Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist is the spectacular (and often tragic) tale of the Elric brothers Edward and Alphonse, who attempt to seek redemption in a fictional world where alchemy is very much a reality. The popularity of the series has ensured that it has been given the full works in terms of merchandise over the years, and that of course includes video game adaptations.
Bandai's 2004 JRPG Hagane no Renkinjutsushi: Meisō no Rondo for the Game Boy Advance is one such title. Better known outside of Japan as Fullmetal Alchemist: Stray Rondo, it sadly never received an official localization, which was rather odd considering the huge western fanbase the series had back in those days. The lack of a region lock on the GBA meant you could easily import the game, but without a proper knowledge of basic Japanese you would have quite a struggle fully comprehending what was happening - until now, that is.

Thanks to some phenomenal fan translation effort from x_comp and mz, there is now a full English patch for the whole adventure. You can download it right here.
Are you a fan of Fullmetal Alchemist? Did take on alchemy in an attempt to force Bandai to release this in the west back in the day? Tell us all in the comments below.

"Won't cost you an arm and a leg" heh cleaver I had a nice chuckle from that. But I'm glad fans do these translations so people(like myself) without knowing Japanese, can enjoy these games. We wouldn't be able to play games like this or mother 3 without them... speaking of mother 3, an official translation would be nice..
@Zoda_Fett I knew fans would get it... ^_^
@Shiryu I confirm it too, very well played XD
Anyway interesting news, maybe I'll check it out, looks like a fun retro RPG (even if story-wise seems based on the first anime which destroyed the original work of Arakawa with no shame ;w; ).
@Shiryu Sorry bud, that joke came up "short" for me personally
I've been playing it for the last 5 days on my 3ds and I gotta say, its pretty dang fun.
Sounds cool. I know the series fairly well but, didn't know about this game. The GBA era had some amazing RPG's. Have to see where this one stacks up.
I hate it when translators put their weird usernames on the title screen.
I'm certainly looking forward to trying this out, FMA and FMAB are my favorite anime of all time!
Since when does nintendolife promotes rom hackig? You should watch out nintendolife.. you could get sued by Nintendo for pormoting such things...
@shiryu, you're Nintendo Life's one man video game museum! Another one I haven't heard of (FMA is less to my taste, but still cool that these games keep on coming)! Nice!
Is it based on the original anime or the manga?
@ruinez ... hmm, you must be new here! Welcome!
@amiiboacid It follows the plot of the first original anime series.
Wow, that brings back a lot of memories.
I didn't watch much anime, but I'd easily say the original FMA was my favorite.
Never knew there was a GBA game. Perhaps someday someone can go translate either the Wii game based off Brotherhood or the 3rd PS2 game the US never saw....
Is the link to the translated game or just the translation patch? I downloaded whatever they linked it to, but It's not letting me play it on my Revo k101+
@J-Manix98 Just the translation patch. Be warned that its on xdelta format and it is not compatible with soft patching like .ips and .bps formats.
@Shiryu any idea were I can find the game rom? Emu paradise doesnt appear to have it...
@J-Manix98 Sorry, we don't deal in illegal rom information at NL. I'm sure you can understand.
@Shiryu sure, lol. then why would this post even exist in the first place?
@J-Manix98 To let people know who might have picked up the game when it was new that they can now play it properly in English.
@Shiryu riiiiiiiiiiight....
@J-Manix98 In all honesty, yes. I report these fan translation news so folks are aware of them. It is up to each and every one of you decide if you choose to simply pirate the games or actually play your cartridges with them. I'm just the messenger.
I recently finished the PS2 Fullmetal games and now I discover this. Such good timing!
The original FMA is the best by far. They managed to turn a cliche, shallow manga into something intelligent and thought-provoking. And with a much better ending.
