For those of you out there who are anxiously awaiting the release of Cave Story 3D on 3DS, the folks at NIS America have been kind enough to send over a brand new gameplay trailer of the game in action.
In this newest video, you'll get to see just how far the game has come with its brand new 3D visual makeover. There's even some new footage showing the game running with the classic pixel sprites intact for those who plan to make use of them.
We've got the finished game in hand right now and are hard at work on the upcoming review, which should be ready to go within the next few days. Until then, take a gander at this new trailer for a taste of what you can expect when the game hits store shelves on November 8th in North America and November 11th in Europe.

So does the Original Game come on the card also.
But Damn that looks good. May double dip on this and the dsiware game if not.
You cannot fully appreciate just how gorgeous this game is until you see it in full 3D on the 3DS system.
Never played the original but I've heard good things. I'll have to pick this up when it comes out.
Meh, a big part of the game's charm was its retro look. I'm not sure I like this at all. Gonna wait to see if it becomes cheaper before even considering it; I've got better things to buy than remakes of free PC games.
I just don't feel like this is how the game was originally meant to be...
@shingi70 yes the cartridge does contain both versions. This game looks amazing!
This is looking really good. I might pick it up depending on cash and reviews.
With both Zelda and Mario coming out in November it's gonna have some tough competition though.
I don't believe you get both versions. I've got the final production build here now and it's nowhere in sight. Just a switch of sprites for the characters, not the backgrounds.
Wow, this does look pretty great. I remember seeing an earlier video of it and being worried because the animation and general detail of the graphics were both very rough but this is very, very pretty to look at.
I wonder if it's just as tough as the original? I've still never completed it! I just can't get through that crazy boss blitz at the end! :/
Hmm, this does look more intriguing then it did before. I'll keep an eye out for it.
I still don't like how it looks. =/ I hope you're right about it looking better in person, Corbie!
It looks nice...but I've played this one and the deluge of games coming out this season makes me wary, I'll pick it up when it becomes cheaper. It's a great game but Mario (Kart, as well) and Zelda will be taking up a lot of my time.
This looks simply wonderful! or amazing.
Looks at least decent. The first batch of screenshots were horrible. Still, it's 40$/€ for a rather short game that's available for free on PC and for an appropriate price as DSi/Wii-download. And in the same time frame as Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart.
I can see a problem here.
Why the heck isn't this a 20$/€ eShop download? :-/
+1. I'm sorely tempted by this as I've only just got round to buying the WiiWare version and I love it, but full price is really putting me off.
Might wait for pre-owned / overstock discounts.
This video is the first time I've actually considered this as possibly worthwhile. I'm a huge fan of the Wiiware version (and PC version, but I think Wiiware is better). I just don't understand why they couldn't stick the original version on the cart. a bonus would have been if they could have done a 3d layer effect on the original.
I won't be getting this until it's in a bargain bin. It's too expensive for is basically a flashy looking version of a free game.
I should probably play at least one version of Cave Story.
I think I'll skip this one out for now. Looks very much like my cup of tea, but I already own CS on two different platforms, and SM3DL and Zelda will be coming out on that same month, so I need to conserve my $.
Already pre-ordered
Gonna have to ask for a review copy meself ^^ ... And if it doesn't succeed, well, I'll buy it with my vouchers ^^'
Passing up both the wiiware and dsiware version is finally paying off. Getting this one when it comes out.
$40 for a free computer game or a $10 DSi game? Releasing five days before Super Mario 3D Land? Cave Story is doomed.
A day after my birthday ! I'm so getting this. I've heard a lot of good things about Cave Story...and I need a retail game for my 3DS XD.
@Yogsoggoth
Not completely... there's still the crowd who has never heard of this game and want to pick up additional copies.
And before you say "Who HASN'T heard of this game??", the answer is: People who don't frequent gaming websites and most children not in highschool. ...which is still a large number.
played the original one on pc and bought the dsiware on the eshop...
sure this one looks damn fluid and fast. its all three dee and all but...
what more will it give ? is there any more content, new areas or modes ?
because i already did it 2 times on pc, 2 times on my 3ds...
i still want it as a 3ds version, but geez... 40 dollars spent on a remake again ?
Alright. As soon as I heard the music, I was sold. Yet ANOTHER game I have to get this November!
Looks great, but a graphical update is not really a reason for another price increase on a free game. They should really think about adding new areas, weapons, and bosses to their freemakes.
I think there is at least one new area called "Wind Fortress"
Meh, one of the reasons I loved the original game was because of the graphics. These polygon things do nothing for me D:
Looks awesome!
I don't think any other game in history had gotten a visual upgrade as quickly as CaveStory has. Yes, it's an amazing game, but how many times in the past couple years can they continue putting out the same game with only and improvement to the graphics. Plus, I agree with previous statements that the game is better enjoyed in its retro style. Give me the pixels!!!! (And a sequel, not another remake. *Sigh)
I recently played the Wiiware game, but I think I should consider getting this for my 3DS too. The music seems more touching too!
I love those new music tracks. I might just get it for that, in addition to not having a handheld version yet.
As much as I'd love a sequel, it would probably have a tough time meeting the expectations of the fans. Not to mention the first one seemed to wrap up its plot pretty tight in the true ending.
How did they eff up the music so much u_u
I figure that someone (Toys'R'Us, Amazon, Best Buy?) will do a buy 2, get 1 free sale. I'll wait until Mario Kart comes out and get it, Mario 3D, and Cave Story... (was going to be Tales or Shinobi, but since Tales isn't going to be out and Shinobi is looking less and less cool, Cave Story seems the best of the bunch).
Still surprising there are so many remakes on the system, from Zelda to Metal Gear and StarFox to Cave Story, they're cool games, but I'm looking forward to the new Mario games .
Oh God, that trailer was fantastic. I can't wait to get my hands on this next month!
I have the WiiWare version but I got stuck at what seems ridiculously early on! Otherwise I'd be PSYCHED.
Awesome. I've managed to skip all the remakes so far and it looks like it'll pay off. Never had time to even finish the original so I'll try to get this one. It is a little unfortunate to release it so close to mario. Nothing can compete with that.
The free version port on my PSP is all i need/want from this game. It's about time they worked on the next one.
I may have a problem with the backgrounds. In the original they were simple but in this version they seem too detailed and that may distract me from the game
"Alright. As soon as I heard the music, I was sold. Yet ANOTHER game I have to get this November!"
I thought I'd hate the new versions but I got goosebumps when I heard the theme tease.. I'm psyched! Looks great too, even in 2D.
@33. I agree. As much as I love Cave Story, it's time for a sequel. I've noticed every time someone suggests one, fans groan and say the story was all neatly tied up so there can't be one. Sure, yeah, it was but can there not be another story? I'm pretty sure the story is wrapped up at the end of most games. What makes Cave Story so different that it can never have a sequel? I'm excited for this new version (to a degree), but I hope this is the last time that they remake the same game. It's time for something new.
I have the DSiware version and Cave Story+. I think I'm all set on Cave Story for now. Especially since Cave Story+ will be getting "updates", so I expect at some point more new levels and modes.
EDIT: I forgot to mention: Cave Story+ has a new level, Wind Fortress. Sure folks remember hearing a beta soundtrack for it if they looked around. It's supposed to be a hard level with never before seen enemies. I wonder if it's in Cave Story 3D.
Never played Cave Story despite all the good things I have heard, now I am holding out until this comes out, already pre-orderd it along with Blazblue. I will get 3D Land later down the line as I want to play new games that I haven't experienced, this being one of them
I always liked the PC version... Always.
The story was great and the graphics were minimalistic!
But them, WiiWare version is a little broken and buggy, cause of the port.
But the 3DS one looks more well done, they are remaking all the stuff.
But, why not a sequel? It only releases remakes
meh.......I like the look of the original better.I agree with @Iz20XX about the backgrounds to , far too busy. Shame they didn't include the original though I would be tempted by a handheld version, pretty lame.
Ah well at least come Christmas I will have some good games for my 3DS (currently a very expensive portable NES!!).
and i thought the orignal music was amazing...
daaaa da daaa da daaaa duh duh duh da daa daaaa daaaaaaaaaa da da da daaaa daa da da da da da da dadadada dadadada
That looks a lot better than the preview in Nintendo Power all those months ago. I might pick this up after my Birthday or for Christmas.
I want that....
meh ill pick this up later i already pre-ordered Super mario 3d land and sonic generations for the 3ds. sooooo many good games comming out fall 2011 and early 2012..... DDDD:
If I decide to get this the music will be one of the main reasons.
This actually looks awesome now. Plus pixel mode eliminates those ugly character and item models while keeping the amazing new backgrounds.
I'm not gonna lie.
I hate how it looks, they should have gone with a WindWaker look
(aka cel-shaded graphics)
I really like the look of this.
Judging by this trailer, can't say I like the new look. Looks like typical generic WiiWare graphics. I'm sure it will look better with 3d but still not worth a full price purchase. I'll get it once it is 19.99. If that day doesn't come, I will still enjoy it in the original form or on the Wii. However, it is a real gem and should be experienced one way or the other. More games like Cave Story please!
Oooooooooooo!!
this game used to look like meh (pixels do it justice), but it looks a bit nicer now
