoles. Tomb Raider and Ridge Racer could happen, but I think it would have happened already if it was going to. Can't see GTA happening at all, and while the Sims makes sense I agree that EA and Nintendo are difficult to predict, even with the recent racing titles being very good ports.
The arkham games please!
Since when did Square Enix publish Persona 5?
@BrintaPap yeah both is fine I just prefer battlefield
I would say Donkey Kong is a big one. Tropical Freeze was the last one and that was a Wii U game ported. 2014, one of their best franchsies and its been 7 years.
Nintendo need to license their games out more or buy studios like Sony and MS have been doing.
@RudeAnimat0r didn’t even notice that. Lol.
Last week it was bouffalant being called a tauros. Now it’s persona 5 being a no brainer switch port that square enix still hasn’t ported.
@JokerCK Yeah at 720p and sub 30fps
It's like people keep saying how GTA V was on x360 and ps3 while ignoring the fact xbox 360 and ps3 uses entirely different architecture to that of a switch
If anything it would be the ps4/xbo version that would get ported
Isn't Ridge Racer missing from EVERY system at this point? I'd love a new RR, but the last one I remember being released was the early 3DS game.
@Doktor-Mandrake if doom eternal andnthe Witcher can run on the switch so can all of these, besides those franchises have a lot of different games, it doesn't have to be the latest to be present on console.
I love Call of Duty Ghosts on the WiiU, would love to see It on Switch as well.
I can't say that I particularly care about any of these series honestly. Doubt I'd buy any of them if they did come to Switch.
It still baffles me that GTA V is not in the Switch. Sure, storage might be a problem, it will require a SD card even if it uses a 32gb cart, but there is still a potential market for it.
@JuanGartner Much like I try to point out before, much like x360 and ps3 use different architecture to a switch (or even a ps4 or xbo)
It's the same with games, idtech especially (used to power doom) is a VERY scalable engine, so they can scale a lot back
Where as something like GTA V uses the RAGE engine, its plausible a switch port but that engine is not just less scalable but not as easily portable.
Idtech naturally supports lots of stuff can even run doom eternal on linux for that same reason, it also supports modern api Vulkan where as GTA V will still use opengl
It's not just a matter of graphics like people here always thinks it does
I just want Call of Duty...
Third parties don't like Nintendo. That means they have to compete with them and they don't like that. I don't buy the graphical power when they have no problem making them for cellphones. Just excuses, excuses, excuses.
Why do you think Switch, a very succesful console, only has 10-year-old ports and no new entries? No new Resident Evil. Just ports. No new Crash Bandicoot. Just a port of the trilogy. No new Call of Duty but of course one for cellphones. No new Final Fantasy, only PS1 and cellphone ports. And so on and so on.
For the Playstation and Xbox gamer, a Nintendo console is beneath them. And third parties, at least the huge majority, has the same thinking.
@JuanGartner but DOOM eternal and the witcher aren’t games where cutting the visuals impacted the game. A major part of the tomb raider trilogy is the visuals (tho 2013 and rise where on 360), and the newest COD is a visual marvel.
Also the sims 4 can barely run on a ps4 pro or even a ps5 through BC, how would the switch even run that game?
The Tomb Raider games on Wii didn't leave very good impressions, but I think that had a lot to do with mandatory motion controls. What really baffles me is that the "Lara Croft and the..." games aren't on Switch since they're great for local co-op.
@RudeAnimat0r True! I’m transferring my frustration at Altus onto poor old Square. Edited 👍 Cheers!
I want Madden and NHL. Oh, and the Switch’s proper Mario Kart is also missing.
I still have hope that Konami will start supporting the Switch more.
The Sims concept would be a good fit for the Switch, except that the Sims itself is typical EA hot garbage plagued with money-grabbing expansions of content that should be in the barebones base game. Last count was around $500 for the entire game.
Most of the MGS games could run on Switch. Legacy Tomb Raider as well; the new trilogy probably not so much, at least not without huge sacrifices and being a slower paced game than something like Doom, those sacrifices would be far more apparent.
This article's title should be "6 Huge Video Game Franchises That Can Run on Nintendo Switch" because there is a -7.4% chance of most of these ever getting on the Switch.
I'm actually shocked that at the fact we don't have rise of the tomb raider on switch. It's on the Nvidia shield. Surely it can't take that much effort to convert over.
Konami get in your sense, and release a Castlevania game that despict the 1999 battle aluded in Castlevania Aria of Sorrow.
The Sims died halfway through the lifespan of the second instalment, so unless we get ports of the old games, I am not interested. Fortunately, The Sims 1 still works on Windows 10 and I would kill for a DRM-free complete edition of The Sims 2 that is updated to support modern drivers.
The Sims: Bustin' Out on GBA is also one of my favourite games of all time. Even though the handheld iterations were mostly story-based, I wouldn't say no to similar games on Switch. Hell, a remake of the GBA version of Bustin' Out would be the dream come true that I never knew I had.
It's ironic that Call of Duty got about five or six instalments on the original DS (all tailor made, exclusively for the platform) and nothing on 3DS or the Switch.
In respect to non-Nintendo franchises though, I really, really want Dead or Alive. I bought Xtreme 3 to show my support, but it's weird that we would get an extremely niche spin-off and not a port of the real deal.
How about some Fallout?
Crystal Dynamics TR games
Lara Croft games
Arkham Collection
ME trilogy
I'd rather have Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Ninja Gaiden, Fallout and Kingdom Hearts on Switch. But those wouldn't be bad, either, specially GTA, Tomb Raider and Metal Gear.
Don't care for any of them, my Switch is for 1st party Nintendo titles and indies. But since Switch has ports of games 20 and even 30 years old, it would be nice to have here the original 5 Tomb Raider games from PS1. They were not PS1 exclusives, they all had PC versions and the first one started as Saturn exclusive.
And while I'm dreaming, 3D GTAs - 3, Sand Andreas and especially Vice City - would also be very welcome.
I miss Boxing games (like Fight Night) and Combat cars games (like Vigilante 8: 2nd offense)
Metroid is currently missing from Switch. The original and Super Metroid do not count, they're untouched ports
Where is Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes!? It was only on Gamecube! It's perfect to put on Switch!
@nessisonett Why do you think Nintendo franchises are going to be on PlayStation?
I also miss great Golf games l(like PangYa)
When I first got my switch I looked to see if there was a tomb raider game out for it, hopefully one day
@JokerCK Are you sure about that?
@DK-Fan Crash 4 port could still come to switch, spyro was delayed on switch and still came eventually
EA STAR WARS GAMES
I voted for Tomb Raider and The Sims.
Tomb Raider because I haven't had the chance to play the rebooted games yet and they look real fun, and The Sims mostly for if they happen to release 1 and/or 2 on the system with all their add ons... for a reasonable price. I enjoyed Sims 1 particularly back in the day on the PC and would enjoy it on my Switch for just a bit of casual play when laying in bed.
I also wanted to vote for Metal Gear Solid and GTA but only had 2 options and these are simply a bit lower on the wanted list for me personally.
I wouldn't mind to have that Tomb Raider collection rumoured half a year ago, but the modern Tomb Raiders are not my cup of tea.
And I doubt they make will make a Switch exclusive Tomb Raider, it's just to expensive I'm afraid.
But a Tomb Raider collection with the best games from 1996 to 2008 (Underworld) would be great.
MGS Peace Walker 2 would be nice too, but I doubt we'll get it.
The rebooted tomb raider trilogy is awesome I'd love it on switch.
Will die for grand theft auto on the switch.
Answer to a different question, but I want it on Switch: The Disney Afternoon Collection
You might see more series if Nintendo ever manages to create 128GB cartridges or adds a whole lot more storage to their console. Granted the switch is portable, but GTA and Call of duty are huge these days. You can't sell a game that requires at least a 128GB micro SD and 100+ GB download.
Tomb Raider is for sure at the top but I voted for GTA as the other one only because sales articles are more fun when GTAV is in the top 10 (I have no interest in the franchise).
Metal Gear V, Deus Ex HR/MD, Nier Automata and Cyberpunk 2077
I would love to see a Tomb Raider collection on the Switch.
@sandman89 yeah battlefield 4 on switch would be cool!
I'd rather have RDR than GTA. Give me Grand Theft Horse any day of the week.
The Tomb Raider reboot games are so good. I got addicted to that survival mode in Rise. Would love to have Rise on Switch.
If GTA V can run perfectly on the Xbox 360 and PS3, which released more than a decade ago, then why can't GTA V come to Switch? And even if the game has some issues running on Switch normally, then why can't it just be a Cloud Version of the game. In that case, the game would look and run pretty decently, similarly to Hitman 3 and Control on Switch. Those are just my thoughts, and there must be some reason why GTA V isn't on Switch yet. Probably something within Rockstar or Nintendo, or something to do with the Switch's graphical capabilities.
In terms of being MOST wanted on Switch, I voted for "other" (you know my buzz by now, and even if FFXIII doesn't count here, Dishonored still comes next). But I welcome all of the aforediscussed stuff even despite having quite little personal interest in CoD and Sims so far. With MGS, V would obviously be awesome, the first one would be ironically more accessible than the already portable original on Vita (if it's true that you bizarrely can't put it on the console without a transit via PS3), but at least I could try running it on PSP as well. Guns of Patriots, on the other hand? Sure feels like the first priority #portbegging item in the series - it's been stuck on PS3 forever.
With GTA, I would at least consider VC and SA despite having long beaten them - and I haven't got far after restarting my PSP playthrough of LCS on Vita, so the respective pack (alongside VCS and Chinatown Wars) could be a viable double-dip for me as well. V goes without saying. But I'm actually not sure if I would pull another trigger on a hypothetical GTA IV again - despite liking the story and characters a lot, I ended up lukewarm towards most of the side activities therein, and the Switch version would naturally miss Independence FM, too. On PC, I'm through with Niko, gradually going through the DLC plots... and I don't really envision myself revisiting this entry afterwards. Again, that doesn't mean GTA 4's presence on Switch wouldn't be a good thing.
Tomb Raider? Bring them on. All of them - beyond the latest trilogy, I'm quite in the market for Anniversary and Legend as well.
@nessisonett
Technically Metroid still missing from Switch
Wait! You put Ridge Racer over Yakuza??
@darkswabber that's why I said the games didn't need to be the latest, the best entry of the sims is the second, even a sims 1 port would be great addition for nostalgia, and tomb raider has lots of great games before the reboot, and I bet the Switch could run tomb raider 2013 and rise of the tomb raider just fine
Mass Effect. The remastered trilogy coming out in a few months was a huge oportunity. Maybe with the (rumored) revisioned hardware?
@nhSnork GTA IV gets a boost from me solely due to Vladivostok FM - that is the old playlist. The game suffers so much from the licenses expiring. Good thing I own it on PC and can restore the old radio stations.
@Ryu_Niiyama Sure, Sims 3 is the better game but i definitely want a proper Sims on Switch and that would probably be 4. Just give me The Sims . Also where is that animation in the profile pic of yours from, it looks cool!
Please Metal Gear
Honestly, much as I'd love half of these (not COD) nothing sticks out more for me than Nintendo's own missing franchises. I buy Nintendo for some Metroid and Star Fox, not just Mario and Zelda.
Batman Arkham
Splinter Cell
I'd love to see all the Tomb Raider games devoted by Crystal Dynamics ported to Switch. While I love the latest reboot, I'd love CD's first reboot (Legend/Underworld/Anniversary) on Switch even more.
I'd also love to see Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light along with Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris on Switch as well. I'm fact, I desperately want another isometric Tomb Raider, they were amazing!
Said it before and I'll say it again: LUFIA!!! 😭😭😭😭 I would love a Lufia game on the switch!
@Palaws
Splinter Cell Blacklist was already on Wii U. I just don't think Ubisoft cares, or knows what to do with Splinter Cell right now. They're probably trying to figure out how to turn it into an open world game or an ever evolving online experience. Both of which I do not want, I'd rather they let the franchise stay in limbo before seeing either of those.
I had both CoD game son WiiU and didn't think they were that bad, I always found multiplayer games when I wanted one
@nessisonett
PS also missing:
Animal Crossing
Astral Chain
Bravely
Fire Emblem
Hades
Ori
Pikmin
Smash
SMT
Splatoon
Xenoblade
Luigi/DK/Yoshi
Nintendo missing:
Persona
Kingdom Hearts (Music doesn't count)
Mass Effect
Been waiting on COD since day one. I should be over it by now but I’m not. It perplexes me. Pisses me off I can play it on my phone with ***** controls and not the switch.
Just Tomb Raider for me
Don't really care about the others to much
@Barbara001
Are you married yet?
Because I want to marry you now!
Lufia II was my first ever game I personally bought, and I played it for months and months. Still my favorite rpg of all time, due to the love story, the music and the sad, sad ending. I always love it when somebody mentions that franchise!
I'd dig the MGS Collection on the Switch. The only installment that probably wouldn't run great on the system is V — but that's the weakest link, in my opinion. An experiment where Kojima toyed around with the open-world systems he'd perfect in his far more accomplished Death Stranding.
As for the future of MGS as a franchise? Eh, hard to say. More than any franchise I can think of, it's too tied up with its creator. MGS is Kojima. Can't imagine those games without his eccentricities. The only other Japanese developer with a similar mind is Nier's Taro Yoko, and he's busy doing his own thing.
Isn't the switch getting sims 4? Didnt EA say it will be coming or am I remembering wrong
Some great suggestions from others here! I’d love to see the following franchises being released on switch:
and why not throw in some more rpg’s in the mix such as the chrono, ogre and lunar franchises
@Rhaoulos 128gb cart wouldn't solve anything. The 32gb card exists and barely any 3rd party uses it. Hell, lots of publishers refuse to even use the 16gb cart. Look at what happened with dark souls on switch. Bamco was too cheap to use a friggin' 8gb cart so they compressed the audio to crunch the damn thing on a 4gb cart and sent it out the door.
I would love some sort of Call Of Duty Online with just multiplayer and no campaign. I also miss Tony Hawk on a Nintendo platform.
Ridge Racer hasn’t been a “huge” series since the PS2. Plenty of other racing series that have been more impactful since then.
Good luck ever seeing MGS on Switch considering Konami hates money. Also, remember the Silent Hill HD Collection? Just because the switch could run MGS 1-4 doesn't mean Konami wouldn't find an easy way to mess it up.
Voted Sims and other.
Sims just makes sense to me. Got folks who like Animal Crossing? Cool. Now here's Sims. It won't win every AC fan over, but I'm sure lots of them would love to get their Sims fix on the go. Add cross save functionality with PC version and you got yourself something special.
As for other, I'd settle for the first 2 Dead Rising games and spinoffs. It'd be great to have both on the go. (Not the Wii version of 1 btw, but the XB360 version.) While I didn't play 3 or 4, I heard those weren't good.
Halo TMCC, Rare Replay, most of the other’s mentioned. All AAA XB360 and PS3 games.
I would also like to see Fallout New Vegas and Evil Within.
I want a 3D fighter - Dead or Alive, Soul Calibur, Virtua Fighter, Tekken any of those really.
I think this is the one big genre missing from Switch really.
@Chowdaire : Nintendo's no angel in that respect either. Smash Ultimate should have been on a 32GB cart, but they compressed the hell out of around 30 hours of audio down to approximately 1.4GB. Being an evergreen title that will sell tens of millions during its lifespan, I hoped that Nintendo would lead by example, but no, they compromised the quality of the game to cut costs, and there was no doubt of its profitability (especially with amiibo and DLC sales to account for as well).
I was really disappointed because the lack of depth and range was apparent, and I am not even an audiophile. It's ironic because the Wii U instalment and even Brawl would have better audio quality than the "new gen" instalment.
And this also puts digital customers at a disadvantage because they too end up with an inferior product because the publisher wanted to cut costs on the physical release. I do not wish to see "high texture" or "high quality audio" packs become normalised on console hardware either because that data should damn well be on the supplied media. That is the whole point of buying physical media in the first place.
Similar to your example though (and I have pointed this out a few times), Ubisoft shipped Just Dance 2017 on a 16GB cartridge for the Switch's launch (mind you, 16GB cartridges are likely to have been more expensive back then as well). 2018 and all subsequent instalments have shipped on 8GB cartridges, and the degradation in A/V quality was immediately apparent. Unfortunately, and like you have mentioned with Dark Souls, publishers far too often skimp on audiovisual quality to save a bit of coin as opposed to any incapability of the hardware, and they need to be called out more often in order to discourage these practices.
People whine and moan about frame rates and resolution, but neglect to reprimand publishers who shamelessly compromise their own products as a cost-cutting measure. The fact that the Switch has multiple cartridge sizes available also makes it easier for greedy publishers to aim for the smallest (and cheapest) cartridge size. On rival hardware, publishers have fewer options (25GB/50GB for Blu-ray, 50GB/66GB/100GB for UHD Blu-ray).
Arkham
Dead Space
Deus Ex
Half Life
Kingdom Hearts
Persona
Portal
Sims
Tomb Raider
@Doktor-Mandrake every one of these could run on the Switch. Smdh at the idiocy of the current gen games
Forgot about Batman.
@Doktor-Mandrake maybe not to the latest GTA, but I'm pretty sure the rest could
@everynowandben would love to see arkham on the switch. Some of the best batman games ever. Only ever finished the first one
@PushMyGran86 oh man gta sa would be nice on the switch, and tbh I prefer the older games
I would also like to add far cry to that list. Far cry 3 still one of my favorite games.
I want to see "Dead or Alive" (previously on 3DS) and "Soul Calibur" (previously on GameCube) return to Nintendo via the Switch.
I'm missing Ridge Racer so bad!
The other games are all reasons why I choose the Nintendo Switch - not the main reason, but reasons.
On the other hand: I own every single game of the mentioned series. That's we I still own all my PlayStations....in their boxes in my basement.
GTAV and The Sims 4 not being on Switch continues to baffle me.
Metal Gear is pretty much dead now that Kojima is no longer at Konami, and Call of Duty is probably too technically challenging (and too big in terms of file size) to run on Switch.
@Doktor-Mandrake I mean it wouldn't be hard to port the older games, there already on android! I love the older games too, but maybe it's because of nostalgia
Metal Gear would easily be #1 for me with GTA being second. Most of the others I don’t care too much about. If I had to rank the rest I’d probably then want Tomb Raider, The Sims, Call of Duty & last Ridge Racer.
It’s more politics and numbers why we don’t or won’t see major 3rd party titles on the Switch.
How well did Mortal Kombat do on the Switch?
The problem is that the trend of Porting thanks to high costs of developing a exclusive version for its dedicated platform.
Besides I can imagine it is challenging for a Game Studio that relies on brute power developing games vs smart game design.
It is obvious that many developers focus on resolution and high graphics than on game design. Which as we can tell Nintendo is a master in. You know a bad movie in 4K won’t make it better right ? If we can get two Zelda breath of the wild games which one was designed for two platforms, why not GTA or Metal Gear?
That would cost resources and money. This could also be the answer why we see mobile phone and no Switch versions.
Nintendo should promote third party games more to push sales as they do with Indie studios. But they are not as big as a competition I guess. 🤷♂️
Besides doesn’t GTA (Lego City) and Call of Duty (Splatoon) go against their approach?
Yes, it would be cool to see a Tomb Raider game on the Switch. Or something in that direction from Next Level Games.
I wish we got Phantasy Star Online episodes 1 and 2 HD....
Perhaps some Nintendo IPs other than Mario and Zelda...?
I trid sims for (First sims game btw) and it was ok but it sounds like the other games did stuff better and there is to much dlc I cant with the dlc.
I just came for the comments n boy was I not let down
Ridiculous, people saying PS3/360 games can't run on Switch when it has excellent ports like Assassins Creed Collection and Saints Row 3/4 (and even PS4 ports that stand up well!) It's a failing of the developers, not the Switch, if others can't do the same.
So glad i have a PS5. I'm playing a lot CoD Cold War and have a blast with that game.
@LordVal I have really enjoyed playing ridge racer on my New 2DS XL. great game I really really thought they were going to have a ridge racer for switch and hopefully it would be an exclusive but no such game materialized.
@JR150 cod can stay away from the switch its a stale franchise at this point.
@DK-Fan 100% facts your speaking
Madden
Kid Icarus
Tony Hawk OR SKATE
I'd like to see a physical release of God Hand.
Nano machines?
@RiasGremory
Just because you don't want it doesn't mean other people don't. If it comes to the Switch you can simply just not buy it.
@Doktor-Mandrake GTA V and MGSV should run on switch as they had 360 versions
Excite series, preferably Excite Truck.
@Silly_G Thanks for pointing out just dance, I didn't know about that example, but it falls in line with the behavior of many publishers.
A similar story of greed and insanity was seen with doom eternal. Doom 2016 released in the launch year of the switch and shipped on a 16gb cart (admittedly with a mandatory patch) and yet years later eternal ends up as a digital only release.
Whats most baffling about these decisions is that we know 16gb carts aren't THAT expensive and have definitely dropped in price since 2017. How do I know this? In 2019 several ports hit the switch like: dragons dogma and the darksiders series. Each of these games shipped on 16gb carts but the games were also only 30 bucks. If 16gb carts are so expensive how are they able to be used on budget games and how was Bethesda able to utilize one three years ago when they were more expensive but suddenly the cost now is too risky?
Covid may have factored into this decision but I also just think its another example of a publisher cutting corners for maximum profit.
Out of all these, I'm surprised The Sims hasn't come to Switch.
This is why the PS5 is dying, only two of those six franchise were plan for the PS5 and they're not even a new entry. Nintendo had their first party titles to help them sell hardware, Sony rely on third parties cause most of their first party games often doesn't do the job, without these they could easily gone from 1st to dead last.
GTA 5 is really a curiosity that this game is not on Switch, whatever the reason, I do not find something feasible to skip the console.
The Sims also interest me, although since it is from EA, it is like tossing a coin, also, quite possibly, it includes the DLCs, but separately ..., also, I look forward to its spin off more:
My Sims, seriously, i love that franchise.
Ridge Racer is a great franchise, however, personally, it doesn't appeal to me much ... but, speaking of racing;
Test Drive is a franchise that I would like to see a come back and more on Switch; their Unlimited versions were great !! ^^
Dance Dance Revolution is another of my favorite franchises and I would also like to see a return on Switch, although also, the Beatmania series would be a good option.
We are talking about The Sims, but we must not forget about its mother franchise, Sim City, I also hope some version soon, but that they take more into consideration the classic versions of the 90's or early 2000's, in addition, the versions on Nintendo consoles are they looked better than the latest official versions.
And well, there are more, but these are the ones I remember the most.
Lots of fighting game franchises are missing from Switch.
@Chowdaire : Indeed. It's maddening that Capcom kept releasing budget priced games on 16GB cartridges while shying away from complete Resident Evil releases (all of which have only contained a cartridge for the smallest game in the "collection" and download vouchers for the rest). It made no sense at this point that they couldn't release 32GB cartridges at the standard US$60 price point, if not, for $10 more (similar to now new-gen games sometimes cost around $10 more due to the slightly more expensive discs). I would have happily coughed up the goods to have all of the Resident Evil games on cartridge, but Capcom won't even give the customer base a chance to.
In respect to DOOM Eternal, I am actually grateful that there is no physical release... yet. I would much rather they wait until the DLC expansions are released and issue a complete edition later on (in fact, I wish that this were the case for all games with DLC). Hell, I would double dip on DOOM 2016 if there is some kind of reissue with the "patches" on the cartridge. I bought it on a whim back then for the novelty of having a modern DOOM game on a handheld, but I am done supporting "partial cartridge" releases.
I don’t care about any of these myself, but the fact that Sims isn’t on Switch is one of the stupidest things in gaming today.
Battletoads it won't happen, but I can dream
Metal gear solid is dead on metal gear solid. Unless someone wants a pachi-slot or a mobile game.
Ninja gaiden trilogy?
From these I only want Metal Gear and Tomb Raider. But I'd accept Dante's Inferno and dead space and force unleashed
Call of duty on Wii U had two player mode, one on Wii u game pad and one on tv. Wish more games had this. I am looking at you MK8.
THE SIMS 4 !!!
Nintendo Switch without The Sims games is a Crime.
Would’ve put BATMAN Arkham series up there instead of Ridge Racer
Halo. I know, I know. It’s an Xbox exclusive. But, with Nintendo and Microsoft’s recent partnerships, I feel like we could get at least the master chief collection on switch. It’s an older title, and could really be fun on the go. Master chief for smash as well
Does Konami even make games anymore?
@AgentGuapo
I apologize for not knowing if your comment is real or sarcasm, however, answering your question, do you know which is the best-selling game in Japan lately? Do you know who that game is?
I want three not two. MGS, Tomb Raider and, of course, Grand Theft Auto.
@PickledKong64 like I previously said, that doesnt make much sense because xbox 360 is entirely different architecture to a switch
Trust me, 100% if they ever did port GTA V or would NOT be the x360/ps3 version, it would be the ps4/xbo version if they ever did
@Barbara001 just add Rise of the Sinistrals to SNES online and I personally would be very very happy
I suspect in most cases the reason we’ve not seen those series on Switch is the fact that they’ve pivoted to online heavy modes and the portable - not always online- Switch sees a lower return from that model (though there have been successes).
With remasters of older games I think the publishers want to align them to release on all platforms simultaneously so it can be an issue of timing.
Most importantly though NL, Ridge Racer is an indulgent pick for this list. Fallout, ME, Dragon Age, Yakuza and Farcry are all much (much) bigger series MIA on Switch in 2021.
@Ghost_of_Hasashi what in the F are you talking about...
Out of the ones listed in the poll? Tomb Raider even though I own all but the most recent on PC. Picked up MGSV recently on PS4 and just not a fan. Sims 4 (or sims in general) I prefer on PC do to mods.
Ones not listed...Dragon Age or Mass Effect.
im a huge metal gear fan, but the series is dead. konami wont do any good with it. i dont want them to touch a metal gear game ever again.
voted for ridge racer btw. that series needs to be reawaken again. loved the 3ds launch game
I voted Call of Duty, but only because it's always been cool to see the Treyarch guys do the unexpected and implausible with Nintendo systems.
I don't actually play any of these franchises. ^_^;;
Personally I don't support 3rd parties anymore because of how they are treated Nintendo ever since the N64 days. There will always be an excuse by them to not fully support Nintendo. A lot of people need to accept the fact that Rockstar Games truly hate Nintendo deep down. They really don't want to support the company. Just like Electronic Arts and a whole host up companies such as falcon. People need to really understand how their party is truly feel about Nintendo. Nintendo could have the most powerful Home console in the universe and get less support. It just doesn't matter. This is why I'm purely a first-party Nintendo supporter. Because they will always treat me good at the consumer unlike the third parties
@JR150 I think that they should put Call of Duty Mobile on switch. Seems like easy money for Activission...
@Friendly I loooooove that game! First RPG I ever played and since then I cannot stop playong them, always hoping some game will ever be as great as that one. Some get there (Tales of the Abyss, Ys VIII, Final Fantasy games), most of them don't however. I still go back to the game sometimes, reliving the memories.
@dewokkel I would sooooo love that, although nowadays any new SNES addition to the online service would be something. Although.... Noooo, any game would be welcome!
That´s an interesting list.
My choice would be Ridge Racer.
The 3ds game was awesome. It is still, to this day, one of the best visuals on that platform.
The Sim doesn´t seem as huge today as it was 10 years ago. I don´t think many Switch players would actually care about it
@Barbara001 true true, but if they would add Lufia... damn, I’ll be playing that ancient cave for weeks to come. It’s such a good game and talking about it makes me want to play it even more 😍
@nessisonett
Great response Cheers!
@dewokkel @barbara001 ah yes, the original rogue-like turn based rpg.
How would you guys do that ancient cave? Which characters? Blue chests up to level 20, escape, and redo until you have a semi full inventory?
It’s still a lot of work with some luck involved to get to level 99 in that cave.
I sold my snes a couple of years ago, but I kept the strategy guide that came with the game
Because most of those games are Popgamer garbage.
@Friendly hm, you’ll at least need Arty and probably Dekar. Not sure on the fourth character. Maybe Selan. I’m not really fond of Guy. He’s just a weaker Dekar to me. Besides that, you’ll need a lot of lucky rng 😉
@dewokkel can’t leave Selan behind since she doesn’t leave the party . I think you have to go with Arty or Lexis if I recall correctly, and pray to get the spell ‘strong’.
@Friendly if you complete the game 2 (or 3) times, you can play the cave and choose your own party. The game only lets you play the cave after completing it 2 or 3 times I believe.
@JR150 cod is just trash plain and simple theres better shooters out there then cod.
@dewokkel on the SNES version?
I never knew that! Thanks for the eye-opener! Wow...
@Friendly Yes, on the SNES version. When you finish the game for the first time, you’ll need to play the retry mode and when you finish that, you’ll get the gift mode 🙂
Retry mode is essentially a New Game+. All experience and money you receive from enemies is quadrupled. For the rest it plays exactly like a normal game.
Gift mode is limited to Ancient Cave only, however you do get to pick your team for it (only Maxim is mandatory).
@dewokkel welp, now I have to replay the game.
And I hereby thank you for it .
@Friendly no worries. Always nice to have a good reason to play this game again 😉
Have fun!
@nessisonett To be fair, the featured characters are not 1st party like Mario.
They are missing the Batman Arkham games and Kingdom Hearts (don't tell me that rhythm game is a KH game).
@Doktor-Mandrake Don’t be silly.
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain both released on last gen.
Call of Duty has had Modern Warfare 1+2 Remastered and could easily just port the originals over.
Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider released on Xbox 360; Shadow may be the troublesome one as that was only current gen.
The Sims has had GAME BOY ADVANCE ports. If they can squeeze The Sims on a GBA, they can for a Switch.
Every Grand Theft Auto has been on hardware weaker than the Switch - this is the one most surprising as the most current and supported entry ran on last gen as well.
Ridge Racer was rumored not too long ago, but also was rumored to be shelved, so there’s still hope for an exclusive or even a multi-platform.
Fatal Frame needs to come to Switch.
@MrCookieCrisps every single one of those games use s different engine and made by different companies
Dont know how many more times I can keep saying that it isnt purely graphics
A game could have terrible graphics, doesnt mean it's easy to port
@Friendly I honestly could never handle the ancient cave hahaha. The story is what grabbed me, shook me to my core and what kept me playing. And that #"&%#' Tarantula-spider-boss thingy hahaha. Opoh, now I want to defeat the Sinistrals all over again!!!
Not missing one of them but Ridge Racer.
I think the only series I would buy on Switch would be Metal Gear. I also answered Tomb Raider, and while I would like to see it come to switch because I love those games, I probably wouldn't buy it because I already have the trilogy on PC and would rather play it there.
The only one I really want to see is Call of Duty but GTA would be fine as well.
@Doktor-Mandrake And where did I say it wouldn’t be hard work to port those engines to the Switch?
The games themselves are able to be ported, hence why they’re all included on this article, the engines is where the work will be done.
@MrCookieCrisps The article does not state that, anywhere.
How about 6 Nintendo franchises missing on Switch:
Star Wing/Fox
F-Zero
Metroid
Pilotwings
Earthbound/Mother
Advance Wars
Not a single one, maybe sims, but I'd rather see ea do a switch verion thats more suited for switch(handheld).
@NintendoByNature NO!
@jello64 lol I had to even recall what you're replying to since this was a while ago. No arkham games? Man they're great!
@NintendoByNature Arkham, yes. Walking Dead, no.
@jello64 oh I never meant the walking dead!!!
I can't think of any logical reason why Rockstar decided LA Noire was the game to test the water with the Switch. Lets be honest, GTA V would have sold like hot cakes as a portable option. LA Noire on Switch has to be considered a failure considering no retailer restocked it, I can't imagine it sold well at all
I really, really, REALLY want these games on the Switch (and they all came out on the Xbox 360 and PS3, so it's totally possible):
Far Cry 3
Far Cry 4
Watch Dogs
Regarding Far Cry: I know people keep saying that FPS games shouldn't be on the Switch, but I really don't see why not? Borderlands is on there, Doom, Wolfenstein, Crysis... Gyroscopic aiming makes FPS games so much better (which Borderlands has, not sure about the others), and it feels so much more up-close-and-personal to actually be holding the game in your hands as you're shooting! There's something really immersive about it. Also, it's exactly the same game, just on a smaller screen. What's the issue?
@Doktor-Mandrake if Doom Eternal runs on Switch-MGS and GTA would be a piece of cake for Switch
Please bring Mass Effect, Metal Gear Solid, Vanquish, and Arkham Series to Switch. I would happily pay full price for those.
@Znake Doom Eternal uses id tech which is a very versatile engine, that's how it was able to get a switch port
GTA and MGS use entirely different engines, its comparing apples to oranges and saying "switch can run X game so means Y game can be ported too" means nothing from a software developers point of view
@Doktor-Mandrake you are totally right, I meant it in a way what’s possible to achieve on the system, plus Doom wasn’t just a simple port, and many games from PS3 that came to Switch had to be adapted to the system too-all which was originated from diverse engines too . All I mean is that with some effort, it could work on the system
@Znake Totally, would be nice to see, gta v on the go especially would be really cool
@Doktor-Mandrake would you mind having even just ps3 version (purely graphics wise/even though that’s less likely than downgraded ps4 Ver..
@Doktor-Mandrake doom eternal works on switch- which is much faster paced and generally demanding game, plus GTA and MGS were both on ps3, so it’s a no brainer that Switch could easily run those.
@Trialus and MGS HD Collection, GTA 3, Miami and San Andreas.
